Mika and John continued through the desolate streets of the apocalyptic city until they spotted a group of goblins.

"Perfect. Let’s see what you can do, Mika," John said, smirking.

Mika flashed him a cocky grin and lunged forward, her sword poised.

"Come and get it, assholes!" she screamed, her face flushed with excitement.

The goblins screeched and charged, their weapons glinting in the sunlight. Mika ducked and dodged, her movements quick and agile. She parried a blow from a goblin and thrust her sword into its chest. Her movements were quick and sharp, but she lacked the finesse of a skilled swordsman.

"You’re doing great," John said, his eyes tracking the battle.

"Damn right, I am!"

She fought hard, her movements becoming more fluid and confident.

"That’s it, you’ve got this," John said, encouraging her, but there were too many goblins for her to handle.

"Stay back, John. This is my fight," Mika growled.

John observed the battle from afar. Mika was struggling, but she was still holding her own. She dodged a blow from a goblin and kicked its chest, sending it flying. She was starting to get the hang of it.

"You can do it, Mika. Just focus," John said, his voice rising over the chaos.

But just then, a goblin lunged and slashed her arm. Blood spurted from the wound, staining the ground crimson. John was surprised to see blood, he wasn’t sure what kind of android Mika was or what she looked like on the inside, but he kept that to himself.

"I’m fine. It’s just a scratch," Mika said, gritting her teeth.

"No, you’re not. Let me see it."

"No, I can handle this. Just leave me alone," Mika hissed.

John shook his head and stepped forward, his hand reaching for his dagger.

"I said, I’m fine!" Mika shouted, her eyes flashing with anger.

"Listen, we need to treat that wound. If you keep fighting, you could lose your arm. Wait here." John said and lunged towards the remaining goblins, his dagger poised.

Mika watched him, her jaw set.

"Fuck this," she muttered and rushed towards the goblins.

Her movements were wild and reckless, her blows missing their mark and only hitting air.

"Mika, stop. You’re not ready," John said, his voice stern.

"I can do this," Mika insisted, her voice rising in pitch.

John blocked a blow from a goblin and struck it with a powerful uppercut, sending it reeling. He glanced back and saw Mika struggling to parry a blow from a goblin, her movements jerky and uncoordinated.

"ENOUGH!" John shouted and exploded towards Mika and the goblin with a shockwave. He made quick work of the goblin and grabbed Mika, pulling her away from the fight.

"Let me go!" Mika hissed, her eyes burning with rage.

"No. You’re done for today."

"I can still fight. Just let me show you."

"I said, no."

"Fine, asshole," Mika growled and sat down as John took care of the goblins.

She watched him, her expression stormy and unreadable. She hated that he was stronger than her, but she couldn’t deny that she needed his help.

After the battle, they made their way back whilst John grabbed as many materials as he could, mostly concrete. As they arrived, John cleaned Mika’s wound and wrapped it in a bandage.

"There. You’ll be fine," John said, his voice even and calm.

"I could’ve beat them," Mika grumbled, her face sullen.

"You were reckless and almost got yourself killed."

"Whatever," Mika muttered, her cheeks flushing.

"Be patient, Mika. I will teach you until you don’t need my help anymore."

"I’m not a child. I don’t need a babysitter."

"No, you’re not. I won’t babysit you, I will just make you stronger, that’s all."

Mika huffed and walked away. John smiled, amused by her stubbornness. He admired her spirit and determination. Now, it was time to expand the base.

He willed the portable base’s interface and a holographic screen that only he could see appeared in his frontal vision. He moved to the courtyard and began unloading all the materials from his inventory. As he selected the materials for recycling, they vanished instantly and the numbers on the green began to increase.

He wanted to expand the base immediately, but people were still inside the base. He had no idea what would happen if he ordered the interface to modify the structure while people were still inside.

He pondered what to do while he explored every feature and then he noticed the simulation mode tab. In the simulation mode, he could come up with designs without actually modifying the structure in the real world. He grinned and pressed the "Simulation" button.

As he did, his mind blacked out and when he opened his eyes again, he was floating above his base, but there was nothing around it. The city was gone and only the base remained. John understood he was already in the simulation. He could see a design tool in front of him, a menu with different options. He selected the base and saw the entire layout.

"Let’s get started," John said and began designing the new structure. He wanted more rooms, a larger kitchen, a training room, a bigger workshop and a few more bathrooms. He also wanted an armoury and needed to make better use of the courtyard. It was currently empty and could be used for planting vegetables or just to have a place to sit and relax.

After a few hours of planning, he exited the simulation and found himself back in the real world. He called over Julia and Octavia and asked them to bring everyone outside. They complied happily and came together once everybody else left and he was ready to begin.

He quickly ordered the portable base to expand and the courtyard, the new structure, the new rooms and the new kitchen. The entire process took only a few minutes, and he was done.

He smiled and turned to his community, "welcome to our new base. Let’s make this place our home."
