Chapter 123: Bonus Chapter 123: I missed you
The words carried in a simple whisper were enough to freeze Amaterasu, leaving her unable to move a single muscle. Not out of fear, but the complete opposite. Wolf... Only one person in her entire life had ever called her that. A nickname that would have made anyone else swallow their own words if they dared say it to her, except him.
Amaterasu slowly turned around to look at the owner of that voice, and the first thing she saw were those blue eyes she had loved most in her life, looking at her with pure love and nostalgia. For his part, Damon was surprised by how much he had missed those amber eyes with touches of black that were now staring at him with such intensity.
Amaterasu did not take even a second to rise from the chair as fast as her legs allowed, not caring that she knocked it to the floor. She immediately jumped toward the redhead, wrapping him with her arms and legs while hiding her face in Damon’s chest.
Damon held her by the waist, returned the hug, and began gently stroking the back of his beloved sun goddess. He instantly felt his clothes and neck begin to dampen with the goddess’s tears of happiness.
Amaterasu separated a little from the hug, pulling her face from his neck to look directly at him. Her hands rose to the redhead’s cheeks as she let out a laugh through her tears.
"I thought you had already forgotten about me, dummy. I thought I was going to have to go look for you myself."
She said it through tears, with one of the most beautiful smiles Damon had ever seen in his long and chaotic existence.
"How could I forget the goddess who literally taught me how to defend myself?" Damon said with love, feeling the goddess’s breath against his, their mouths only centimeters apart.
Happy with his answer, and even happier to see her man again, Amaterasu leaned in and pressed her lips against the redhead’s.
Damon could feel all the black-haired goddess’s repressed love in that single kiss. It was too much for something so simple. The love emanating from the goddess’s soul seemed to mix with his own so naturally that, for a moment, everything else stopped mattering.
Amaterasu’s tongue moved forward, asking for permission, and Damon granted it without resistance, letting the goddess take control of the kiss. The soft taste of the tea she had been drinking still lingered on her lips, mixing with the warmth of her mouth in a way that made Damon completely forget where he was. If something could be called a divine kiss, it was probably this.
After a long moment, both of them slowly separated. A thin string of saliva still connected their mouths, but neither of them seemed embarrassed by it. They looked into each other’s eyes again, transmitting all the love, desire, and nostalgia they had been holding back since the last time they saw each other.
Damon carefully wiped away the tears of happiness that were still falling down Amaterasu’s cheeks, while the goddess clung even tighter to him, hugging him with strength as if she feared he would disappear if she let go. The Shinto queen smiled in such a beautiful way that Damon could not help but return her gaze with the same softness, right before she gave him another quick kiss.
It was clear that Amaterasu could barely contain her happiness.
—Cough, cough.
Kaguya pretended to cough, placing a closed hand in front of her mouth while looking at the couple. More specifically, at Damon.
The redhead lifted his gaze and finally saw Kaguya watching him with an expression that was difficult to read. Amaterasu, for her part, blushed a little upon remembering that they were not alone. Her reunion with Damon had made her completely forget about the white-haired woman’s presence, something Kaguya noticed instantly as she watched them with obvious amusement.
"Hehe, sorry, Kaguya. I got a little carried away. How are you?" Damon said with a smile, noticing how different the white-skinned goddess looked.
"Is that all you’re going to say? No hugs or kisses for me?" the goddess asked, amused.
Damon blinked, clearly not used to seeing the white-haired woman acting in such a bold way. After all, the last time he had seen her, she was still Kaguya. You know, serious, distant, and almost emotionless most of the time.
That said, Damon did not think too much about it. Without letting go of Amaterasu, he held her with one arm and opened the other toward the white-haired goddess. Kaguya did not hesitate to approach the redhead, letting herself be wrapped in his embrace under Amaterasu’s amused gaze.
Kaguya gladly breathed in the redhead’s scent, intertwining her arm with his and pressing it gently against her chest. Honestly, Damon still felt a little tense around the beautiful white-haired woman. After all, he had fought who knew how long against her. Yes, he knew she had been controlled, and he also knew he had not fought her with everything he had, but even so, remembering Kaguya’s abilities was enough to make anyone’s hair stand on end.
"The hero decided to come home," Kaguya’s soft voice was heard, right before she left a slow kiss against Damon’s neck. When she separated, the shine of her red lips remained marked on his skin.
Everyone saw beauty in their own way. Someone had once told Damon that, and he could not agree more. He had seen many things in his life, perhaps too many, but nothing exactly like Kaguya. She was simply beautiful. The kind of beauty that made it seem as if no one had the right to touch her, as if doing so could stain the purity she emitted with only her pale skin and long white hair.
Her pearly purple eyes and her horns only made her appearance even stranger and more striking. In fact, the goddess had changed a little. Damon assumed that, after spending so much time with Amaterasu, she had indulged herself by adjusting a few details of her appearance. She was still Kaguya, but now she seemed more suited to the current era.
Many would say she looked like a devil because of her horns and that red third eye with black rings. But to the redhead, those traits only added even more beauty to her already rare and beautiful appearance.
"I missed you girls too," Damon said with a smile, hugging the two goddesses.
He could not help smiling a little more as he remembered how Kaguya had called him a hero. He had not done what he did for fame or recognition, but even so, it was always nice to hear someone say it.
After all, it was not easy being the hero of a war. Much less being the hero of the Elemental Nations and achieving something close to order in a world where war and death had been a business for generations.
After spending a while hugging, the three of them finally separated a little. However, before they could even sit down and talk calmly, they heard someone’s footsteps approaching the garden, drawing everyone’s attention.
Damon recognized her quickly. It was Izanami. The primordial goddess entered the garden with a serious face, walking with that cold elegance that seemed to make everyone around her think twice before speaking. But the moment her eyes found the redhead waving at her from afar, she stopped dead in her tracks. Damon barely had time to open his mouth before Izanami was already on top of him, hugging him by the neck while letting out an excited squeal, more like a fangirl than a primordial goddess.
Damon felt a drop of sweat slide down his temple. Izanami’s bipolar attitude had not changed at all. Even so, moments like this also reminded him of how incredibly powerful the mother of the Shinto gods was. Even if he was equal to or stronger than her, if he did not expect it, even the weakest primordial could catch the strongest off guard. And Izanami was not weak at all.
"Damon-kun!" Izanami squealed as she began covering his face with kisses from every possible angle.
The scene made everyone present sweat. It was not every day that they saw Izanami act like this. With almost everyone, she was a cold, serious, and dangerous woman. But when it came to the redhead, she seemed to become a completely different person.
"Iza—" Damon tried to say, attempting to get the goddess off him, but he did not get very far. Izanami glared at him from just a few centimeters away, as if warning him to prepare for pain if he said the wrong thing.
"Eh... I’m also very happy to see you," the redhead corrected quickly, with no desire to experience the primordial’s anger.
Women were scary when they put their minds to it.
As soon as she heard those words, Izanami smiled brightly and began throwing one question after another at him. How was he? Where had he been? Why had he taken so long? Had he been eating well? Had anyone bothered him? Did he need her to kill someone?
All of that without giving him time to answer even one.
"Hmm, Mother, maybe it would be better if you let him talk a little, no?" Amaterasu commented, looking at the scene with a mixture of amusement and resignation, unable to avoid trying to help her man.
Izanami froze for a moment, still hanging from Damon’s neck. She opened her mouth to argue with what Amaterasu had said, but in the end, the primordial sighed in resignation as if she were making the greatest sacrifice of her life and finally let him go, though not before giving him one last kiss on the chin. "I suppose I can wait," she said, though her tone made it clear she did not like the idea very much.
Damon let out a small laugh as he fixed his clothes, still feeling Amaterasu and Kaguya’s amused gazes on him. Izanami could be heavy-handed sometimes, but at the same time, the way the goddess treated him with such familiarity, something that was very rare with others, was something a part of him appreciated. After everything that had happened lately, finding someone who simply received him with hugs and who had known him for a long time gave him a break from everything related to his pantheon.
"I’m fine," Damon finally said, placing a hand on Izanami’s shoulder to calm her a little. "I’ve been busy. I’ve had a lot of things to do, honestly, but I’m fine." Izanami watched him carefully. She noticed he was a little tense, but she did not want to pry. She knew perfectly well the situation Damon was in with his pantheon, and after he saved her from losing herself in the misery of Yomi, Izanami could not help feeling eternally indebted to the redhead. So she simply wanted to take all his worries away, but at the same time, she would let him express himself little by little. Seeing her mother calm down, silence returned to the garden momentarily while Kaguya returned to drinking her tea.
"Come," Amaterasu said, taking him by the hand and guiding him toward the garden table. "At least sit with us. I want to know what has become of you." Damon did not protest and let himself be led, taking a seat beside the sun goddess while Kaguya poured another cup of tea and gently pushed it toward him. Izanami sat across from them, and just like that, the three goddesses seemed clearly satisfied to have him back.
