Chapter 233: Chapter 199: The Lord’s Night Raid on the Wilderness Tribe
Grief washed over Si Kai as he watched his soldiers fall one by one. He glanced toward the Shadow Forest, but there was still no sign of movement.
He couldn’t for the life of him figure out what Fujero was up to. Based on the route, and with the markers he’d left in the Shadow Forest, it was impossible for Fujero to get lost. He should have arrived in half a day at most, yet there was still no word.
Honestly, he’d never imagined he would die here. He didn’t fear death in battle, but he absolutely refused to die in some nameless, insignificant place like this.
His dream was to die in a grand, epic battle, immortalized in the annals of history as a Knight who had slain countless foes with supreme valor.
’Speaking of which, what is Lord Li up to right now?’
For some reason, Si Kai found his thoughts drifting to Levi again. Perhaps he had grown numb from all the killing, letting his mind wander.
He had seen the huge, firework-like explosions during the day. If he wasn’t mistaken, only the Lord of High Cliff Castle could pull off something so utterly unconventional.
’Hm? What’s that?’
Suddenly, Si Kai’s gaze fixed on the distance, where a series of bloodcurdling screams had erupted.
In the distance, countless Wilderness People were sent flying into the air, wailing as if they had been struck by charging warhorses.
When he looked closer, Si Kai was stunned.
"Lord?"
There were no warhorses. There was only a fully armed Iron Canister charging headfirst in their direction. Whether it was Goblins, Pigmen, or even Minotaurs blocking his path, none could escape being violently sent flying.
They would crash heavily to the ground, howling in agony from broken bones.
Si Kai was intimately familiar with that suit of armor; after all, the two had only parted ways that morning. It was impossible not to recognize it. Only the Lord of High Cliff Castle possessed such a suit of gleaming black Iron Armor, complete with a red cape.
"Si Kai, I’m here to save you! Aren’t you touched?"
The figure charged incredibly fast, sending countless men flying in the blink of an eye and closing to within fifty paces. His roar cut through the cacophony of battle cries.
Si Kai was torn between being moved and wanting to laugh. He ended up roaring back, "Brothers, our reinforcements are here! Follow me to link up!"
’Then again, reinforcements of one still count as reinforcements, right?’
Shrouded in Combat Qi, he led a small squad and began to carve a path toward the Lord.
"Kill those two shorties!"
The Wilderness People had now spotted the two intruders, Levi and Heather, and swarmed them with furious roars.
"My Lord, what do we do?"
Heather, held tightly in the arms of the Iron Canister, couldn’t help but tremble as she watched the endless, red-eyed Wilderness Warriors closing in.
Don’t be mistaken; she was a Priest, and a single spell from her could casually annihilate nearly a hundred of these common soldiers. But that was her limit. Afterward, she would be struck by casting backlash, leaving her as vulnerable as an ordinary Zor Warrior. A single Minotaur could easily kill her.
In the past, as a Caster, she had always been protected at the very center of the formation, surrounded by countless guards. She had never been surrounded by enemies like this.
"’What do we do?’ They’re the ones who should be asking that."
Levi’s voice, muffled by his Face-covering Helmet, sounded deep and low, but Heather could still hear the undisguised disdain in his tone.
SWISH!
A Pigman roared, winding up and smashing its hammer down at him.
Facing such a mediocre opponent, the Lord couldn’t be bothered with any fancy moves. He met the attack with a single, simple thrust.
The burly Pigman Warrior clutched the fist-sized, bloody hole in its neck and fell backward in disbelief. Even as it died, its simple brain couldn’t comprehend how a Giant Sword—a blade nearly as tall as the shorty wielding it—could have pierced its neck so swiftly. All it had seen was a flash of silver...
Wielding just a single sword, Levi ensured no living thing could get within his Tri-Blade range.
Empowered by his immense strength, the swinging Giant Sword was like a speeding freight train. A mere graze was death; a solid hit meant annihilation.
"Lord, you’re here alone?"
The two groups quickly linked up, then immediately fought their way back. Once the front-line soldiers had plugged the gap, the two men stood behind the lines and chatted.
"If I had brought men, you’d have been in the cooking pot by the time I got here, with nothing but your ass floating in the soup."
The Lord, showing no tenderness for the fairer sex, unceremoniously tossed Heather to the ground. Meeting Si Kai’s questioning gaze, he explained casually, "A Zor Priest. Picked her up earlier today."
He said it so casually, but Si Kai could only manage a wry smile.
’Only the Lord of High Cliff Castle could say something like that so flippantly.’
It was common knowledge that in any army, Casters were second only to the commanding officer in terms of who required the most protection.
Just like Master Fu Jin, whom Si Kai had surrounded with guards in the very center of their formation—an instinct all soldiers shared.
After all, the importance of a Caster was self-evident. Not only were they crucial for the commander, but from the perspective of the common grunts, a Caster could also take a great deal of pressure off them in a fight.
Therefore, this Zor Priest must have been under heavy guard. The thought of capturing her alive from the midst of the tens-of-thousands-strong Wilderness Alliance Army was enough to make one’s skin crawl.
Heather brushed the dirt from her clothes and silently rose from the ground, her face an expressionless mask. She had been treated this roughly so many times that she was already used to it.
’Of course, this had absolutely nothing to do with this human’s terrifying strength.’
"Heather, start Casting. Aim for where their numbers are thickest. I don’t need to tell you that, do I?"
"As you wish, my *good* Lord," Heather said with a smile, putting a heavy emphasis on the word "good."
