Chapter 217: Chapter 188: Boss, I’m Too Eager to Progress (Part 2)
Back in the golden age of Holy Knights, a Blazing Sun Saint Knight was powerful enough to be considered an Epic Level expert, someone who could leave a profound mark on history. It was no injustice that this Centaur Leader lost.
"What was the problem?" Although somewhat surprised that this man was actually a Holy Knight of the Holy Light Church, Masha asked with curiosity.
She knew that the Holy Light Church was an organization on par with the Ice and Snow Church, and she had heard of the Holy Scripture they took such pride in.
So, she was naturally very curious about the problem that had prevented him from advancing to the Holy Hall rank.
The whistling mountain wind in the woods rustled every strand of hair on the figure before them. His slender back looked desolate, radiating the loneliness of a master.
"Haha, the problem is that I don’t have the cultivation method for what comes after the Firefly stage." The Lord turned his head and laughed heartily, revealing two rows of neat, white teeth.
The expectant looks on everyone’s faces soured instantly. For a moment, the silence was so profound you could hear a pin drop.
...
After the Centaur was dealt with and the fallen Elf buried, Allen found the other four Elves, and together they joined the Vanguard Army.
"Lord, I sincerely apologize for my earlier rudeness."
The delicately featured Allen found Levi and offered his apology.
Honestly, Allen had been genuinely furious when this human had mistaken him for a woman earlier.
But when the Lord saved him, holding no grudge, he was overcome with shame for his earlier behavior.
"Actually, I’m half to blame for what happened."
Levi waved his hand, indicating that Allen shouldn’t take it to heart.
It was just like that other time. Despite being the Lord of High Cliff Castle, Baron Debei, and the future Lord of the Wilderness—a man of great renown—he had been called a lowly tag-along by Tina’s side by that punk Mier. Lord Li had been so angry he nearly choked.
So, he could certainly relate.
"Lord, forgive my impertinence, but I would like to know what you plan to do with this Centaur Leader?"
Allen glanced at Gus, who was being treated by both Fu Jin and Sam in the distance, and suddenly asked, his tone laced with a hint of hatred.
As for the Centaur who had personally killed his comrade, he wanted nothing more than to put an arrow through him.
The Lord before him had taken the enemy down in just a few moves, which was extremely satisfying for Allen. But he never expected that this Lord would suddenly try to save the damned invader.
To waste the precious Magic Power of a noble Caster saving a half-dead enemy, no less.
This was why Allen couldn’t stop himself from asking.
"Hm?"
Levi instantly understood the Elf’s thoughts, and a mirthless smile touched his lips.
"So, how would you dispose of him?"
Anyone familiar with the Lord knew that when he was fooling around, you could joke with him and be as chummy as you pleased. But once that unreadable smile appeared on his face, if you continued to pester him, the consequences would be dire.
Zat kept his head down, feigning intense interest in the weeds on the ground, terrified of getting caught in the crossfire. Si Kai wanted to warn his Elf friend, but was stopped by a single look from the Lord.
"He should be beheaded! We should carry his head as a warning to these detestable invaders!"
Allen, completely unaware that the expressions of those around him had changed dramatically, continued speaking viciously.
"Not a bad idea!" the Lord praised with a smile, before his face suddenly turned cold. "But... are you telling me how to do my job?!"
Hearing Levi agree with his idea had excited Allen at first, but the next sentence was like a basin of cold water poured over his head in the dead of winter. His face turned as white as the snow outside the Shadow Forest.
At that moment, the terrifying image of the human before him felling one of the Wilderness’s most powerful experts in three moves reappeared in his mind.
"Lord..." Si Kai couldn’t help but start to speak, but Panda, who was beside him, grabbed his arm and shook his head.
"As allies, we are not under each other’s command. This Centaur Leader was captured alive by me, which makes him my spoils of war. Since when does someone who doesn’t belong to High Cliff Castle get to decide how he is disposed of?" the Lord stated expressionlessly, laying out a fact no one could refute.
"I don’t care if he killed your comrade. What has that got to do with me?"
"We had never even met before this. At least I’ve crossed paths with this Centaur a few times."
The warhorse snorted, as if lamenting how it had suddenly gotten so cold.
"What’s more, I am the Lord of High Cliff Castle and the commander of this Vanguard Army. Are you, as an outsider, trying to interfere with the military affairs of this army?"
With every sentence the Lord spoke, Allen’s face grew a shade paler. By now, his face was completely drained of color.
"As someone who’s been around, I’ll give you a piece of sincere advice: always know your place and don’t do something this stupid again. It will bring you and your comrades nothing but hardship."
After he finished speaking, the Lord spurred his horse, and the old steed, seeming to understand, trotted forward.
The Guard Team of High Cliff Castle passed the crestfallen Elf and silently followed their leader’s pace.
The other Elves barely managed to break free from that terrifying aura. As they looked at the figure ahead, a shadow fell over their hearts.
’Is this what a great figure among humans is like? His every word and action is suffocating.’
’He’s completely different from the peaceful Queen Aixi.’
"Lord, are you angry?"
After comforting Allen, Si Kai hurriedly rode up to the Lord’s side and asked cautiously.
To be honest, it was the first time he had seen the Lord berate someone with such a rapid-fire barrage. Even as a bystander, he felt the aura was terrifying, as if his own head, which had sat on his shoulders for decades, might suddenly fly off in the next second.
"Angry?" Levi shook his head and chuckled. "I was just making this sheltered Elf face reality. They are being invaded right now, and we are their reinforcements. Without us, their only fate is to be slaughtered by this Wilderness Alliance Army."
"But haven’t you noticed? Even so, the pride ingrained in these Elves is still there. A mere outsider and an ordinary Warrior dares to criticize the decision of a Baron and commander."
In truth, the real reason Levi rebuked the Elf was that this Elf named Allen was clearly dissatisfied with his decision regarding the Centaur Leader.
He was from a ruined Tribe, his own situation was dire, and yet he still completely failed to recognize his place.
The Centaur was his enemy, so what did that have to do with Levi?
Levi admitted he had his eye on that Magic Crystal Ore, but it wasn’t as if he absolutely had to curry favor with this group of Elves.
Besides, what would happen next? This Elf Tribe only managed to survive thanks to Fulina’s reinforcements, and her main army was right here. What would Fulina do when faced with this Elf Tribe that had suffered such heavy casualties?
No matter what kind of relationship they had, it was as fragile as a paper tiger in the face of self-interest. It would collapse with a single poke. That was just how people are.
Moreover, the Lord had already said that this Centaur Leader would be of great use to him. No one else had any objections, but this moron just had to speak up. He was asking for a scolding.
"Lord, Allen was just... just blinded by hatred."
Si Kai offered an explanation, but it sounded weak and feeble.
Levi waved his hand, not wanting to discuss the topic any further. "Si Kai, how much longer until we’re out of this Shadow Forest?"
"If our route is correct, we have about until the next sunset," Si Kai replied after some thought.
The inside of the Shadow Forest was perpetually gloomy, so it was impossible to use the sky to judge the time of day.
But by his calculations, they had already been walking in here for almost half a day.
"Let’s hope we make it in time." The Lord gazed into the distance, his thoughts unknown.
He silently gave the order to quicken the pace.
If Fulina fell here, it would be an unacceptable outcome for the Lord, both emotionally and strategically.
Before conquering the Southern Territory, the two of them were like grasshoppers on a single string—they prospered together and would fall together.
So, no matter what, Levi would not let anything happen to her here.
’But that woman is truly reckless. She could have just sent her men, but she insisted on leading them herself and walking right into danger.’
’It’s not as if everyone has my, Lord Li’s, kind of strength.’
’When I see her, I’ll have to give her a piece of my mind. That’s the only way I’ll feel better!’
