Chapter 106: Everyone Has Nightmares

Back in his room, Rio was resting on the bed when Haunter emerged. He grinned and said: "Look into my eyes."

Haunter floated up to Rio’s face. The two locked eyes—and the next second, Rio closed his eyes and began receiving everything Haunter had just witnessed through his dreams.

Moments later, Rio’s expression started to shift. First, he started swallowing. His face visibly flushed. Drool began to drip uncontrollably from the corner of his mouth—anticipation oozing from every pore.

Then, the anticipation vanished, replaced by fury. His teeth bared in a grimace as if he’d just seen his mortal enemy.

"Hunter E, you absolute bastard—you had to show up right at that moment?!" he muttered in his sleep.

Haunter felt immense satisfaction—finally, someone shared its frustration.

Then Rio’s expression softened again, swallowing eagerly in renewed anticipation. But that lasted only two seconds before his teeth started grinding audibly.

"Hunter F—I’m going to chop off both your and Hunter E’s knocking hands!" he growled in his sleep once more.

Then his face fell into disappointment and gloom—likely when the dream reached the part where Haunter returned to the bathroom and saw Hunter J pull out a phone while wrapped in a towel. After that came a long stretch of deadpan emptiness.

Just as the emptiness subsided, Rio’s lips curled upward again in expectation—which lasted all of two seconds before turning into exasperation.

A moment later, Rio opened his eyes. His first words were: "I’m going to chop off Hunter E and Hunter F’s hands. Knock, knock, knock—why don’t you knock yourselves out? Two horny bastards knocking on a woman’s door in the middle of the night—who doesn’t know what you’re after? You don’t even deserve to—"

Haunter nodded in full agreement. Well said. Those two have no shame—disturbing a lady at night. Absolutely despicable. If Gus were still here, he’d look down on them, then dress up sharp and knock on the door himself.

"You’re right. Wait here—I’ll go chop their hands off right now." Haunter turned to phase through the wall.

"Wait, wait—you’re actually going to cut them off?!" Rio quickly called out just as Haunter was about to disappear. "If you do that, I’ll be the prime suspect."

"Then can you swallow this insult?" Haunter asked.

No—swallowing this would make me no better than a doormat. Rio thought for a moment, then said: "For now, let’s just give them nightmares—scare them so bad they lose control of their bowels."

"Perfect—that was my original plan. I’ll make them experience the ultimate nightmare right now." Haunter phased through the wall.

It returned half an hour later.

"How did it go? Why did it take so long?" Rio asked.

"Just wait until we meet up later tonight—you’ll see," Haunter said with a mischievous grin.

Time passed, and soon it was 1 AM. All the hunters gathered in the villa’s main hall—including Hunter C, now with a bandaged hand, accompanied by a Wigglytuff with healing moves.

But the most unbearable thing was the stench—most of the hunters reeked. Rio had expected only Hunters E and F to smell, but aside from him and Hunter J, everyone seemed to have soiled themselves and not washed properly.

So Haunter got to all of them. Now Rio understood why it had taken so long.

Just then, Rio noticed Hunter A inching closer—probably trying to sniff if he also smelled.

"You had nightmares too?" Rio quickly deflected with a question.

The moment he said that, Hunter A stopped in his tracks, surprised: "You had them too?"

"You had them too?!" The other hunters perked up, as if finding camaraderie.

They began describing their nightmares in vivid detail, each more horrific than the last, each insisting their own was the worst. The most absurd part? Even Hunter J was fabricating a nightmare, and it sounded genuinely terrifying.

Good reflexes, Rio couldn’t help but praise her internally.

The hunters complained for nearly half an hour before Hunter A finally remembered they had a mission: "Alright, enough—if we keep talking, the sun will come up and we’ll miss our window."

"The vehicles are outside. You’ll ride in pairs—you can choose your partner. We’ll operate in those same pairs at the destination."

As soon as he mentioned pairing up, every hunter turned to look at Hunter J. Even with masks on, Rio could bet they were all wearing lecherous grins. Even Hunter A puffed out his chest.

"I’ll pair up with H," Hunter J said, moving closer to Rio.

Rio was met with a wave of jealous glares.

"Sorry, everyone," Rio said with a smirk.

He wasn’t surprised Hunter J chose him. In the dream, he’d overheard her conversation with Saurion—she planned to get close to him, make him an enemy of the other hunters. Her reason? She’d sensed his strength during the day and saw him as a major threat to her Raikou capture plan. So she wanted to isolate him and turn the hunters against him.

Not that it mattered—he was already on bad terms with them anyway.
