Chapter 147: The Second Core
The blue blade froze in midair.
Seraph stared at the translucent interface floating beside Yelena.
It was identical to Halo.
The same glowing symbols.
The same rotating rings of light.
The only difference was its color.
Where Halo radiated sapphire blue, this one shimmered with silver.
The Architect’s expression darkened.
"No..."
His calm demeanor cracked for the first time.
"It awakened."
Yelena looked around in confusion.
"I... don’t understand."
She pressed a hand against her abdomen.
The wound was gone.
Not even a scar remained.
The silver interface pulsed once.
A gentle feminine voice echoed through the ruined archives.
[Greetings, Host.]
Yelena jumped.
"Who’s there?"
[World Core designation: Astra.]
[Dormant state terminated.]
Halo immediately spoke.
[Astra... You’re alive.]
The silver interface brightened.
[Halo. It has been a long time.]
Seraph frowned.
"You know each other too?"
Halo answered without hesitation.
[We were created together.]
[We are two of the Seven World Cores.]
The Architect’s killing intent exploded.
"Enough."
The portal expanded violently.
Black lightning surged from its depths.
"You should have remained asleep."
Thousands of black chains erupted from the darkness.
Unlike before, they weren’t aimed at Seraph.
Every single one targeted Yelena.
"Astra!" Halo shouted.
[Protect your Host!]
The silver interface released a brilliant wave of light.
A translucent dome formed around Yelena.
The chains slammed against it.
BOOM!
The entire archive collapsed.
Stone rained from the ceiling.
Elder Song quickly formed a barrier around the surviving disciples.
"Everyone, retreat!"
The remaining assassins obeyed no such command.
They charged together.
Twenty blades flashed at once.
Seraph inhaled sharply.
Synchrony surged once more.
Blue lightning wrapped around his body.
He disappeared.
The first assassin never saw him move.
A single punch shattered the man’s spiritual armor.
The second swung a spear.
Seraph caught it with his bare hand.
The weapon snapped like dry wood.
He spun, kicking the attacker into three others.
Bodies crashed across the burning archives.
No wasted movement.
No hesitation.
Every strike ended a battle.
Elder Song watched in stunned silence.
"His control..."
"It’s improving even while he’s fighting."
Halo’s voice echoed inside Seraph’s mind.
[Your Synchrony is evolving.]
"I can feel it."
[No.]
[You’re becoming Synchrony.]
Seraph didn’t understand.
There wasn’t time to ask.
The Architect finally moved.
For the first time...
He stepped through the portal.
Only one foot.
Yet the pressure was enough to split the mountain beneath Soul Cross Sect.
The earth shook violently.
Across the sect, disciples lost their footing.
Several distant peaks crumbled.
Sect Master Aldric appeared high above the battlefield.
His expression immediately changed.
"What..."
He had lived for nearly eight hundred years.
Never...
Not once...
Had he encountered such overwhelming pressure.
The Architect glanced toward him.
"Another insect."
With a casual wave of his hand...
Sect Master Aldric was blasted through three mountain peaks.
The old master’s aura instantly weakened.
Elder Song’s face turned pale.
"The Sect Master..."
"He lost..."
"In one move..."
Seraph clenched his fists.
This wasn’t someone they could defeat.
Not today.
Halo spoke calmly.
[Remember the portal.]
"I know."
[Defeat isn’t required.]
[Survival is.]
Meanwhile, Astra addressed Yelena.
[Host.]
"Yes?"
[Your memories are returning.]
Images flooded Yelena’s mind.
She remembered everything.
Her childhood.
Her family.
The day the Reapers attacked.
The experiments.
Years of brainwashing.
Every mission she had carried out.
Every innocent life she had taken.
She collapsed to her knees.
"No..."
Tears streamed down her face.
"What have I done..."
Seraph immediately reached her.
"You weren’t yourself."
"I killed people..."
"They forced you."
"I still killed them."
She covered her face.
"I don’t deserve to come home."
Seraph gently pulled her into a hug.
"You’ve always had one."
She broke down completely.
For years she had forgotten how to cry.
Now she couldn’t stop.
The Architect watched without emotion.
"Pointless."
"Emotions weaken judgment."
Seraph slowly looked up.
"No."
"They remind us why we fight."
The Architect raised another hand.
"This conversation has ended."
Dark energy gathered above his palm.
It condensed into a sphere no larger than an apple.
Yet Halo’s voice became frantic.
[MOVE!]
[That attack will erase everything within ten kilometers!]
Seraph’s eyes widened.
Ten kilometers?
Soul Cross Sect...
The nearby villages...
Everyone would die.
The Architect smiled faintly.
"This world has no further use."
He released the sphere.
It drifted downward.
Slowly.
Silently.
As though it weighed nothing.
But the space around it cracked apart.
Reality itself seemed unable to contain its power.
Halo calculated rapidly.
[Impact in twelve seconds.]
[Probability of survival: zero percent.]
Astra suddenly spoke.
[Negative.]
Everyone turned toward the silver interface.
Its light intensified until it rivaled the sun.
[Initiating Dual Core Resonance.]
Halo froze.
[Astra... don’t.]
[You know the cost.]
Astra remained silent.
The blue and silver interfaces slowly rotated toward each other.
Golden lines connected them.
The entire world seemed to hold its breath.
The Architect’s eyes narrowed.
"...Impossible."
"You shouldn’t be capable of that anymore."
Halo’s voice grew heavy.
"Seraph."
"Listen carefully."
"This choice..."
"...will change your destiny forever."
Before Seraph could ask what Halo meant, both World Cores spoke in perfect unison.
[Authorization Accepted.]
[Beginning Fusion Sequence.]
The world stopped, not figuratively, literally.
The falling sphere of destruction froze halfway through its descent.
The raging flames around the archives no longer danced.
Dust hung motionless in the air.
Even the screams outside Soul Cross Sect disappeared.
Everything had become still.
Except Seraph.
"What..."
His voice echoed through the silent world.
Halo answered immediately.
[Time has not stopped.]
[We have stepped outside it.]
The Architect’s golden eyes narrowed.
"So you’ve chosen this path."
The blue and silver interfaces continued rotating around Seraph and Yelena.
Threads of light stretched from Halo to Astra, weaving together like countless stars.
Then another notification appeared.
[Dual Core Resonance: 17%]
Yelena looked at the glowing symbols surrounding her.
"I don’t understand any of this."
"You don’t have to," Seraph replied, stepping in front of her. "Just stay behind me."
She smiled weakly.
"Still trying to protect your big sister?"
"I always will."
Her eyes reddened.
For years she had believed those memories were dreams.
Now they stood before her, alive.
The Architect sighed.
"I gave you both purpose."
"You gave us chains," Seraph answered.
"I gave you survival."
"You stole our freedom."
The Architect slowly descended from the portal.
With each step, cracks spread beneath his feet.
"This world survives because of us."
"It survives despite you."
The Architect smiled.
"Then allow me to educate you."
He raised one finger.
Nothing flashy happened.
No explosion.
No beam of light.
Yet Seraph’s instincts screamed.
He threw himself sideways.
A line appeared where he had been standing.
Perfectly straight.
Perfectly black.
Half the archive...
Disappeared.
Not destroyed.
Not shattered.
Erased.
The stone.
The air.
Even the spiritual energy.
Gone.
Seraph’s breathing became uneven.
"What kind of technique was that?"
Halo’s answer was immediate.
[Concept Erasure.]
[He deleted that space from existence.]
Cold sweat ran down Seraph’s back.
If that attack had touched him...
There would’ve been nothing left to heal.
The Architect looked disappointed.
"You dodged."
"I’ll try harder next time."
Seraph grinned despite the danger.
The Architect’s eyes sharpened.
"You’re smiling?"
"You talk too much."
Before another word could be spoken, Seraph vanished.
Synchrony exploded.
His body blurred into a streak of blue lightning.
He appeared directly before the Architect.
His soul blade descended.
The Architect raised two fingers.
Clang!
The blade stopped.
Held effortlessly.
"You’ve improved."
"But not enough."
He flicked the blade aside.
Seraph was sent spinning across the battlefield.
He landed, pushed off the ground again, and attacked from another angle.
Punch.
Kick.
Blade.
Palm.
Every movement flowed into the next.
There wasn’t a wasted breath.
The Architect blocked them all.
Not with effort.
With boredom.
"Predictable."
Seraph suddenly smiled.
"I wasn’t trying to hit you."
The Architect frowned.
"What?"
Halo’s voice rang out.
[Now!]
The Architect looked down.
Dozens of tiny formation marks glowed beneath his feet.
Hidden during Seraph’s relentless attacks.
His expression changed.
"A trap."
The formation activated.
Chains of blue light erupted from the ground, wrapping around the Architect’s legs and arms.
The mountain shook.
The portal flickered violently.
Elder Song stared in disbelief.
"He was buying time..."
"Not attacking."
Seraph wiped the blood from his mouth.
"I learned a long time ago."
"If I can’t overpower someone..."
"I outthink them."
The restraints tightened.
For the first time...
The Architect stopped smiling.
"You’ve inherited your predecessor’s bad habits."
Halo laughed.
[He gets that from Earth.]
The restraints cracked.
Then shattered.
The Architect stepped free.
"So much effort."
"So little result."
He disappeared.
Seraph barely sensed the movement before a fist struck his chest.
CRACK!
His ribs broke instantly.
He was launched high into the sky.
Blood scattered behind him.
The Architect appeared above him.
Then below him.
Then beside him.
Each strike came faster than the last.
Seraph couldn’t react.
His body became a ragdoll.
Bones snapped.
His vision blurred.
Finally...
The Architect grabbed him by the throat.
"You possess courage."
"But courage cannot replace power."
He squeezed.
Seraph struggled for breath.
Far below, Yelena’s eyes widened.
"SERAPH!"
Without thinking, she ran.
Astra appeared before her.
[Host.]
"You must stop him!"
[You cannot.]
"I have to!"
The silver interface remained silent.
Then...
[There is one method.]
"What is it?"
[Complete synchronization.]
Halo immediately objected.
[No.]
[Her body isn’t ready.]
Astra answered calmly.
[Neither is his.]
Yelena looked between the two World Cores.
"I don’t care."
"If it saves him..."
"I’ll do it."
The silver interface brightened.
[Host approval confirmed.]
Seraph looked down through fading vision.
"No..."
He tried to speak.
No sound came out.
The Architect tightened his grip.
"You’ve already lost."
Yelena closed her eyes.
"I refuse."
Silver light erupted around her.
Her hair floated into the air.
The pendant she had carved as a little girl began glowing.
The wooden carving split open.
Inside...
A tiny silver crystal floated upward.
Halo gasped.
[The Memory Crystal...]
The Architect’s calm expression vanished.
"It survived?"
The crystal dissolved into countless particles of light.
Every fragment entered Yelena’s body.
Her spiritual pressure exploded.
Mountains trembled.
The sky split apart.
Above Soul Cross Sect, a second aurora bloomed beside Seraph’s blue lightning.
Blue.
Silver.
Slowly intertwining.
Halo’s voice became almost reverent.
"It wasn’t hidden..."
"It was waiting."
The Dual Core Resonance jumped rapidly.
[41%...]
[58%...]
[73%...]
The Architect released Seraph immediately.
His expression had become colder than ever.
"If the resonance reaches completion..."
He raised both hands.
"This world dies today."
Above him...
Seven enormous portals began opening across the sky.
Each portal contained a pair of ancient golden eyes.
Seven different voices echoed together.
"We have answered your summons."
Every cultivator across the continent looked upward in horror.
Halo’s voice became quieter than Seraph had ever heard.
"...The other Architects have arrived."
