Chapter 408: Chapter 407: We Shall See
In the northern part of the Affiliated Hospital stood an eleven-story, brick-red building. It faced the psychiatry building across a small garden.
This was the Affiliated Hospital’s famous Little Red House, also known as the Foreign Guests’ Building.
As a renowned international metropolis, Binhai was home to many Chinese branches of foreign organizations, as well as the China headquarters and regional headquarters of international corporations.
This meant there were many foreigners working, living, and traveling in Binhai.
Naturally, these people got sick too.
As the most comprehensive and capable hospital in Binhai, the Affiliated Hospital was the first choice for many foreigners in Binhai when they fell ill.
This Foreign Guests’ Building, with its relatively complete facilities and high-end ward decorations, was primarily used to accommodate foreigners.
Of course, not just any foreigner was qualified to stay in this Foreign Guests’ Building.
Certain conditions had to be met!
The foreigners who stayed here either had a certain status or were wealthy.
The fee schedule for the Foreign Guests’ Building was priced in US Dollars and was more than ten times higher than the standard rates for Chinese citizens.
This Foreign Guests’ Building was also one of the Affiliated Hospital’s sources of income.
Although many Chinese citizens now go to developed countries for medical treatment, with the rise of China’s overall strength and medical standards, quite a few foreigners also specifically come to China to treat their illnesses.
Currently, this group of foreigners coming to China for medical purposes mainly hailed from friendly nations with a relatively lower level of development.
A smaller portion consisted of relatively poor people who had serious illnesses but couldn’t afford the exorbitant medical fees in their own developed countries.
At 6:10 PM, Qiu Ge arrived in front of the Little Red House with several students and assistants, waiting for the patient to arrive.
A few minutes later, a Bentley sedan pulled up in front of the Little Red House.
Qiu Ge had assumed the passenger was the Chinese-American patient, but to her surprise, it was Ren Zhongyuan and his son, Xiaobao, who got out of the car.
Compared to a few weeks ago, Xiaobao, who had originally been chubby, had slimmed down considerably. However, he had shot up three or four centimeters in height.
This was because after Ren Xiaobao’s craniopharyngioma was removed, his pituitary gland, whose function had previously been affected and suppressed, had returned to normal.
This led to a compensatory growth spurt in Ren Xiaobao’s height.
He was still not very talkative. A faint smile appeared on his face, which served as a greeting to Qiu Ge.
"Mr. Ren, what are you doing here?" Qiu Ge asked, a little puzzled.
"Dr. Kevin Vega asked me to come..."
Ren Zhongyuan explained softly, "When I took Xiaobao to the United States for medical treatment, I managed to consult Dr. Kevin Vega through some connections."
After a brief pause, Ren Zhongyuan continued to explain, "Yesterday, I suddenly received a call from Mr. Vega, asking about Xiaobao’s surgery."
"He said he would be flying to Binhai today with a brain tumor patient, and he hoped I could bring Xiaobao to the Affiliated Hospital..."
Hearing this, Qiu Ge finally understood.
She couldn’t help but sigh. ’What a small world.’
Just then, she heard him ask, "Dr. Qiu, where is Mr. Yan?"
"Mr. Yan has a surgery tonight, so he asked me to receive the patient from the United States, as well as Dr. Kevin Vega."
Qiu Ge replied and then saw two Rolls-Royces approaching from the direction of the hospital’s north gate.
The two cars slowly came to a stop in front of the Little Red House. The doors opened, and seven or eight people got out one after another.
Qiu Ge’s eyes were immediately drawn to a tall, white man getting out of the second car, dressed in jeans and a T-shirt.
The man was about 1.9 meters tall and had a solid, imposing build.
He had short, silver-gray hair, a high-bridged nose, deep-set gray eyes, and a masculine cleft chin.
Qiu Ge walked up to him and said in fluent English, "Mr. Vega, welcome to the China Binhai University Affiliated Hospital."
"I am Dr. Qiu Ge, the associate chief of neurosurgery."
Vega sized up Qiu Ge, then gave a polite yet distant nod. "Hello, Dr. Qiu."
He looked at the young doctors behind Qiu Ge, scanned their faces, and asked, "Which one is... Mr. Yan?"
Qiu Ge quickly explained, "I’m very sorry, Mr. Vega. Mr. Yan has a surgery scheduled for tonight and is not here."
"He entrusted me with making arrangements for your arrival."
Vega let out a soft "Oh," his gaze falling on Ren Zhongyuan and his young son beside him. He asked for confirmation, "Mr. Ren?"
"Hello, Mr. Vega. Yes, that’s me," Ren Zhongyuan replied politely.
Vega immediately walked right past Qiu Ge and approached Ren Zhongyuan and Xiaobao. "Did you bring the postoperative examination records...?" he asked.
Left standing to the side, Qiu Ge turned her attention to the several men and women nearby and asked politely, "Which of you is the patient from the United States...?"
A man with a slight paunch, who looked to be in his fifties or sixties and had a head full of salt-and-pepper stubble, answered.
"Dr. Qiu, I’m the brain tumor patient, Zhou Yan."
The man who introduced himself as Zhou Yan then pointed to the young man and woman in their early twenties supporting him on either side. He said, "These are my younger son and my daughter. They came along to take care of me."
"Hello, Mr. Zhou!"
Qiu Ge greeted him, then explained, "Mr. Zhou, we’ll first handle your admission procedures and perform a simple physical examination."
"The detailed examinations will begin tomorrow, after you’ve had a good rest."
"Alright, we’ll follow your arrangements, Dr. Qiu," Zhou Yan agreed.
Qiu Ge beckoned with her hand, and the students and assistants behind her came forward. They escorted Zhou Yan and his two children into the Little Red House.
Qiu Ge then shifted her gaze to the other three people.
In the center was a handsome and distinguished man in his fifties with an imposing air.
Flanking him were also a young man and woman.
However, the young woman, despite her age, had a full head of silver-white hair, which made Qiu Ge do a double take.
"And you are...?"
The distinguished man replied in a deep voice, "Dr. Qiu, I’m a friend of Mr. Zhou’s. Now that he has arrived safely at the hospital and needs to rest and adjust to the time difference, I won’t disturb him any further."
He then turned and instructed the young man beside him.
"Lu Yao, you stay here, in case Mr. Zhou’s family or Mr. Vega need anything..."
This distinguished man was Lu Yao’s father, Lu Zhezhi, and also the chairman of Kaiyuan Biology.
The woman with the silver-white hair was his niece, Zeng Ni.
Lu Zhezhi gave Qiu Ge a nod, then got into the Rolls-Royce with his niece and slowly drove away from the Little Red House.
As soon as he was in the car, Lu Zhezhi’s expression grew even darker.
Zeng Ni secretly pouted. Then she said in a coquettish tone, "Uncle, don’t be angry. I didn’t realize you brought me here with the intention of setting up a blind date. You should have told me explicitly."
"If I had known, I wouldn’t have dyed my hair this color."
Lu Zhezhi shook his head and said helplessly, "Your mother has spoiled you rotten."
"But I’m not angry at you. I’m angry at Yan Feifan."
"He showed absolutely no respect."
Zeng Ni asked, puzzled, "Is it because he didn’t come to greet us personally? Didn’t that Dr. Qiu say he has a surgery scheduled tonight?"
Lu Zhezhi snorted coldly and said, "A ’scheduled’ surgery means it isn’t an emergency."
"I refuse to believe he couldn’t spare ten or twenty minutes."
"Lu Yao is his savior, for heaven’s sake, but he was extremely reluctant about scheduling Mr. Zhou’s surgery."
"This man may have medical skills, but he’s ungrateful and disloyal—a man utterly devoid of virtue."
"I just can’t understand how that young lady from the Yu Family could reject your cousin and fall for a scoundrel like him."
Zeng Ni giggled and said, "Uncle, what’s so hard to understand? If Su Ye likes even a man like Mr. Yan but can’t stand your cousin, it just proves one thing: your cousin is even worse..."
Noticing Lu Zhezhi’s face darken even more, Zeng Ni quickly changed the subject. "Uncle, right now, we’re the ones asking him for a favor."
"No matter how angry you are, you just have to endure it."
Lu Zhezhi said in a cold tone, "To dare disrespect our Lu Family like this, this Yan Feifan is the first."
"I don’t know if he’s young and reckless, ignorant and fearless, or so confident in his talent that he’s become an arrogant madman who looks down on the world."
"We’ll just have to wait and see..."
