Chapter 114: Sorry, I’m the Oriole
"That scared me—thank goodness it didn’t get caught."
"Otherwise, we’d be the ones fighting that bastard who’s been dominating Raikou."
"If we failed, what face would I, Saurion, have left in front of Aria?"
"Brothers—stop watching. It’s our turn. If we wait any longer, Raikou will be caught by that hunter bastard!"
Saurion pulled out a Poké Ball and threw it. A Level 54 Quasi-Elite Four Tyranitar appeared.
"Too bad—looks like we’ll have to keep fighting."
Down in the valley, Rio watched Raikou burst out of the Poké Ball and sighed. But he wasn’t surprised—failing on the first throw was normal. Even ordinary Pokémon broke free sometimes, let alone a legendary. He wasn’t a one-ball wonder.
"Charizard, Gengar, Gyarados, Primeape—keep attacking!"
Just as he gave the command, a loud CRASH came from behind. Rio turned, his eyebrow lifting slightly. So the mantis has arrived.
A Tyranitar had appeared behind him—along with an Ursaring, a Steelix, a Gliscor, and a Lapras.
"Kid—with us here, you hunters aren’t catching Raikou!" Saurion jumped down from Tyranitar’s back. Four others dismounted from their Pokémon beside him.
"That’s right—we’ll make sure you hunters face the full force of the law!"
Their appearance startled the observing hunters, who had been watching from the sidelines.
"We’ve got a mole!" was most of their first reactions. They exchanged panicked glances, and the urge to flee crept in.
"Damn—this just got complicated." Hunter A gritted his teeth. At this point, it didn’t matter who the mole was—as long as H wasn’t one. If H were the mole, these people wouldn’t be trying to stop him. So he had to stand firmly with H.
But H had only been winning against Raikou because of numbers. These newcomers were clearly no pushovers—with them joining the fray, H would have a hard time keeping the advantage.
"Don’t panic—I’ve got this."
Rio raised his hand and pulled out another Poké Ball.
"Come out, Munchlax—I’ve saved these opponents just for you."
"Ka~" With a flash of light, Munchlax appeared before the Tyranitar, Ursaring, Steelix, Gliscor, and Lapras.
Its appearance created two separate one-against-many battles on the field. The first was Raikou, currently being overwhelmed by Mega Charizard X, Gengar, Red Gyarados, and Primeape. The second was Munchlax against the newcomers.
But Saurion was not pleased. "Kid—are you looking down on us?!" he snapped.
They’d come down to relieve Raikou’s pressure—to pull some of the four Pokémon away from the encirclement so Raikou could recover and counterattack. And this kid only sent out a single, adorable-looking Munchlax? Couldn’t he at least have diverted one of the other four? Did he really think one Munchlax could beat all five of them? Bastard—this is an insult!
"Tyranitar—Hyper Beam! Blast that Munchlax to oblivion! Show that kid what we’re made of!" Saurion roared.
"Tyr~" Tyranitar began charging energy in its mouth.
"Munchlax—Metronome." Rio replied calmly.
You may be the mantis—but sorry, I’m the oriole.
"Ka~" Munchlax raised its paws and began to wave them.
Rio turned his attention back to Raikou, which was struggling to fend off the attacks with Reflect, Thunder, and Zap Cannon. Its stance was starting to look like it was about to flee.
"Gengar—Mean Look!" Rio commanded.
Having come this far, he wasn’t about to let Raikou escape.
"Gengar~" Gengar’s eyes locked onto Raikou, and the legendary beast’s attempted retreat was halted.
Just then, Rio noticed something—the deafening thunderstorm had suddenly gone silent. The valley, now devoid of lightning, fell into darkness. The only sources of light were Charizard’s Sacred Fire—and something else.
A new illumination appeared. Munchlax, having entered its divine state, floated in the air, and a golden sphere began to form above its head.
The appearance of this golden sphere sent a wave of tension through every Pokémon on the field. The fighting momentarily stopped. Charizard, Gyarados, Gengar, Primeape, Raikou—all turned to look. Raikou’s expression was one of utter shock.
Even Tyranitar, which had been about to unleash its Hyper Beam, held back, too afraid to fire.
"What’s happening?! What move did that Munchlax just roll?!" Saurion looked like he’d seen a ghost. He’d never seen a move cause a scene like this.
"No way—did Munchlax just roll that legendary’s move?" Rio’s pupils contracted.
