Chapter 686: Chapter 654 Fang of the Wolf_1

Xu Dayuan continued:

"Mr. Hu has confirmed that the poisoning took place near the laboratory we discovered earlier, in the cafeteria of a seafood export factory. They treated it as food poisoning. In the hospital’s tests, they found toxins similar to those involved in Zhou Ning’s assassination attempt.

Fortunately, those workers, who eat seafood all year round, especially the scraps filtered out for export, already have similar toxins in their digestive tracts and livers. Even with a large dose ingested at once, they only suffered from diarrhea and vomiting without any severe consequences."

Tao Zhenshan rubbed his nose; although it was a very serious matter, he found it amusing for a moment. 𝘧𝘳𝘦ℯ𝓌𝘦𝒷𝘯𝑜𝑣𝘦𝓁.𝒸𝘰𝓂

"Indeed, Sapporo people live thinking they are quite refined, but in reality, they just lack resources. Otherwise, they wouldn’t have come up with those ideas. Who would want to live every day sitting on an earthquake belt, with the ground cracking and popping underneath them? Life wouldn’t be easy."

Zhou Ning thought for a moment and said.

"So what you’re saying is, Mr. Hu has now found solid evidence, and there are still samples from that poisoning incident preserved?"

Xu Dayuan snapped his fingers, waking up the two who were snoring thunderously. They rubbed their eyes and sat up to listen.

"You guessed right. Mr. Hu found the samples from that time, which means we now have both the recordings and the toxin samples in hand, and we even control some of the Liang family members. These people were originally involved in the Beishan Group and Guanghai Pharmaceuticals’ international economic crimes, but now it seems it’s not that simple. This so-called family is actually a group of Sapporo spies.

There’s more good news. Mr. Hu forwarded this: Dayao City’s Huang Youdao and Wu Chunming sent word that among the four people we listed, one from Dayao, Xu Liang, took a leave of absence. They got Xu Liang’s photo from the school, and he looks older in the picture. This person took a month off claiming to need surgery, but neither he nor his car is in Dayao City.

As for Sun Haitao from Qindao, they found his death record, dated January 27, 2013, the car destroyed with the body beyond recognition, with no family to claim him. It was the petrochemical company that sent someone to identify him. After confirmation, they only saw his work pass and ID, as the body was burned beyond recognition.

Therefore, Huang Youdao and the others suspect that these four individuals are actually just two people in disguise. Hence, they split into two teams: one went to Luxi Province, Pingjin City to catch Zhu Xingmin, and another went to Huining Province, Hesheng City, Pulan Town to capture Zhang Huiping. Both men were arrested, and they arrived in Qindao last night after seven."

At this point, Mr. Zhao leaned in, combing through his messy hair.

"Only these two were arrested? What about their families? They’re not all from Minjin, are they?"

Xu Dayuan nodded.

"Interrogations are ongoing. These two are tight-lipped, but what’s surprising is that both have many children, and DNA test results confirmed the children are indeed theirs. As for confessions, it’s just a matter of time. The two arrestees weren’t the least bit surprised."

Mr. Zhao blinked his small eyes.

"This is the best possible outcome. First, we’ll go take a look at Zhou Ning’s old family house, and later you guys can head to Ganzhou City Bureau."

Xu Dayuan raised his hand, stopping Mr. Zhao’s movement.

"Times have changed. We move together, as the safety factor is higher that way. As for those staying in the hotel, we’ll have Fang Dongsheng and his team pick them up later. We can’t afford even a slight mishap right now."

...

Twenty minutes later, they arrived at the demolished family building.

It was only half past five and Qindao was already bright, but in Ganzhou, it was still very dark, and everything around was silent, even the birds absent after the temperature drop.

After parking the car, they entered through a damaged section led by Mr. Zhao.

Everyone was extremely alert, especially Fang Mu and Tao Zhenshan. The main person they were protecting was Zhou Ning, along with their leader, and Mr. Zhao, who was the worst in shooting scores, kept scanning the surroundings with his eyes.

Entering the courtyard, Zhou Ning walked straight towards the building opposite the guardhouse. The house was dilapidated, but it seemed to have been vacated not long ago, so no scavengers had come to steal things, leaving windows, doors, and various objects intact.

On the second floor, they found the familiar yet more derelict iron door sealed with tape. The seal’s stamp belonged to Ganzhou City People’s Hospital, the date was not clear except for the year marked as 201— three digits, with paper so tattered it wasn’t from deliberate destruction but accumulated dust and dirt, indicating a year or two at most.

Zhou Ning put on gloves, pulled at the door, which remained firmly closed. After thinking, he reached into the crack, pulled the latch, and with a click, the door opened, revealing that the seal was still intact, clearly serving no purpose.

The inner wooden door had obviously been replaced. The yellow paint showed no charred scars from gunfire. Mr. Zhao gripped the spherical door knob and twisted slightly, and the door opened readily.

Zhou Ning took a deep breath, perhaps to ease his own tension, turned back to look at Xu Dayuan holding the LED light, and smiled:

"They say this house is haunted, but it seems it can stand open all night now. Let’s go in and have a look."

Mr. Zhao adjusted his mask and gear and entered the room with his flashlight raised high.

Zhou Ning bit down hard on his teeth. As he stepped into the room, the layout from years before flashed in his mind: the white shoe cabinet at the entrance, topped with a plastic silk flower, next to which stood a porcelain doll holding a ceramic bowl, where the family keys were kept.
