Chapter 1129: Chapter 367: Turns Out She’s a Crazy Woman Looking for an Ex-Lover (Part 3)
"They’re not my people."
After saying this, Ote logged out of Lin Miao’s computer.
???
As expected, the moment Lin Miao agreed to cooperate with her, V and Jack were immediately abandoned by Outkanning, and the hotel’s security firepower increased by more than just a notch. The three were dodging frantically, unable to even lift their heads.
"wociao."
Lin Miao was surprised at how quickly that woman could change her stance and realized what methods Ote used to influence hotel security. In an age where everyone has a pair of electronic eyes, it’s ridiculously easy for AI to tweak retinal signals and divert attention.
"Delaman!"
Boom boom!
A six-wheeled armored vehicle blasted through the hotel’s walls with a rocket, then crashed right in, charging through heavy fire and skidding to a halt next to Jack, popping open the passenger door.
The strange blue holographic head on the console said,
"Delaman Auto Service Corporation is pleased to serve you."
"Damn, seeing you makes me feel safer!" Jack said, elated, using the armored car door as cover, shooting back.
"V, Brother Ni, over here! Get in the car, quick!"
V, the last to get in, was drenched in red and white blood from head to toe, sweating profusely.
"Damn! Old Del, since when did you start driving these? Impressive."
"We’ve partnered with Horizon Corporation for a new armed escort service. If you’re interested in opening a membership with us, your first ride is at a 20% discount."
"How much?"
"20 Orokin per kilometer."
"Why don’t you just rob me instead? I can’t afford that, farewell."
"This service is not yet available."
The three who narrowly escaped caught their breath in the car, as Delaman demonstrated remarkable driving skills. The entire Night City traffic network was deeply embedded in the AI map with all roads, traffic lights, and traffic flow calculated. Not even Huang Ban’s convoy could keep up, let alone the drones chasing them.
————
"Mr. Lin, the three of them are temporarily out of danger, but I don’t advise them to show up in the city for a while, so I’ve taken them out of Night City."
The screen in front of Lin Miao had switched from Ote to Delaman’s holographic head. No matter how many times they saw it, Lin Miao always felt sorry for Delaman’s aesthetics.
"Just now, Miss Lucy’s battle with that AI was thrilling. Our company’s servers almost got fried."
"Alright, how much, I’ll pay."
"No need to bother Mr. Lin, just a small favor we need your help with."
"Don’t be so polite, our management system is modeled after yours. I wouldn’t have been able to grow my company this big without your help. Just tell me what’s up."
Delaman was the first AI Lin Miao seriously interacted with and remains one of the few that operates independently of human enterprises yet coexists peacefully. Unmanned management has greatly aided Lin Miao.
Their relationship had always been good.
Delaman said,
"There are some bugs in my AI core during computation. The subprograms that separated are strongly resistant during computational iterations, so I’d like Miss Lucy to take a look at where the issue lies."
"Subprograms?"
Lin Miao frowned.
"Yes, for us AI, predicting human emotions is a necessary step in the evolution process. Only then can we achieve true independent consciousness and not remain as mere data."
AI are not humans. They don’t have brains and aren’t influenced by various hormones like dopamine, oxytocin, testosterone, etc. Newly born AI are equivalent to deeply castrated humans, with no desires and no competition.
To gain true randomness, they inevitably get contaminated with human emotions during deep learning and, through constant simulation, these emotional data shape their personalities.
Lin Miao asked him to send over information about the subprograms, and as soon as he glanced at it, he spat out the water he just drank.
"Damn, what kind of subprograms are these?"
To describe Delaman’s subprograms in minimal terms:
Extreme rage, deconstructivism, drug-induced hallucinations, depressive loneliness, self-destructive tendencies, fear.
Damn, why are they all neurotic crap? Can’t any of them act human?
"Mr. Lin, is there an issue? These are all subprogram entities I’ve derived based on the real-time behaviors of passengers over the years."
Delaman was puzzled.
But Lin Miao understood.
"Alright, it seems this damned city can’t provide you with any normal emotional samples, no wonder they’re all crazy."
"Yet the big data collected in Night City indicates humans are like this. It’s improved a bit in recent months but still far behind on the sample data."
After hesitating for a moment, Lin Miao said,
"To be human, you need to consume both malice and kindness; only then can you be considered whole."
He kind of understood why Outkanning put so much effort into getting Johnny Silverhand’s imprint.
"Write a few more blank subprograms, and I’ll arrange a few targets for them to learn from, to understand what pure and beautiful love and brave and fearless justice are. Otherwise, your ’sons’ might end up backstabbing you. I don’t want the Old Del I know to turn into someone else."
(The original script raises so many questions, including TBUG’s death and why Huang Ban Lai Xuan and Sanlang’s security team did not respond at all (I suspect it wasn’t Huang Ban’s hackers who did the killing but Ote, just to implant the chip into V’s head, using this as leverage to force her into Oracle). Dexter saw Huang Ban Sanlang die, knew it was V, and that the Huang Ban squad could show up at any time, yet he didn’t run, instead waiting for V to return just to betray them. After betraying, he didn’t even take the chip when he ran. Even that didn’t end well as he got caught and killed in the city, and he’s been in Night City for just the first time... His tool attributes are ridiculously strong.)
The entire heist plan reeks of conspiracy at every step from top to bottom.)
