Chapter 1861: Chapter 1858: Shadows That Won’t Disperse (2)

Xia Weibao glanced behind her. At this hour, there were still quite a lot of cars on the highway.

Everything looked perfectly normal, nothing out of the ordinary.

She withdrew her gaze, her mind vaguely ill at ease.

"What’s wrong?" asked Lu Hualiang, who was driving.

"I feel like someone’s tailing us, but it might just be my imagination."

Lu Hualiang’s lips quirked. "It’s not your imagination."

As soon as he finished speaking, he turned the steering wheel and the car suddenly pulled into the side lane.

There were lots of cars on the road. Relying on his excellent driving skills, Lu Hualiang slipped through every gap, the car moving like a ghost, coming and going like the wind.

After a few turns, he successfully shook off the people following them.

He took out his phone, typed a text while driving, and sent it out. Someone would handle it.

"Who was following us?" Xia Weibao felt a bit regretful.

How did we just shake them off like that? We should’ve found some deserted place and exercised our right to self‑defense.

Alas, she was a lady. She didn’t even dare bring up such a great suggestion.

Lu Hualiang set the phone aside, freed a hand to rub her soft hair. "Could be people from the Southern Group, could be the Yang family. Don’t worry, it’s fine."

Today he’d rearranged the entire security system of the imperial city again. If anyone made a move there, they would never escape his eyes!

After the two of them finished eating, they didn’t rush back, but went for a walk along the river.

In summer the river breeze was very cool. Lots of people liked to stroll here, especially couples.

The evening wind blew, cool and very comfortable.

Xia Weibao stood by the river, leaning over the guardrail, butt stuck out, totally casual.

Just as she was enjoying the comfort of the cool wind, a warm chest pressed up against her back.

Xia Weibao, "..."

She twisted unhappily. It was late at night, and there was no air‑con outside; hugging like this was really hot, okay.

But Lu Hualiang ignored her, pressing in even closer, fitting her small frame completely into his arms.

"Aren’t you hot?"

Lu Hualiang lowered his head and kissed her ear. "Honey, are you feeling very hot? Want to go back and let me help you cool down?"

Her Majesty the Empress did not wish to speak. This "hot" is not that "hot", okay!

She was just about to tell him to ease up a bit and not hold her so tight when she suddenly sensed a sharp gaze sweep across her body.

Xia Weibao’s expression changed. She whipped her head around, looking toward the direction that gaze had come from.

However, over there, aside from a pair of little lovers sneaking kisses in the dark, there was nothing.

"What is it?" Lu Hualiang asked.

"Hubby, did you just feel like someone was watching us?"

Lu Hualiang followed her line of sight and glanced over, pondering for a second. "Didn’t notice any gaze, but I did see a couple over there kissing. Honey, do you want to try it?"

Xia Weibao rolled her eyes at him. "Be serious."

"I really didn’t."

As soon as he finished, the face of the woman in his arms changed again. She shoved him away and took two steps forward.

"Weird, it’s gone again."

Lu Hualiang walked up to her. "You think someone’s following you?"

Xia Weibao nodded. That made no sense. That gaze had been so obvious she’d picked up on it. How could Lu Hualiang not have felt anything?

Or maybe that gaze was only aimed at her?

Just as she was puzzling over it, she saw Long Xuanye’s figure suddenly step out from the darkness.

He was still dressed all in white, his eyes sinister as he emerged from the shadows, carrying a chilling aura.

Like a ghost that refused to disperse.

Xia Weibao was so startled she let out a scream and hurriedly ducked into Lu Hualiang’s arms.

"What’s wrong?" Lu Hualiang caught her and snapped his head around. There was nothing there but emptiness.

"What did you see?" he asked, frowning.

Xia Weibao’s face was a bit pale. She clutched his hand. "Hubby, let’s go home."
