Chapter 110: Raikou’s Power

Hunter A burst out of his tent and shouted to the group. But there was no need—everyone was already running toward the ambush point where the Electric-type Pokémon were being held. Rio also recalled Froakie, which had been in the middle of training, and sprinted over.

Within moments, they reached the ambush site. The thunderstorm had intensified dramatically after that earth-shaking roar. The hunters crouched in the concealing bushes for about ten seconds before a blinding white light descended from the sky, illuminating the entire valley. It turned everyone’s faces pale and forced them to shut their eyes.

"BOOM!"

A deafening peal of thunder followed, rattling everyone’s eardrums. As the thunder faded, they opened their eyes—and saw a yellow, saber-toothed tiger-like Pokémon with black lightning-stripe markings, faintly illuminated by the cascading bolts of lightning.

"Majestic," Rio murmured from his hiding spot, admiring its fierce countenance and imposing form.

At the same time, he caught a glimpse of Raikou’s stats.

The next moment, the dark purple thundercloud cape on Raikou’s back flickered—and a bolt of lightning erupted from it, striking toward the cages holding the Electric-type Pokémon. But just as the lightning was about to hit the cages, it was suddenly diverted, as if drawn by magnetism, and absorbed by a crystal ball stuck in the ground nearby.

Hunter A leaped to his feet, shouting excitedly: "Hahaha! Go, everyone—that’s the Energy Crystal developed by our organization! It can absorb all of Raikou’s Electric-type moves, turning it into a sitting duck!"

He had secretly placed the crystal ball there earlier. It was given to him by the hunter organization’s R&D department when he took on the Raikou hunting mission. The scientists had told him it was a powerful tool against Electric-type Pokémon—though they weren’t sure if it would work on Raikou, but it was worth a try. He hadn’t mentioned it earlier in case it failed, but now it looked like it worked perfectly.

"A—you had something this good and didn’t tell us? I’ve been nervous the whole trip!"

"In that case, this mission is in the bag! Let’s go, everyone!"

"Damn—if all of Raikou’s Electric moves are useless, what’s there to be afraid of? Move aside and let me handle this solo!"

Hearing Hunter A’s announcement, the hunters’ confidence soared. They eagerly threw out their Poké Balls. Hunter B was the fastest, releasing a Level 56 Heracross and commanding it to charge at Raikou.

"Damn—that bastard had this all along and didn’t say a word," Rio cursed under his breath. If I’d known Hunter A had this thing, I’d have taken them all out this morning and fought Raikou myself.

He reached for Charizard’s Poké Ball, ready to turn on them the moment Raikou was weakened.

Just then, Raikou fired a Zap Cannon—one of the strongest Electric-type moves—from its mouth. The blast was immediately sucked into the so-called Energy Crystal.

"Give up, Raikou! You can’t fight against human technology—hahaha!" Hunter A laughed, releasing his own Pokémon—a Level 60 Golem.

But his laughter lasted less than two seconds. The Energy Crystal, unable to absorb the overwhelming electrical energy in such a short time, exploded with a loud BANG, smoke curling from the wreckage. Hunter A’s grin froze on his face.

The one whose confidence shattered the most wasn’t Hunter A—it was Hunter B, who had been leading the charge with Heracross. He had just reached Raikou with a Megahorn when a Thunderbolt struck Heracross dead-on.

One hit. Just one hit. Heracross collapsed before even touching Raikou, the air thick with the smell of charred flesh.

The once-triumphant hunters froze in place.

Raikou stood over the smoldering Heracross, looking down at the hunters as if to say: Surprise, surprise—aren’t I terrifying?

"ROAR!!!"

Its deafening roar echoed across the valley. Every hunter’s Pokémon cowered in fear, lowering their heads in submission.

The name Raikou was truly worthy of its legend.
