Chapter 297: Chapter 295: Unfathomable
Qin Li’s heart seized in shock!
Purple Eyes!!!
’To think I’d actually see one of the legendary Purple-eyed People here!’
’How... how is this possible? If I hadn’t inherited the memories of the Primordial Great Power, Hu Yanbo, I would have just been surprised to see someone’s pupils flash purple. I never would have made the connection.’
But now, Qin Li was finding it truly difficult to remain composed.
’I’d always thought that things like the Purple-eyed People or the descendants of Primordial Great Powers were far removed from my own life. They had nothing to do with me, so there was no reason to feel any hostility toward them.’
’Even if I had to face them someday, I never imagined it would be so soon. I certainly never imagined it would be a direct confrontation like this.’
’According to legend, the Purple-eyed People were descendants of the Outer Celestial Demons. Those demons were Great Powers capable of traversing the cosmos in their physical bodies. As their descendants, what kind of strength and special abilities did they possess?’
Moreover, Qin Li knew that Elder Jin, Elder Tie, and that man Pang Wen from the Thousand Kills Sect had all withdrawn from the Venerable Tournament early and vanished. They were probably lying in wait somewhere to get their revenge. But Qin Li couldn’t care less about the few remnants of the Thousand Kills Sect. They might have some power, but they lacked the courage to even try and kill him in a direct fight, like beaten dogs.
’What was there to fear from people like that?’
This old man before him, however, was clearly no pushover. Using his Innate Purple Qi, Qin Li could only sense that the man’s power was as vast and boundless as an ocean. It wasn’t that he couldn’t probe it; it was that once his senses entered, he couldn’t find an end to it!
This was clearly impossible. No matter how powerful a person was, their strength couldn’t manifest like this. The only possibility was simple: the old man’s realm was far, far beyond Qin Li’s own!
It was like the difference between a child and an adult; their perspectives and ways of understanding the world were completely different.
’If only I could command the Golden Palace right now,’ Qin Li’s thoughts raced. ’I could either crush this old bastard or hide inside it, couldn’t I?’ Just then, the old beggar across from him spoke.
"Little bastard, you must be Qin Li?" The old beggar bared a mouthful of large, yellow teeth, his face twisting into a savage grin. His eyes locked onto Qin Li like a predator eyeing its prey.
"Old bastard, are you the Cui Family’s dog?" Qin Li narrowed his eyes, looking at the old beggar and firing back without mercy.
"GAGA, your mouth is as venomous as they said. But today is your last day!" The old beggar laughed, seemingly delighted. His matted hair quivered with each cackle, dislodging flecks of grime.
"If you’re going to kill me, at least let me die understanding why."
Acting out of character, Qin Li started trying to stall for time. ’I wonder if that snake woman will follow me,’ he thought. ’Based on my understanding of human nature, odds are she would. The problem is, she isn’t human. She’s a cold-blooded animal. That’s the wild card.’
"Little bastard, I know you’re trying to stall for time, but that’s fine. This old man hasn’t spoken to anyone in a thousand years. I’ve almost forgotten how to hold a conversation. GAGA, don’t you want to know who I am?" As he spoke, the old beggar casually sat cross-legged on the ground, shoved a hand inside his clothes, and scratched for a good long while.
Qin Li rolled his eyes. ’This is the first time I’ve ever met such a disgusting expert. Never mind his complete lack of a powerful expert’s demeanor—I don’t have much of one myself. To a true powerhouse, demeanor is bullshit. Strength is all that matters. But this old bastard is just too damn vile, isn’t he?’
"So, you old bastard, did you crawl out from the Cui Family or not?"
"Little bastard, don’t bother trying to trick me. None of you are leaving here alive anyway, so I might as well chat with you. By the way, you three little things hiding in the grass over there, show yourselves. This little bastard Qin Li isn’t yours to kill. Scram if you know what’s good for you. Don’t wait until this old master is in a bad mood and decides to slaughter you all!" The old beggar called out nonchalantly toward a nearby mountain. Far in the distance, three figures shot into the air and fled in the opposite direction.
Qin Li recognized them at a glance: Elder Jin, Elder Tie, and Pang Wen of the Thousand Kills Sect. His heart skipped a beat, and he couldn’t help but revise his estimation of the old man’s power upward yet again.
The three were only three to five *li* away, which was within the range of Qin Li’s Divine Sense. However, Qin Li hadn’t extended his consciousness that far, as it would consume a great deal of Spiritual Power. Yet this old man had discovered them so effortlessly. ’His Divine Sense must be incredibly powerful!’
"Hmph. Now that those little shits are gone, we can have a proper chat!" The old beggar’s face was truly hideous, and to make matters worse, he seemed to love smiling. In truth, he looked slightly less repulsive when he wasn’t smiling.
"Even if the Cui Family wants me dead, they shouldn’t have needed to drag an old bastard like you out of his hole, right? They’re really overestimating me by sending someone like you to do the job!" Qin Li’s words were merciless. He wasn’t afraid of angering the old beggar. ’A guy this filthy probably doesn’t care what people call him, anyway.’
Sure enough, the old beggar didn’t seem to mind at all. In fact, he looked like he was enjoying it, prompting Qin Li to curse inwardly, ’Shameless old bastard!’
"You killed the Cui Family’s most talented little whelp, so of course they won’t let you go! As for who I am? Hmph, the truth would scare you to death, you little bastard! Not that you’d have heard of me anyway. Forget you—even your Qin Family ancestors, the ones from the Ancient Era... they’ve never heard of this old master’s glorious name!" the old beggar declared with immense pride.
Pfft!
Qin Li couldn’t help but burst out laughing. He looked at the furiously glaring old beggar and roared with laughter. "Old bastard, this young master never realized! You’re not just a filthy, shameless old bastard, you’re also the king of bullshit! Of course people from the Ancient Era never heard of you—your ancestors hadn’t even been conceived yet! HAHAHA!"
The old beggar flew into a rage. He had wanted to flaunt his identity, but he couldn’t bring himself to say it. Even if all these people were about to die, the secret of his race could not be revealed!
He never expected the brat to seize the opportunity to mock him so viciously. With a WHOOSH, the old beggar shot to his feet, his eyes fixed coldly on Qin Li. "Little bastard, you know too much! I’ve lost my patience for this little chat. I’m going to kill you!"
The moment the old beggar spoke, Qinling Mountain instantly moved to stand in front of Qin Li. "Qin Li," he said in a low voice, "the future of the Qin Family rests on your shoulders. You have to go! I’ll hold him off!"
Over a hundred Qin Family disciples, including Qin Suo, all stepped forward with resolute expressions, ready to shield Qin Li with their bodies. Though no one spoke, their actions made their determination clear.
Qin Li was touched. He shook his head. "It’s no use. Don’t throw your lives away. None of us are a match for this old bastard. I was stalling, hoping for backup, but it looks like no one’s coming. All of you, fall back. I’ll fight this old bastard myself! I’ve eaten bitterness and fought my whole life. The worst that can happen is death, and I’m not afraid of that. I fear neither heaven nor earth, and I certainly don’t fear some old bastard!"
"HAHAHA! You little bastard, I like you! If I didn’t have a reason I absolutely had to kill you, this old master would consider taking you as my disciple. The number one young genius of Profound Island dying by my hand... it’s not a bad way for you to go! Come, you little bastard, and accept your death!"
As the old beggar spoke, a majestic aura suddenly erupted from his body. The carriages and horses in front of them were instantly torn to pieces, as if savaged by a hurricane!
Sand and stones filled the air, the surrounding trees snapped at their bases, and the very turf was peeled from the earth and swept away.
An energy storm instantly formed with the old man at its epicenter!
The Qin Family members fared even worse. A dozen of them were instantly shredded by the pressure, while the stronger ones lost control of their bodies and were forced back.
Yet amidst the chaos, one woman gritted her teeth, determined to move closer to Qin Li.
Shangguan Shiyu!
In truth, she had known from the moment Qin Li started exchanging barbs with the old beggar that this would not end peacefully. As the person who understood him best, she knew better than anyone the helpless and indignant turmoil in his heart.
Facing this unfathomably powerful old beggar, Qin Li had no chance of victory, yet he was still desperately struggling to find a sliver of hope. She knew he wasn’t afraid of death, but he wanted *her* to survive.
’Now, she would show him with her actions. She would show Qin Li, the only man she had ever loved, ’If you’re not afraid, why should I be? We couldn’t be born on the same day of the same month in the same year, so let’s just die on the same day of the same month in the same year!’
Bracing himself against the energy storm blasting from the old man, Qin Li’s young, handsome face was a mask of fearlessness. Suddenly, an enchanting cloud of purple qi erupted from his body!
This was the first time since his arrival on the Celestial Essence Continent that Qin Li had fully unleashed his Innate Purple Qi outside his body to resist external pressure.
The old beggar froze. A flash of purple light once again glinted in his seemingly cloudy eyes. He stared intently at Qin Li’s own eyes, trying to find the proof that would resolve his confusion.
This was the very moment Qin Li had been waiting for!
The Blood-Drinking Divine Sword materialized in his hand. A torrent of purple Sword Qi surged unstoppably toward the old beggar.
Nine Heavens and Ten Lands, Only I am Venerable. This meant possessing the spirit to look down upon the world and the courage to strike at any time, against any foe!
"Old bastard, die!" Qin Li roared. Incredibly, his Sword Qi now contained traces of a sharp Sword Intent!
Under this heaven-shattering pressure, Qin Li’s Nine Heavens and Ten Lands, Only I am Venerable combat technique was actually showing faint signs of a breakthrough!
The Fourth Level of Only I am Venerable: Sword Intent, the Unity of Man and Sword!
This was the very realm Qin Li had been pursuing all along!
Across from him, the old beggar’s cloudy eyes suddenly blazed with a brilliant light. For the first time, his hideously ugly face grew serious.
