Chapter 164: Jealousy Incoming
A war is coming.
He will give the queen a chance to surrender.
The end lies in whether she’ll accept her defeat to a barbarian or not.
Dismissing the glowing screens with a quick flick of his wrist, Kane turned away from the training yard.
Firlia, Thora, and Sira had already marched off to execute their respective tasks, leaving the courtyard surprisingly quiet under the morning sun.
Misha, however, had not moved an inch.
Standing beside the empty weapon racks, she crossed her arms beneath her chest and tapped her foot against the cobblestones.
A very distinct, unmistakable pout rested on her lips, making her look entirely too adorable for someone who possessed terrifying magical abilities.
’I know that look,’ Kane thought, bracing himself as he turned to face her.
’That is the look of an oracle who knows too much and wants to see me squirm.’
"Did you need something else, wife?" Kane asked, walking back toward her with a confident stride.
"Perhaps a new temple? I have the gold for it now, and the merchants will be paying entry taxes by noon."

"A temple would be lovely," Misha replied, her voice dangerously sweet.
"Though I would settle for a simple silencing spell placed over your study doors."
Kane stopped right in front of her, raising a single eyebrow.
"A silencing spell? Is the late-night paperwork bothering you?"
"Paperwork does not normally moan for air, Kane."
Misha uncrossed her arms, stepping close enough to poke him squarely in the chest.
"You kissed me goodnight, tucked me into bed, and promised to stay beside. You said you needed to focus."
"I did review them," Kane defended himself, catching her hand and lacing his fingers through hers.
"They were very educational."
"I am sure they were," Misha scoffed playfully, though a faint blush crept across her cheeks.
"Because not even an hour later, the moaning started. I could hear it from the next room over. You were exceptionally loud for a man supposedly reading maps."
’Seraphine was supposed to be a stealth warrior,’ Kane mused, fighting a losing battle against a grin.
’Apparently, her volume control needs a serious system upgrade.’
"I was engaged in a very intense tactical negotiation," Kane offered, pulling Misha gently by the waist.
"We were discussing the intricacies of Elven border security."
"On the balcony?" Misha challenged, tilting her chin up to meet his gaze.
"Because the wind carried the sounds right through my window. I lost out on at least three hours of sleep listening to your tactical negotiation reach a very sudden conclusion."
"Are you jealous, little oracle?"
"I am sleep-deprived," Misha corrected, though her pout softened into a tiny, reluctant smile.
"And perhaps a tiny bit envious. You spoil that warrior."
"She brought me the keys to a kingdom," Kane reasoned, wrapping his other arm around her lower back to pull her flush against him.
"Proper rewards ensure future loyalty. It is simply good leadership."
Misha rested her hands against his collarbone, tracing the edge of his tunic.

"I brought you my heart, a lifetime of devotion, and the ability to see the future. What reward does that earn me?"
’She knows exactly how to corner me,’ Kane thought, his chest warming with genuine affection.
’And she knows I will surrender to her every single time.’
"Whatever you want," Kane promised, lowering his head until their noses brushed.
"Name your price."
"Soundproof walls," Misha murmured, her eyes fluttering shut as he brushed a stray lock of silver hair behind her pointed ear.
"And perhaps a demonstration of these stamina upgrades you acquired last night. I need to ensure they actually work before you take them into battle."
"A rigorous stress test?" Kane chuckled, his breath fanning across her face.
"That sounds like a very dangerous mission."
"I am a brave woman," Misha whispered, leaning up to capture his lips.
Her kiss tasted like morning tea and lingering magic, instantly wiping away any thoughts of trade routes or Elven armies.
Kane deepened the kiss naturally, matching her sudden enthusiasm. Misha hummed softly in approval, her hands sliding up to grip his shoulders as she melted against him.
Breaking the kiss just enough to let them both breathe, Kane rested his forehead against hers.
"You realize the courtyard is open, right?" Kane teased, glancing at the few guards still sweeping the dust near the gates.
"They are definitely watching us."
"Let them look," Misha declared proudly, stepping back just enough to grab his hand and tug him toward the keep.
"They need to know who truly commands this empire anyway. Now, come along. We have a stress test to conduct."
Allowing himself to be dragged up the stone steps, Kane laughed aloud.
’Forget the elves,’ Kane realized, following his wife back into the stronghold.
’Surviving this place with these women is going to be my greatest challenge yet.’
They reached the upper corridors quickly. Misha practically shoved him through the bedroom doors, locking them with a sharp click of magic.
Sunlight streamed through the large windows, illuminating the tangled sheets they had shared just the night before.
"No blueprints today," Misha ordered, pushing him backward onto the edge of the mattress.

Standing over him, she quickly unlaced her morning gown, letting it pool around her ankles. Kane simply sat there, enjoying the view of his beautiful wife taking total control of the situation.
"No... Misha. Your heart is weak."
"My heart is fine. Do you not want to do it?"
"I am entirely at your mercy," Kane offered, resting his hands casually on his knees.
"Please be gentle with me. I am exhausted from managing the local economy."
"Liar," Misha giggled, crawling onto the bed and straddling his lap.
Burying his face in her neck, Kane kissed the soft skin right below her ear, earning a delightful shiver and a very real, breathless gasp.
"See?" Kane murmured against her pulse, his hands tracing a lazy path up her spine.
"You are just as loud as she is."
Misha gasped again as his fingers found a sensitive spot along her waist.
"I am an oracle, Kane. I am simply predicting how good this is going to feel."
"Show me the future, then," Kane challenged, rolling her onto her back and silencing any further arguments with a kiss that demanded her complete attention.
