Chapter 517: Chapter 488: Mental Illness_1
Zhu Xiaoming lifted both of his arms, as if he thought for a moment before speaking:
"On the inside of my left arm, close to the armpit, the lower cut is quite deep, I saw that piece of flesh was almost falling off."
Liu Yufei waved her hand, and Mr. Shan on the other side let out a sigh of relief. He made an OK gesture with his hand, and at that moment, he was printing quickly, checking it over, and passing the transcript to Fang Mu. Fang Mu placed the transcript and a pen in Zhu Xiaoming’s hands, while holding an inkpad in his other hand.
"Check it over, if there are no mistakes sign your name and make a fingerprint."
Zhu Xiaoming glanced at it, having no intention of studying the content carefully, he looked at Fang Mu with some concern.
"I didn’t kill anyone, I won’t be convicted, right?"
Fang Mu shook his head, and upon seeing this gesture, Zhu Xiaoming smiled, hastily signed his name and made his fingerprint. Fang Mu said leisurely:
"We are just criminal police, responsible for investigating the course of the incident, collecting relevant evidence, and ensuring that each suspect is apprehended without omission, and that we don’t wrongfully accuse an innocent person. Whether or not you will be convicted is up to the judge. Someone, come in and take him away. Let’s move on to the next one."
Zhu Xiaoming was dumbfounded, not knowing what to say, and even forgot to resist.
Two criminal police officers came in and put handcuffs on him. Then he began to understand the situation—it was not a scenario where explaining everything meant he could go home. His eyes became bloodshot, and tears and snot streamed down his face. He almost looked like he was having a drug withdrawal.
"No, don’t drag me away, I want to go home, I want to go home!"
Fang Mu gestured with his hand and glanced outside. As Zhu Xiaoming was led away, Zhu Xiaoguang was brought in. Seeing Zhu Xiaoming’s frantic and panicked state, Zhu Xiaoguang was also dumbfounded, filled with fear that had reached its peak.
The interrogation room was being arranged for a new occupant, and the door to the observation room swung open as several people walked in. Seeing who it was, Zhou Ning quickly got up and tapped Mr. Zhao to move over and make room.
"Mr. Hu, what brings you here?"
Hu Guangjian nodded and gestured towards the people behind him.
"You’ve worked hard. With such a big case, how could we not come over? You all go on with your tasks. That so-called accident-prone station chief, as well as Zhang Xiangguo and that forensic doctor, should all be interrogated thoroughly. By tomorrow morning, I want to see the materials."
Zhou Ning recognized those people; they were leaders from the city bureau, and one of them was the head of the inspection brigade. Knowing his superiors had come over like this, Zhou Ning felt reassured. Evidently, Mr. Hu had already communicated with the city leaders, and they were tackling the issue from multiple angles. The people currently present were just a part of the team.
"Mr. Zhao, could you prepare a copy of the materials we have organized? And the evidence secured by Mr. Qu should be copied for the leaders."
Having said that, everyone got busy. Taking the materials, they left swiftly, leaving only Hu Guangjian behind. Mr. Zhao stood behind him, offering his seat to Hu Guangjian who sat down.
"Tell me, how is the progress?"
Zhou Ning swiftly briefed him and then looked towards the interrogation room.
"We are currently interrogating Zhu Xiaoguang, the second son of the Zhu Family. Based on the testimony just given by Zhu Xiaoming, this Zhu Xiaoguang is also an accessory. I was just about to have Mr. Zhao check Liu Nian’s arm when you arrived."
Hu Guangjian nodded.
"To have reached this point in such a short time, you’ve done more than I could have imagined. Go ahead, Mr. Qu, you need to compare the bite marks, right? Have the impressions of the deceased’s teeth been made?"
Mr. Qu raised his hand and quickly spoke up:
"We have the scanned images and pictures of the wounds. We can start the comparison. The impression of the bite marks can be taken later. This method has higher accuracy because we can create a three-dimensional form."
Hu Guangjian let out a long sigh and gestured with his hand. Mr. Zhao quickly took Mr. Sun to take the photographs. With the leadership present, they were all nervous.
After glancing inside the interrogation room, Hu Guangjian spoke:
"Yesterday after Yufei reported, we began our investigation and discovered that several pending petitions had all been suppressed by Zhang Xiangguo. This was negligence on my part. It seems that our previous disciplinary work was not thorough. I have already reported this to the city leaders, and comrades from the Discipline Inspection Commission have taken Zhang Xianghua away for investigation."
Zhou Ning had an epiphany. It seemed that after arranging things with the high-ranking officials, they had come over. As he was thinking, Mr. Zhao pushed the door in, holding the camera up to Mr. Qu. Hu Guangjian stood up, giving them space, which left Mr. Zhao utterly confused.
"You should stay seated, sir. Suddenly standing up like this is quite startling!"
Hu Guangjian slapped Mr. Zhao on the back, making his flesh tremble.
"Mr. Zhao, you’ve been so busy these days, how have you not lost any weight?"
Mr. Zhao grimaced, looking grievously at Hu Guangjian.
"Boss, that’s a low blow, isn’t it? I’ve been so stressed that I can’t eat, instead I’m drinking more water, and that’s making me swollen."
Everyone couldn’t help it and burst into laughter.
Meanwhile, Mr. Qu had already imported the photographs taken by Mr. Zhao into the computer and began comparing them with the previously collected 3D images of the victim’s teeth. After a few adjustments, the 3D image was resized to match the scale of the photograph, becoming a cross-sectional image of the teeth in biting position.
The two images slowly merged, their position, size, and depth matched exactly, fitting together perfectly.
Mr. Zhao swung his fist excitedly, his face lit up with excitement. Although it was just a comparison of photographs, everyone was already certain that these were the bite marks inflicted by He Jiahong.
"The tooth marks are an exact match."
Zhou Ning, with his arms crossed, didn’t share the same excitement. The bite marks had not been sutured; the wounds showed a slight everted margin, and the biting pattern position was overall raised above the skin. This condition indicated that after being bitten, no suturing treatment had been done.
It should be noted that bite wounds are very difficult to heal. Unlike cuts, bite wounds nearly always have tissue deficits, and since the wounds can’t be completely realigned, they tend to heal more easily.
"It seems that he didn’t go to the hospital for wound cleaning and treatment after the bite. This makes it very difficult to prove when Liu Nian was injured. Although we can prove that it was a bite from He Jiahong, we cannot prove that it happened at the time of the crime."
Hu Guangjian heard Zhou Ning analyze the case so calmly for the first time, nodding constantly.
"If he intends to deny the murder and push the mastermind role onto those two brothers, this will indeed be hard to prove. If we can’t provide concrete evidence and the three of them keep shifting the blame onto each other, this case could drag on for two or three years with just a bit of new evidence surfacing now and then.
Hence, send someone to the school now to find students, preferably those who shared a dorm room with Liu Nian. Without Liu Kai’s threats and bribes, these people might tell the truth, proving whether Liu Nian was in the dormitory on the night of March 27th and whether he returned with injuries."
Zhou Ning glanced around the observation room where only Mr. Qu, Mr. Zhao, Mr. Sun, and Mr. Yang were present. It seemed easy to talk about going to No. 5 High School, but could they really be the ones to carry out the investigation?
Before Zhou Ning could speak, Hu Guangjian had already called Liu Yufei’s phone, and after a moment, Liu Yufei answered.
"Mr. Hu, have you arrived?"
"Yes, I’m in the adjacent observation room. Just let that kid surnamed Fang handle the interrogation. I think he’s doing fine. Step out for a moment; we have some tasks to arrange."
Liu Yufei had already hung up the phone and gestured to Fang Mu before leaving the room directly. Zhu Xiaodong, who was sitting on the interrogation chair, looked confused. Seeing Liu Yufei leave, he quickly grabbed Fang Mu’s hand.
"Officer, I’ll talk, just don’t switch interrogators, I’ll tell you everything!"
Fang Mu shook off his hand and gave him a nod of his chin.
"Then talk. I advise you to tell the truth. I can clearly tell you that your youngest brother has already confessed to the process, and even the video of you all chasing He Jiahong near the pond, we have it under control.
People have seen and heard you dragging He Jiahong in the corridor; we also have a witness. If you lie, there’s no need to waste time. I’ll just switch to the next person. Understand?"
Zhu Xiaoguang nodded hurriedly, and proceeded to explain the process step by step, guided by Fang Mu, which was not much different from what Zhu Xiaoming had narrated.
Zhou Ning breathed a sigh of relief; it seemed that Zhu Xiaoming hadn’t lied.
By this time, Liu Yufei had already finished communicating with Mr. Hu, and she called Mr. Sun and Mr. Yang to leave with her. Zhou Ning didn’t ask further, as there were not many people available at the moment.
Soon after, Liu Yufei returned.
"Mr. Hu, is there any news from Director Zheng Tianlong and Deputy Director Mr. Zhong?"
Hu Guangjian nodded.
"I know what you want to ask; don’t beat around the bush with me. The Discipline Inspection Commission’s people arrived even before us. Zhang Xiangguo and Zhang Xianghua are both over there now. This time, they’ll conduct a thorough investigation. Don’t interrogate one by one like this; just open a couple more interrogation rooms and speed up the process."
Liu Yufei shook her head.
"We can only open two more interrogation rooms at most. The remaining people, none of them are easy to deal with. That coach Liu Kai managed to deceive his wife and even swapped their child, and he kept it a secret in his heart for eighteen years. You don’t need me to tell you how deep his scheming is, right? The rest are similar; only Fang Mu and I can handle them."
Hu Guangjian nodded in agreement. He glanced towards the next room where the interrogation was nearing its end.
"This one’s starting to sign as well. Call Liu Nian over then. Both suspects said he’s crazy and acts without considering the consequences, so let’s hear it for ourselves."
Liu Yufei hurried to make arrangements. Moments later, Zhu Xiaoguang was led out of the doorway, while Liu Nian was dragged by the police to stand at the entrance. As the interrogation room door opened, Liu Nian sharply lifted his leg and kicked Zhu Xiaoguang in the abdomen. Zhu Xiaoguang flew backwards three or four meters before crashing to the ground with a smack; the force behind the kick was considerable.
Fang Mu jumped on him along with the two police officers, pinning Liu Nian to the ground.
Even with his hands cuffed behind his back and in agonizing pain, he still gritted his teeth, glaring at Zhu Xiaoguang with a look that was as ferocious as a demon from hell.
"You’ve got some nerve. I just heard what you said, didn’t I? You’re pinning all the blame on me, saying I’m mentally ill, right? Should I thank you for branding me as mentally ill so that I can be exempt from legal responsibility? You all can rot in prison, not one less."
Liu Yufei approached, grabbed the cuff of Liu Nian’s handcuffed wrist, kicked him behind one of his knees, and pulled up on the cuff in the opposite direction. This action caused Liu Nian to let out a piercing scream of pain.
"Didn’t you hear the police say to shut up? How can you be so careless, you can’t even stand properly. Quickly take the other person away."
Fang Mu personally locked Liu Nian in the interrogation chair and checked it thoroughly after securing him. The chair seemed a bit too small for Liu Nian; there wasn’t even enough room to stretch out his legs.
Liu Yufei glanced at the chair before she arranged for someone to go to No. 5 High School and went to interrogate Liu Kai herself.
Once Zhu Xiaodong was seated, Fang Mu approached with a report in his hand, lifting the cover and the first page to show Liu Nian.
"What was supposed to be a routine screen turned out to be an unexpected discovery for us. This is the DNA test report of you and your parents. Your biological father is indeed your father, but your biological mother is not Zhang Xiangfen. What do you think your mother would do if she knew about this? Do you want to take a closer look at the report?"
