Chapter 340: Chapter 173: The Frame-Up (Part 3)
"A true man does not hide his name. I am Tang Lie of the Huiwu Sect!"
Fang Shuwen glanced at this Tang Lie with some surprise.
"The Huiwu Sect!?"
Tang Lie snorted.
"You’ve heard of it?"
"Never heard of it."
Fang Shuwen shook his head decisively.
"..."
’Then why did you act so surprised if you’ve never heard of it?’
Tang Lie’s face instantly turned bright red. It was hard to tell if it was from anger or the shame of his sect being unknown.
Fang Shuwen glanced at the man.
"A minor sect I’ve never even heard of dares to make a move on me?
"The circumstances today are unique. Otherwise, you would have already died by my hand.
"Now talk. How did you know who I was?
"And why did you suddenly attack me?"
"...The name of the Demon Evil God... who in the entire Northern Domain doesn’t know it now?"
Tang Lie’s brow was furrowed. He seemed to have thought of something but didn’t want to say it.
His words rang hollow.
Fang Shuwen rotated the rations in his hand, letting them heat more evenly.
"Wrong.
"You’re lying to me... You must have known I was here before you arrived.
"That’s why you were sure it was me, even though you only saw my back.
"Otherwise, if it were anyone else, even if they thought I was the murderer, they would have investigated before attacking.
"At the very least, they would have asked for the reason...
"But you... you clearly knew something before you even came here.
"Which is why you didn’t ask a single thing when you attacked...
"Let me guess. Someone told you that I killed a lot of people here.
"You came to check on the situation, saw the tragic deaths of the villagers, and were so overcome with rage that you wanted to fight me to the death?
"Is that it?"
Tang Lie was dumbfounded for a moment, but then he sneered.
"It seems you know one got away.
"But you don’t have to worry about him. I won’t betray him. My people from the Huiwu Sect will take him to the Celestial Martial Grand Assembly.
"And expose your vicious and vile deeds..."
SLAP!!!
Before he could finish, Fang Shuwen slapped him again.
He then looked at the man’s face and nodded in satisfaction.
"Now it’s symmetrical."
"You!!!"
Tang Lie was so angry he could have breathed fire. If he could move even a sliver of the Inner Strength in his body, he would have charged forward long ago. Even knowing he couldn’t win, he would have at least splattered Fang Shuwen’s face with his blood.
Fang Shuwen smiled.
"You should be grateful I haven’t killed you. Keep that foul mouth of yours running, and I’ll cut out your tongue and feed it to the dogs."
Tang Lie instinctively flinched, but then, as if feeling his own reaction was pathetic, he stretched out his neck and yelled:
"If you have the guts, kill me! Go on, do it..."
Seeing that Fang Shuwen’s hand was already on the hilt of his sword, Tang Lie decisively shut his mouth.
Fang Shuwen scoffed.
"And here I thought you were truly fearless. Turns out you’re not so brave after all.
"Seeing as you’re a man of some integrity, let’s be frank.
"I didn’t kill the people in this village.
"The person who told you all this might be the real killer."
"That’s impossible."
Tang Lie didn’t believe it at all.
"The great Demon Evil God—you mean to tell me you dare to commit the act, but not admit to it?"
Fang Shuwen chuckled lightly.
"I think I know why they came to you."
"What do you mean?"
"Because you’re an idiot."
Feeling that the piece of meat in his hand was warm enough, Fang Shuwen passed it to Long Qingzhi.
"Thank you, Brother Fang."
Long Qingzhi took it and bit into it, eating with relish.
Fang Dabao, who was gnawing on a bamboo shoot, looked at the shoot in its paws, then at the meat in Long Qingzhi’s hands.
It couldn’t help but nudge its big head over.
Long Qingzhi quickly put up a hand to push it away.
"No, no! Not for you, Dabao! Brother Fang said you don’t eat meat."
Fang Dabao tried to be cheeky and lunged for it.
Fang Shuwen shot it a glance, and it immediately behaved.
Long Qingzhi found it amusing.
"I can plead with you all day and you won’t listen, but all it takes is one look from Brother Fang, and you straighten up."
"It’s just been beaten one too many times."
Fang Shuwen glanced at Fang Dabao.
Lately, Fang Dabao seemed to be feeling its oats, occasionally trying to test its skills against Fang Shuwen.
Fang Shuwen wasn’t Chen Yan, who couldn’t even beat a donkey. Fang Dabao had suffered quite a bit at his hands. Even though the beast was tough and could take a beating, it could hardly withstand Fang Shuwen’s fists and feet.
After a few rounds of that, it had naturally developed a healthy sense of fear.
Seeing the two humans and the one Iron-Eating Beast completely ignoring him, Tang Lie felt a surge of rage choke his chest, making him see stars.
"Fang Shuwen... you, what in the world do you mean!?"
Fang Shuwen glanced at him and shook his head lightly.
"Someone knew this was a path I was certain to take, so they committed murder here to frame me.
"The person who sought your help is either one of the killers or a villager from this village.
"If it’s the latter, then he was most likely deceived.
"Into thinking the killer’s name was ’Fang Shuwen’.
"And the result is what we have now: you, trying to kill me without a second thought. The reason I haven’t killed you... is because I respect your courage in daring to draw your blade on me to stand up for the common folk.
"But I have to say, you’re too quick to believe one side of a story. The path of the Jianghu isn’t for you. If you get the chance, you should leave it. Otherwise, you’re bound to die a violent death sooner or later."
Tang Lie’s head was buzzing. He understood the first part, but for some reason, he couldn’t quite wrap his head around the last part.
’Why, out of nowhere, am I the one who has to leave the Jianghu?’
Seeing his pained expression, Fang Shuwen was amused.
"Well, well. Looks like you’re about to grow a brain."
Tang Lie looked up, his face contorted.
"No, I don’t get it... How could he think the killer’s name was ’Fang Shuwen’?"
"It’s simple."
Fang Shuwen said with a smile:
"All the killer had to do was shout ’I am Fang Shuwen!’ while committing the murders. Since these villagers had never seen my face, they would naturally believe whatever name was shouted.
"However, to be honest, it’s unlikely that the person who found you was a villager.
"Because that lie is too easy to expose...
"It would all come out at the Celestial Martial Grand Assembly."
