Chapter 239: Chapter 202: What a Handsome Sword Technique

"This is Lord Levi, the Lion Hunter Knight of the Northern Lands, a famous Warrior of great renown in Debei. If we’re talking purely about Martial Arts, I doubt anyone here could last more than a few rounds against him."

Fujero was laying it on thick, and he wasn’t holding back.

The Lord might have had some reputation in his own little corner of the Northern Lands, but across all of Debei, his name had only appeared on the desks of top nobles because he’d had the good fortune to escort a Duke’s heir with a claim to succession.

Hardly what one would call "great renown."

Leiden knew he had completely botched it, mistaking the identity of that terrifyingly powerful expert. Like a child grasping at the last straw, he scrambled to recover, "My Lord, then your Combat Qi Cultivation must be incredibly Profound."

In his mind, most powerful humans cultivated Combat Qi. It was the formidable technique they relied on to fight other Alien Races.

A human, whose physique couldn’t even compare to a Jackal Wolfman’s, could fight a Minotaur to a standstill just by relying on Combat Qi.

In Leiden’s view, the reason this Lion Hunter Knight was so powerful was inextricably linked to his advanced Combat Qi Cultivation.

’Therefore, praising the man’s greatest strength will surely produce an unexpectedly good result.’

"The fact that I don’t use Combat Qi must be a disappointment to a scumbag like you." The Lord’s expression grew darker, and he looked as if he could barely keep his hand off the Holy Sword at his waist.

From any angle, it seemed this Goblin was deliberately trying to get under his skin.

Levi didn’t know what the Goblin was plotting, but for now, his actions made it difficult to treat him with any sort of pleasantry.

"Th-this..."

Beads of sweat the size of soybeans broke out on Leiden’s forehead. Though it was the dead of winter, he felt a stifling heat all over.

His predicament didn’t last long before the Lord’s impatient voice cut him off. "State your purpose. If you’re here to sue for peace or negotiate terms, I’m afraid that head you’ve had for several decades is about to part ways with your body."

"My Lord, I didn’t come here for the Wilderness Alliance Army. I came for myself." Leiden wiped the sweat from his brow, his posture becoming even more deferential.

"You are as powerful as lions, while the Wilderness Alliance Army is as weak as a lamb. I have no wish to go down with that sinking ship, which is why I’ve risked coming here."

"You’re smart," Levi nodded.

"I have a subordinate force of several thousand within the Wilderness Alliance Army. If I were to coordinate with you, my Lords, from the inside, we could certainly crush the enemy with ease."

"It’s not that I underestimate you, my Lords, or anything of the sort. Your strength is beyond question. But to deal with this Alliance Army organized by the Zor Elves, you’ll inevitably suffer casualties. Working with an inside man, however, would allow you to minimize your losses."

At this, Leiden bowed respectfully. "And all I ask in return is that you spare my life, my Lord."

The expressions on everyone’s faces instantly became a sight to behold. Fujero frowned, wondering just how much of the Goblin’s story could be believed.

’To be honest, if we had someone on the inside, it really would keep the Thorn Corps’ casualties to a minimum.’

’But what if this is one of their ploys?’

"Why should I believe you?" Levi stared intently at the Goblin, his voice filled with doubt and mistrust. His gaze locked onto him, as if trying to bore through to the secrets in his heart.

"Besides, for all we know, your companions—who are about to become wandering ghosts—already know you’ve left," Levi continued, the sarcasm in his voice growing more apparent.

He was extremely wary of this Goblin, who was so different from the rest of his kind, and wouldn’t easily believe a single word he said.

Levi’s eyes never left the Goblin. He carefully observed his expression, his movements, and his subtle reactions, trying to find any trace of a lie or deception.

Countless thoughts flashed through his mind as he pondered the Goblin’s true purpose and underlying motives.

He wanted to know if this Goblin was truly what he claimed to be, or just a charlatan with ulterior motives.

"I am a Goblin, as lowly as dirt. No one will care about my departure, just as a lion never pays heed to an ant."

"I’m insignificant in this army. As for trust..."

Leiden trailed off, falling silent. "I am truly sorry. I have no way to make you believe the words of a Goblin. This is my desperate gamble!"

"I’m betting that no commander would pass up a chance to reduce his losses. Just as I cannot prove that what I say is true, you cannot prove that it is false."

"Even if there’s only a fifty-percent chance, it’s still worth a try."

Having said all this, Leiden faced their sharp, knife-like scrutiny with a sincere expression.

He had laid all his cards on the table.

Just as he said, Fujero wouldn’t pass up any opportunity to reduce his losses. The Thorn Corps was his foundation; the fewer casualties, the better for him.

’Although he suspected this Goblin might be playing a double agent, it was, in the end, just a suspicion.’

"I personally can’t stand this little scumbag, but speaking objectively, I think it’s worth a shot."

Levi was the first to state his opinion.

"My thoughts are the same as Lord Levi’s. Regardless of whether what he says is true, we can give it a try. If things look wrong, we can always retreat in time."

Fujero said thoughtfully, rubbing the Jade Ring on his thumb.
