Chapter 18: Gacha Rewards

Ding!

[Detecting Host cursing the system. Host is punished by voiding one random Gacha ticket and 100 Eternal Devotion Tokens.]

Lucien stared at the notification. Had he read it wrong?

He walked out.

The system interface flashed again, slapping him with the truth. His mouth fell open. Was this the same system he had awakened? He never expected this – it felt like the system was toying with him. 𝓯𝓻𝒆𝙚𝒘𝓮𝙗𝓷𝒐𝓿𝙚𝒍.𝙘𝓸𝙢

His hand clenched into a fist. If the system were a physical being, he would have thrashed it bloody.

Instead, he could only swallow his frustration – the embers of his doused lust mixing with the cold burn of the punishment.

He focused on the Gacha Engine, the only way to take his attention away from this.

With the system voiding one ticket, what remained was six random Gacha tickets and a rare Gacha ticket.

He had two Eternal Devotion Tickets, which meant he could use them to increase the reward of a Gacha pull by two ranks.

His lips curled into a smile. With his plan, he might draw something big.

He summoned the Gacha Engine.

The familiar dark, smoky translucent screen appeared in front of him.

The familiar slot and the ancient, cold dark metal.

The counter: Random Gacha Ticket (6), Rare Gacha Ticket (1)

Ding!

[Does Host want to use all tickets at once or spin one by one?]

The system notification popped in front of the translucent screen.

He picked spin one by one.

He clicked the counter, and the Gacha Engine began its miracle.

The engine slot opened. The familiar shadowy hand, thin and long-fingered, emerged and pulled the ticket inside.

The ticket vanished, and the slot closed.

Then the Engine began to move.

The familiar low grinding sound came from the screen, vibrating through Lucien’s skull.

The grinding stopped.

A black card slid out from a seam on the Engine’s side, floating above the screen.

Lucien flipped it, and a brown light shone.

Ding!

[Congratulations, Host. You have pulled a Normal Grade Gacha Card (Pill): Low Grade Healing Pill (x2).]

[Effect: Restores 50 HP instantly. Common consumables.]

Lucien froze. He hadn’t expected this, but remembered that it was due to the system’s enchantment that he had such a reward at the beginning.

He looked at the remaining random Gacha tickets. He didn’t believe he wouldn’t pull anything great.

He spun again.

Ding!

[Congratulations, Host. You have pulled a Normal Grade Gacha Card (Item): Pair of Trousers.]

[Effect: Protects your body from cold, heat, and sickness.]

Lucien had to check twice if he had heard wrong. His expression turned ugly.

He took a deep breath because, with his frustration, he might curse the system again.

It was like falling from grace to grass. Having received such powerful Gacha rewards before, what were these?

He looked at the counter. If he pulled rubbish again, there was no way in hell he was spinning again.

With a deep breath, he spun the third time.

Ding!

[Congratulations, Host. You have pulled a Rare Grade Gacha Card (Item): Cinderheart Pendant (R).]

[Effect: +15% fire technique power, +10% Originat efficiency (fire only), Cinder Ward (once/day – absorbs 30% fire damage, heals 15% HP over 5 seconds).]

Looking at the third Gacha reward, he thought of one person.

This would be a great present for Seraphina. He smiled, thinking about how excited Seraphina would be.

This should be the first time he was giving her a gift.

He immediately accepted the Gacha reward. The golden Gacha card burst into golden particles, and the pendant appeared in his palm.

In his palm, the pendant was a smooth, teardrop‑shaped gem, about the size of a thumbnail.

Its color was deep burnt orange, darker near the edges, with thin veins of red that pulsed faintly. It was warm to the touch, not hot.

The surface was glassy and slightly slick, and a subtle vibration hummed against the skin, like a tiny heartbeat.

He stored it away the next second. He rubbed his hands and spun again.

Ding!

[Congratulations, Host. You have pulled a Normal Grade Gacha Card (Item): Toothpick.]

[Effect: Removes food debris stuck between teeth. Can be used 10 times before breaking. Does not grant any combat or cultivation benefits.]

For minutes, Lucien stared at the message in front of him. The words echoed in his mind.

His expression was uglier than crying.

A toothpick.

He read it again to confirm he hadn’t misread.

What do you need a toothpick for in a cultivation world? Lucien cried inwardly.

He didn’t know when he burst out laughing.

You know – when you are so frustrated that you laugh.

"F..." He almost cursed the system but caught himself quickly.

He guessed this was the system’s plot. If he cursed, it might void the remaining Gacha ticket.

He calmed himself down. He looked at the system. He felt it was intelligent, baiting him to curse it.

With a forced smile, he spun the last random Gacha ticket.

Ding!

[Congratulations, Host. You have pulled a Super Rare Gacha Card (Creature): Shadow Oath Knight (SR – Evolvable).]

[Effect: Summons a loyal, silent knight bound by shadow. Abilities: Shadow Step, Oath of Protection, Silent Execution, Unyielding Shadow.]

[Note: This creature is genderless, emotionless, and exists only to serve. It will not engage in any form of non‑combat interaction.]

Lucien was surprised by the reward this time. He had pulled a knight – and look at it, it was a super rare creature.

He grinned – until he reached the note. He coughed. What did the system mean?

Was he someone like that?

He looked at the rare Gacha ticket and began his plan.

Ding!

[Does Host want to use 2 Eternal Devotion Tickets to upgrade the Rare Gacha Ticket? (Y/N)]

Lucien clicked Yes.

Ding!

[Gacha Ticket has been upgraded to Super Super Rare Gacha Ticket (SSR).]

Ding!

[Does Host want to use 1000 Eternal Devotion Tokens to upgrade the SSR Gacha Ticket? (Y/N)]

He clicked Yes.

Ding!

[Gacha Ticket has been upgraded to Ultra Rare Gacha Ticket (UR).]

Lucien licked his lips. This was what he had been waiting for.

He immediately spun with the ticket.

The Gacha Engine let out grinding sounds.

Ding!

[Congratulations, Host. You have pulled an Ultra Rare Gacha Card...]
