Chapter 85: Chapter 84 - Cold eyes
BAANNNGG!!
BAANNNGG!!
BAANNNGG!!
Armed with only a mechanical sight mounted on the barrel of a Glock-17, Doctor Portia assisted in a wasteful long-range attack.
That because the 9mm bullets fired to a pack of black wolves penetrate their fur, just to taking down a single black wolf with four bullets...
What a waste of ammunition.
"Stop shooting, Portia."
"The new general is not someone who will easily fall when attacked by a pack of black wolves or whatever it is, right?"
"The young girl with him wasn’t just any young girl either, she wouldn’t have died so easily... if you hadn’t poisoned them both."
"Just give them the antidote potion you brought to neutralize their overwhelming fight desire."
BAAANNGGG!!
BBAANNNGG!!
BBAAANNNGG!!
Amidst the sound of gunfire coming from Doctor Portia’s Glock-17, I tried to stop her from firing. Unbeknownst to me, Doctor Portia had grabbed some 9mm rounds that were safely stored in a plastic box. Like it or not, I had to rely on my long-range accuracy and make sure Doctor Portia saved every 9mm round that came out of the barrel of her Glock-17.
It’s not that I’m stingy or don’t want to share 9mm bullets with Doctor Portia, it’s just... the supply of 9mm bullets in this eroge world is limited.
To resupply the bullets, I need to submit a war proposal to Amelia via my smartphone.
"Eh? Why would I give an antidote to someone who loves to fight?" Doctor Portia replied as she stopped firing shots at the pack of black wolves.
"Because it’s a disadvantage for them," I replied in a calm tone and still kept my gaze on the HK-416’s scope.
The slightest mistake could jeopardize the lives of the new General and Chitose, who were fighting tooth and nail on the front lines. Meanwhile, Doctor Portia and I, back in the rear, could only ensure their safety through long firing support.
"Without feeling pain, they will fight without relying on their instincts for survival. Their ferocity while under the effects of the pain-numbing potion will probably only be useful when they have been fatally attacked or in a state of recovery."
"But for a fight like this, I hope they fight with full awareness," I continued, pulling the trigger of the HK-416 on one of the black wolves in Chitose’s blind spot.
BAANNGGG!!
One quick shot aimed at Chitose, but...
PAAANNGG!!
The flash from the katana she was carrying hit the HK-416 bullet and split it in two as it passed through.
From the HK-416 scope, I could see a small glance from her cold eyes that seemed to say she wasn’t important enough to protect.
The velocity of a 5.56x45mm NATO bullet may seem slow on camera, but its impact and destructive power should be enough to shake Chitose’s katana.
Whether it was Chitose’s high skill or her high-quality katana, it could slice through the HK-416 bullets with ease.
"Ugh, am I seeing this, right? R-Really?" I wasn’t too surprised by Chitose’s cold demeanor or her sword’s ability to slice through bullets that were flying towards her.
What surprised me was that she fought brutally, unlike the graceful, elegant sword-fighting style seen in eroge games.
I don’t know what went wrong, but it felt strange to me to see a heroine fighting with such a brutal, merciless sword style. She also had a creepy smile, as if trying to release the stress building up inside her.
"U-Uuuhh... this is the first time I’ve seen a Heroine as brutal as this," I said in a weak voice to myself.
As I watched Chitose for a while longer, I suddenly felt sorry for the black wolves who were trying to find Chitose’s opening and attack her in a group.
From the open gap that Chitose had deliberately shown, a deadly trap was hidden from them and immediately slashed the black wolf’s body.
"Wooow!! That young girl is really great. I doubted my own eyes after seeing her family symbol on one of the swords she was carrying. It turns out she really comes from that family, huh?" said Doctor Portia, who sounded like she knew Chitose.
In the main storyline of this eroge world, Chitose carries one of the swords engraved with her family’s symbol. I didn’t really pay attention to the katana or other swords Chitose carried because I didn’t want to get involved with her.
Her coldness and reluctance to speak to me were clearly a form of rejection and a subtle threat, like "Don’t talk to me."
With such a clear threat, how could I possibly approach her?
I’m also self-aware of my position as an unimportant NPC character in this eroge world. Our closeness so far has been based on silent conversations and satisfying her curiosity about the weapons I possess.
It’s a bit sad, but that’s what happened.
BAAANNGG!!
"Do you know about her family, Portia?" I asked Portia after she shot black wolf while prone and out of ammo.
"I know... she is part of a noble family that is much more honorable than yours."
"I’m sorry if my noble family is dishonorable."
"It’s okay, you’ve already lost your memory of your ’loser’ family. That young girl’s family isn’t that important. In fact, your family is considered disgusting by her honorable family... because your noble family are too losers."
"Hmm... Is that what really happened? No wonder she to cold to me..."
Through this unimportant conversation, I learned new information about my relationship with Chitose. It wasn’t anything special, but it made sense given her cold attitude and behavior toward me.
Whatever rumors had spread about my disgusting noble family, they had certainly reached Chitose’s ears.
From the start, she was cold to me with a real reasons...
Is there something that makes her act cold towards me, other than that reason?
"My foolish noble family hasn’t done anything to incur the wrath of their family, have they?" I asked Doctor Portia, who was relaxing, loading a full magazine into her Glock-17.
Cttaaakk...
Srraaakkk...
"I don’t know, I was fired by your father after making a mistake that I didn’t make," replied Doctor Portia, which sounded cold to my ears.
"Ah, shit, something must have happened in the past. My noble family is so stupid. So I’m pretty sure that something happened between my noble family and her noble family."
"It maybe happen or may not happen at all, Hans."
"Well, with her cold attitude and refusal of my previous attack for help... There must be a huge problem between my noble family and hers, Portia."
"Ugh, that’s precisely not happen, Hans. Because your noble family’s territory is so far from her family’s territory. About her refusal help... I don’t think it’s a personal grudge, but rather that she’s too reluctant to accept help while she’s in training."
Doctor Portia’s answer made my brain think about various possible events that happened in the past.
"Hmm... Practicing sword techniques without any help, huh?" I muttered under my breath and aimed the HK-416’s scope at the new General.
"If that’s what Chitose wants, then I’ll let her practice sword techniques alone. I take back my earlier words, Portia."
"Let them get caught up in the desire to fight until they’re satisfied. I want to see how long they can survive when their survival instincts are dead."
The order I gave to Doctor Portia may have sounded cruel, but it was without reason, and no harm would have been done.
Letting the new General and Chitose fight in a battle-crazed mental state would be a fun to watch.
My hand immediately pulled the safety pin on the HK-416 and removed my sight from the scope.
"Have you given up on helping them, Hans?" asked Doctor Portia, who looked at me with questioning eyes.
"Yes, helping someone who is in fighting frenzy would be a waste..."
"So, what are you going to do next?"
"Nothing, just enjoying the fierce battle that is happening before my eyes."
"Then... I will do the same."
Next to me, lying prone, Dr. Portia placed her Glock-17 down. Her large breasts, pressed down by her weight, seemed to be beckoning me to touch them.
Booiinngg...
Boooiinngg...
In such a tense situation, I couldn’t help but think about something else happening before my eyes. To prevent myself from dwelling on the lewd and obscene situation, I turned my head to look at the fight unfolding before my eyes.
The new general, wielding a large weapon, moved into a desperate position to receive the attack from the pack of black wolves. Chitose, standing nearby, responded with a swift slash, which is difficult for my eyes to follow.
Cliiingg!!
Clliinngg!!
The flash from Chitose’s sharp blade spread in all directions, leaving dazzling traces of katana slashes.
There are no signs of a retreat in the black wolf attacks; also they are keep increasing as more and more victims fall from the black wolf pack.
"Aawwwwuuuu!!"
Amidst the howls of the black wolves that thundered through the air, I could feel the rush of hot air all around.
The warm morning atmosphere had slowly transformed into a hot afternoon. The fierce battle unfolding before my eyes grew increasingly heated as time passed. The troublesome black wolf pack began employing new attack tactics.
This time, the black wolves’ attacks circled in all directions, no longer seeking weakly guarded blind spots, but rather openings they could exploit by sacrificing other black wolves.
This development of fast attack tactics made me smile.
"Well, looks like you’ll be busy working as a Doctor, Portia."
"Yes, it seems so, Hans," replied Doctor Portia as she stood up from her prone position and prepare her potion.
