Chapter 1104: Chapter 770: Selling Dog Meat [03] Marcus Shaw [First Update]
After saying goodbye to Fátima, Nora Scott wandered over to the second camp.
She thought Pedro Langley was just a figurehead.
Unexpectedly, after finding out Pedro Langley’s location, as soon as she approached the tent, she heard Pedro Langley’s steady and strong voice from inside.
Unhurried, methodical.
They were having a meeting.
This batch of drones had just been developed and was in the testing phase. Many issues were sure to arise, which needed time and testing for feedback and resolution.
The original plan was to "activate Mechanism City" next month, giving them more time, but now, it’s been moved up to the end of June, so they have to hurry with testing to prevent any issues during filming.
—After all, the process to "activate Mechanism City" happens only once.
Pedro Langley was methodically investigating and discussing the issues found during today’s test.
Nora stood quietly outside the tent for a moment.
Finally, under the questioning gaze of the soldier standing guard, she gently shook her head, turned around, and found a small mound nearby, casually picked up a rock, and sat down.
For some reason—
The story Fátima told floated into her mind.
Immortality?
Divination?
Nora squinted her eyes.
The evening breeze gently blew, with a hint of coolness, brushing against her skin, making her feel very comfortable.
"Sis!"
Oliver Scott’s voice suddenly came from behind.
Nora turned to look.
She saw Oliver approaching, having taken off his jacket and draped it over his shoulder, his brows and eyes soft and smiling brightly.
Nora asked suspiciously, "What brings you here?"
Oliver was quite interested in drones and was thrilled to have the chance to work closely with the top-notch technical team, so he happily followed Pedro Langley and stayed in the second camp. He was supposed to be in the tent meeting with Pedro and couldn’t have had time to come out.
"Brother-in-law asked me to come over." Oliver walked over, not caring about the dirt, sat right down next to Nora.
Worried that Nora might feel cold, he draped his jacket over her.
"Hmm?"
Nora was puzzled.
After thinking for a moment, Oliver explained, "He saw your shadow on the tent and knew you were here. Later, he saw you leave and guessed you hadn’t gone far, so he asked me to come and keep you company."
"Oh."
Nora nodded slightly.
This logic, when it came to Pedro Langley, certainly made sense.
"Do you know which major Marcus Shaw applied for?" Nora asked, making conversation.
"He didn’t say."
"Weren’t you two applying together?"
"When I finished applying, he also finished his." Oliver said, then paused, and enthusiastically added, "But he said the school is in Fenton City."
"...Oh."
That was as good as not saying anything.
"Anyway, he won’t apply to a terrible school, among the good ones, there are only a few choices." Oliver counted on his fingers and comforted, "Sis, you don’t need to worry."
Nora pursed her lips, "I’m not worried."
"Alright. You’re not worried," Oliver nodded in agreement.
Acting all proper.
Nora glared at him.
Oliver pretended to lean to the side, and when Nora withdrew her glare, he smiled and leaned in closer.
He said, "Sis, you seem to have never scolded me but often complain about Marcus."
"...Hmm."
On this matter, Nora was noncommittal.
The reason being Oliver is obedient and understands how to win her favor. But Marcus is like stubborn wood, just saying what he needs to say and doing what he needs to do, regardless of whether you’re happy or not.
After a pause, Nora asked, "Does Marcus hold grudges?"
"No, Marcus wouldn’t hold grudges," Oliver replied hastily.
Nora drawled, "We Easton Family members..."
"Hmm?"
Oliver’s eyes widened, listening intently.
Clearing her throat, Nora stated slowly, "are particularly fond of holding grudges."
"..."
You don’t need to paint yourself in such a bad light.
"That’s not what I meant," Oliver chuckled, casually picking up a blade of grass to play with, "I actually just wanted to say, you seem harsh to him, but actually, you’re quite partial to him."
Nora instantly gave him a sidelong glance, "So you’re expressing your opinion on me?"
"How could that be," Oliver laughed, but then his voice lowered quickly, "I have everything, Marcus is different."
He actually knew it in his heart.
Nora Scott treats everyone equally.
However, Nora Scott seems to pay more attention to him on the surface, favoring him in small matters, but her consideration for Marcus Shaw is more long-term, so even before graduation, she started expanding Marcus Shaw’s network.
—Of course, Oliver Scott doesn’t need these.
It can only be said that Nora Scott has different emphases based on the environment they’re in and their individual personalities.
"What I mean is, your kindness to my brother, he is aware of it." Oliver Scott continued, "So—"
He paused, turned his head, and glanced at Nora Scott.
Nora Scott was suspicious: "What?"
Scratching his head, Oliver Scott slowly said, "I’ve made a bold guess about my brother’s aspirations..."
Nora Scott lifted her chin slightly, indicating, "Go on."
"It might have something to do with you." Oliver Scott said quite seriously.
"..."
Nora Scott was at a loss for words.
Her brows furrowed tightly, pondering something unknown.
Fearing he might have said too much, Oliver Scott quickly added, "I’m just guessing casually. The results will be out soon, then we’ll know."
Nora Scott responded with a distracted "Hmm."
"Oh, sis." Oliver Scott noticed that Nora Scott wasn’t as interested as before, so he leaned in and pulled a piece of paper from his pocket. "You’re knowledgeable, can you take a look at this?"
"Hmm?"
Nora Scott’s attention was immediately drawn.
Oliver Scott unfolded the paper and handed it to Nora Scott.
Nora Scott took it.
The paper had a diagram resembling a magic circle, with star and moon shapes, at first glance appearing like something from modern esoteric practices to impress people.
"Where did it come from?" Nora Scott was puzzled.
She understood mechanism diagrams.
However, these irregular, pure graphical designs were outside her area of expertise.
"One night, I saw Gabriel More and William White drawing this kind of design on the ground, thought they were acting mysterious, so I noted it down afterward." Oliver Scott explained.
Resting her chin on her hand, Nora Scott pinched the diagram and stared at it, deep in thought, "They drew it?"
"Yes."
Oliver Scott responded obediently.
After staring for a while, Nora Scott suddenly spoke, "You said Gabriel More and Wil—"
"William White."
"William White." Nora Scott paused, then continued, "Doesn’t William White seem like a child of twelve or thirteen?"
"Right." Oliver Scott nodded, saying, "Logically, my brother and I should be older than him, but he always looks at us as if saying ’you little kids’."
Nora Scott asked, "How does Marcus Shaw evaluate him?"
"My brother—" Oliver Scott was about to speak but noticed a figure nearby and raised his brows, "You can ask him yourself."
Nora Scott looked up.
In front of them was a downhill slope with a winding path, flanked by several tents.
Marcus Shaw was approaching from one side and faintly sensed someone watching him. He stopped, intending to look up. But before he could, he suddenly felt a sharp pain in his chest, clutching at it and bending over, then kneeling on one knee.
Over there.
"Brother—"
Oliver Scott had just raised his hand to greet Marcus Shaw but saw him bend over and kneel, and immediately stopped mid-sentence.
For a moment, he was shocked.
At this moment, Nora Scott stood up immediately and said, "Go down and take a look."
The slope was covered with gravel, and rushing down risked the falling stones hitting Marcus Shaw. However, they had no intention of taking a detour and instead spread out, avoiding the direct path to Marcus Shaw, and slid down along the gravel.
Given her pregnancy, Nora Scott needed to be cautious, so she wasn’t as fast as Oliver Scott.
Oliver Scott was the first to rush down.
"Brother!"
He stepped on the gravel path and headed straight for Marcus Shaw.
He ran over, patted Marcus Shaw’s shoulder, and urgently asked, "What’s wrong—"
The words were barely out.
Marcus Shaw suddenly raised his head, appearing momentarily confused, but his eyes were extremely calm, showing no abnormalities.
As if nothing had happened.
"..."
Oliver Scott stood there, unsure of what to say.
Then he saw Marcus Shaw calmly stand up, bend over, brush off the dust on his knees with an unperturbed expression.
Marcus Shaw calmly said, "I’m fine."
Oliver Scott opened his mouth, nearly biting his tongue. He grasped Marcus Shaw’s shoulder, carefully assessing him. Once he confirmed Marcus Shaw was unharmed, he breathed a sigh of relief.
Yet, he couldn’t help saying, "Are you pretending for us?"
