Chapter 242: Chapter 203: Deeply Cultivating a Vertical Field, Launching a Differentiated Combination Punch (Part 2)
Finding a faction that would accept him and allow him to realize his ambitions was the optimal solution.
It makes no difference whether you’re herding one duck or a whole flock. Levi said nothing, simply nodding twice.
"Lord, I want to join High Cliff Castle too!"
Just as Leiden the Goblin finished his oath, an urgent voice called out from a distance.
A Pigman, about two sizes smaller than Panda, came running from the distance. He wore a grimy apron and was carrying a butcher knife.
This Pigman was none other than Tikli.
After this guy surrendered, the Lord had assigned him to work with the cooks.
Later, seeing he was quite strong, Mier assigned him to the logistics team to chop meat and cook.
After all, a group of scrawny Goat-men would struggle to chop a single bone.
"Haven’t you already joined High Cliff Castle?" Levi raised an eyebrow.
’Is this place a dumping ground? Why is everyone so eager to get in?’
Tikli wanted to say that he, like Gus, wanted to join as a member, a Warrior, not as a slave Auxiliary Soldier.
But seeing the Lord’s face clearly turn cold, he ultimately didn’t dare to say it.
"I have other arrangements for you. Don’t worry, High Cliff Castle won’t overlook anyone with talent. Now hurry up and go cook." The Lord patiently offered a few words of comfort.
As for what those arrangements were, only the Lord himself probably knew.
In the end, Tikli could only leave helplessly. Leiden left at the same time.
Gus’s joining didn’t cause much of a stir in the Thorn Corps. After all, the Centaur Leader had only had a brief encounter with the cavalry squad led by Si Kai. In fact, most of the soldiers had never even seen this Centaur Leader.
However, the few Elves who had been rescued back in Shadow Forest were extremely dissatisfied with this outcome, and their attitude toward the Lord grew even colder.
Levi didn’t care. To be honest, if it weren’t for the fact that one of the Elves looked very much like a woman, leaving a faint impression on him, he would have forgotten about them long ago.
This season, the weather in the Wilderness grew more bone-chillingly cold by the day. The blizzard, which had just recently stopped, had started howling again.
Fu Jin, a Senior Priest from the Ice and Snow Church, said that this year’s winter would definitely be longer and colder than previous years, because the first snow had arrived too early and under somewhat bizarre circumstances. This statement was met with agreement from Fujero.
But whether it was cold or not depended on who you were. The Lord, wearing only a suit of Leather Armor, still had a ruddy complexion. Meanwhile, Fu Jin, the Ice and Snow Priest next to him, had no choice but to don a thick cloak. After all, cultivating the Ice and Snow Divine Technique only made him more adaptable to the cold, not completely immune to it.
As for Levi, not only could his current physique basically render him immune to heat and cold, but he had also discovered that cultivating the Glowing Holy Word Treasure Manual not only increased his Elemental Resistance but also improved his adaptation to hot and cold environments. That was why everyone else was now wrapped in thick cloaks to ward off the wind and snow, while the Lord alone was dressed lightly, cutting a rather masterful figure.
This left the others secretly amazed. They had spent most of the journey cursing this year’s winter for being too cold and unbearable.
Yet this Lion Hunter Knight seemed to be experiencing summer.
On this snowy night, all the soldiers of the Thorn Corps, clad in their Armor, slept leaning against the braziers in their tents, trying to recover their strength in a short time.
Yet, the highest-ranking officers were gathered in one tent, yawning constantly as they discussed the specific arrangements.
"We’re about thirty ounces away from the Wilderness Alliance Camp. If we stick to the time we agreed upon with the Goblin, we can set out in a little while."
Fujero said, his hands braced on the simple wooden table as he laid out the schedule.
An ounce was a unit of time in this world, specifically derived from the time it took for one ounce of fine sand to pass through an hourglass.
In his previous life’s terms, one ounce was about two minutes.
Levi knew a bit about this kind of basic general knowledge.
Ideally, a late-night attack would be best. But considering the fierce battle they had just fought tonight, the Warriors were exhausted. Moreover, the enemy would obviously be wary of them pressing their advantage.
So, they postponed the attack to around six in the morning. For the Wilderness People who had been on high alert all night, this was absolutely the point of greatest fatigue. Plus, the sky would be starting to lighten.
There was no need to worry about whether the soldiers could adapt to a nighttime charge.
"For this surprise attack, Lord, please rest and let me handle it. I have already relied on your rescue many times during this period, which frankly makes me feel rather ashamed."
Fujero said earnestly.
It wasn’t that he was afraid Lord Li would steal his military achievements. The two of them weren’t in the same system; as long as this war was won, he would get his share of the credit.
The main issue was that this war was supposed to belong to the Thorn Corps, yet every battle had been won only by relying on the Lord. No matter how thick-skinned he was, he couldn’t just stand by and watch the Lord single-handedly win the entire war.
"Suit yourself." Levi waved his hand dismissively.
Since Fujero wanted to end this war personally, he was happy to have some leisure time.
Anyway, the contributions he had already made were more than enough to demand a handsome reward from Fulina.
As for fame and the like, even if he did nothing, Fulina would be sure to publicize him as the "Lion Hunter Knight" to support her southern campaign.
"Thank you, everyone. This meeting is now adjourned."
Fujero stood up and declared the meeting over. The others also rose, preparing to leave.
"Ngh... huh?"
Levi kicked Panda, who was sleeping like a log. The Panda Person scrambled to his feet, knocking over the specially made chair beneath him, and wiped his mouth with a dazed look on his face.
As soon as this guy had entered and heard Fujero’s long-winded speech, he had passed out completely, his drool soaking a patch of the black and white fur on his face.
"So, did you get all that?"
The two walked out of the tent together, and Levi asked with a smile.
"Ahem, I accidentally fell asleep. By the time I woke up, it was all over." Panda scratched his head, looking embarrassed.
He had never been interested in that sort of thing. The moment he heard it, he would feel drowsy and fall into a deep, sweet sleep.
"It’s just the usual stuff. Just stick with Si Kai later, he’ll fill you in on the other details."
"Lord, what about you?" Panda asked, sensing there was more to it.
"Me? I’m going to rest a bit and watch the show, of course." Levi said with his hands behind his head, looking completely relaxed.
"Alright then." Panda sounded a little regretful.
To be honest, charging alongside the Lord was a truly ultimate experience, one he was eager to repeat.
Not being able to fight with him left Panda a bit disappointed.
When the soldiers were woken up by one another, they couldn’t help but yawn, their faces still showing traces of sleepiness.
But after lifting the tent flaps and stepping outside, they immediately shivered, and all drowsiness was blown away by the cold north wind.
The fully equipped Thorn Corps began to march toward their destination, guided by the pre-dawn light that was just barely enough to see by.
They were silent, like warriors from ancient times, marching through the wind and snow with the assurance of victory.
The location of the Wilderness People’s camp had been scouted out long ago. The initial part of the journey went smoothly, and they didn’t encounter any enemy Scouts.
Once they were within the final ten li, they could no longer advance so brazenly. At this distance, the force was too large to conceal its movements.
Fujero personally selected fifteen hundred soldiers, including the Panda Warriors. Led by Fu Jin, six Ice and Snow Priests worked together, Casting Magic to conceal their tracks as they continued to advance.
The remaining soldiers of the Thorn Corps stayed behind, ready to provide timely support upon receiving the signal.
The Magic cast by the six Casters was just enough to accommodate a little over fifteen hundred people. Among them, Fujero and Levi were even able to ride their horses, slowly advancing with the troops.
As time passed, small, snow-covered mounds came into view, dotting the landscape. They were the hide tents of the Wilderness People.
Inside the camp, flickering torches provided a faint light.
The group advanced under the cover of darkness, hiding in an extremely concealed basin.
One li ahead was the Wilderness People’s camp.
