Chapter 877: Chapter 571: Fake Master [09] Arrogance (Part 1)
After breakfast, Nora Scott didn’t bring Shaw along. Instead, she went directly with Pedro Langley to the room on the third floor.
As soon as they entered, Nora took out her phone, glanced at it, and said, "No signal."
Their project had some level of confidentiality. Fifteen minutes before the meeting, the signal in the villa would be blocked, and using phones in the conference room was prohibited. Naturally, the pinhole cameras installed in the room would also be affected.
Pedro casually picked up a lighter, played with it for a bit, then turned to Nora and asked, "Are they monitoring you, or someone else who was supposed to be in this room?"
Nora replied, "Someone else."
It shouldn’t have been monitoring her.
She previously suspected that Daniela Esteves was sent by the Durant Family or Alexander Vaughn, possibly to lure the real target or to probe her. However, if Daniela was really sent by them, there wouldn’t be a need to install pinhole cameras; they would just have Daniela watch her. Furthermore, Daniela didn’t want to room with her at first, clearly indicating she was unaware of and had no purpose regarding the surveillance.
There were only two people in the room.
Since it wasn’t her, it had to be Daniela.
—Nora was now certain that Daniela was being watched by someone; however, which group was watching her remained unknown for now.
Pedro connected the dots and quickly understood. "Then we’ll have to trouble you to vacate this room."
Nora raised an eyebrow.
She observed carefully. To avoid being discovered, the surveillance was only installed in this room. So, if Daniela moved out, the people behind would lose track of her, and who knows what they might do next. Nora decided to move out herself, letting Daniela move back in, so the plans of the people behind could continue.
"Alright."
"How do you plan to do it?"
They had just had a big argument last night. Moving out immediately and giving the room back to Daniela would not only be out of character for Nora but might also raise suspicion from the people behind the scenes.
If it was the Durant Family, no problem; realizing that Nora discovered the surveillance, they wouldn’t worry too much.
But if it was Alexander Vaughn...
Alexander knew Nora was the Hall Master of Biel Hall and also knew about Biel Hall’s formidable power. If he sensed something, whether he would back off due to fear of Nora was uncertain. After all, Alexander was a cautious person; without a sense of risk, he wouldn’t have remained free till now.
"I’ll do what I’m good at," Nora chuckled, stretched her neck, and reminded him, "Just watch later, don’t interfere."
"... Alright."
An idyllic world for two wasn’t just a dream.
Without removing the existing surveillance, Pedro took out a few small cameras, wiped off their fingerprints, and installed them in unobtrusive places.
After packing her backpack, Nora turned to see Pedro installing the cameras, her brow twitching. She leaned close and teased, "Looks like you’re quite practiced at this, haven’t you done it a lot?"
Pressing her forehead back with his palm, Pedro laughed exasperatedly, "Basic safety knowledge."
"..."
Your household safety knowledge is quite comprehensive.
Regardless of the reason, Pedro’s adept handling of this skill meant the cameras were hidden much more skillfully than the ones installed before, reaching a professional level of expertise. Nora watched, slack-jawed, thinking that when it came to skirting the edge of legality, Pedro’s danger level was no less than hers.
—And this guy had the nerve to joke about "going to the station to bail you out" with her.
"Alright, let’s go."
With the last one installed, Nora clapped her hands, saw that it was about time, and turned to head to the conference room downstairs.
But, just as she turned, her wrist was grabbed. Pedro’s lazy voice came, "One more thing."
"Hmm?"
Nora raised her gaze, a little puzzled.
Pulling her closer, Pedro lifted her chin, his lips curving slightly, and kissed her.
*
The conference room was on the first floor. The experts and professors arrived early to start planning, with only Nora showing up fashionably late.
Trailing behind her was her sponsor, Pedro Langley.
However, Pedro’s presence was just as a financier, and his presence wasn’t necessary for the meeting’s work. For Nora, as a project engineer, it was a different story.
With over ten people in the project team, their eyes all turned towards her. Except for Shaw and Deputy Llewellyn, none of their gazes were friendly.
Ryan Ford’s expression was as dark as could be.
Daniela Esteves and Adrian Sullivan looked at her with nothing but resentment.
"Young people today can’t do anything right, late for a meeting on the first day."
"Came in through connections, not the same."
"So pompous, you could tell from her behavior last night. Don’t hold high hopes."
...
They were all scholars, full of pride, and couldn’t tolerate an oddball like Nora. They weren’t afraid of offending a junior, speaking openly about Nora’s faults, deliberately raising their voices for her to hear.
Nora acted as if she didn’t hear them, raised her hand to grab a chair, and with a "creak—" pulled it back, sitting down. Leaning back lazily, with her legs crossed, every move oozed a roguish air. Yet, paired with her strikingly beautiful face, she exuded a certain regal aura.
Everyone’s gaze was focused on her.
Each gaze carried a lot of pressure.
Anyone else in her place might feel their scalp tingle and break into a cold sweat.
Yet Nora was composed, lazily lifting her eyelids, scanning the room, and like a leader, leisurely said, "Since everyone’s here, let’s begin."
Everybody: "..."
Wake up, you teenage fool, you’re just a member, the one with the least credentials here, and neither the team leader nor the deputy leader has spoken yet!
Who do you think you are?!
