Chapter 337: Chapter 326: Resuscitation Failed_1

This reaction made Liu Yongxin laugh.

"I’ve noticed that since you came to the brigade, Director Xu’s interrogation methods have changed a lot. Now he’s completely unorthodox, but it has allowed him to control the killer’s mind tightly. Bai Xiangrong is just a college junior; no matter how scheming he is, he can’t outwit an old fox."

Zhou Ning also laughed along.

"We are all exhausted. Director Xu is hoping for a swift and decisive resolution. Besides, once Bai Xiangrong confesses, all of Zhu Kelin’s anger will be directed towards Bai Xinfeng and his father. Then there will be no more obstacles to this case."

Liu Yongxin nodded and stretched lazily in agreement.

"My apprentice is right; indeed, we’re all worn out. Lengthening the battle is bad for everyone, and it could also lead to unforeseen problems. Let those rich people fight amongst themselves."

Both of them laughed, and Zhou Ning checked his phone. Mr. Zhao and his team had been gone for quite some time without any update, leaving Zhou Ning wondering whether Mr. Qu’s end was delayed or if they were held up getting food, and then he dialed Mr. Zhao’s number.

"Mr. Qu hasn’t sorted it out yet?"

"I’ve tried many times, but the phone is completely destroyed. It smokes as soon as it’s connected to power. However, Mr. Qu is cracking their QQ accounts, and the content has been compiled. It will be sent to Mrs. Fei shortly, and it’s quite substantial. I’ll forward a copy to you in a bit."

After hanging up the phone, he looked back into the interrogation room. Liu Yufei’s computer chimed cooperatively, signaling received data. She showed it to Xu Dayuan and printed it out.

Bai Xiangrong, sitting in the interrogation chair, didn’t hesitate this time and began confessing.

"I’ve liked Zhu Yunping since I was a child. However, I also knew that this kind of cross-gender affection was not accepted by society, so I never admitted it. After all, we grew up together, and he has always treated me as his best buddy and friend. I’ve been by his side to do whatever he wanted."

"Be it skipping classes, chasing girls, consuming recklessly, or throwing all sorts of parties, anything you can or can’t think of, I was willing to indulge with him. When he took drugs, he would sometimes go wild with me. Having him was all I needed to be content."

"But everything changed when he met Fu Wendan. Zhu Yunping actually told me he had fallen in love with her, saying she was different from anyone he had met before. Although she seemed like just a pretty face, she was actually very proactive."

"Fu Wendan, striving for a better life, worked multiple jobs and didn’t accept a penny from Zhu Yunping. She just wanted to date him. That moved him, and Zhu Yunping wanted to change his ways, not wanting to continue in such disorder. He said he wouldn’t touch me anymore but still considered me a good brother."

"Is that what I wanted? If I couldn’t have what I wanted, then I would destroy it. That was Zhu Yunping’s teaching since we were kids. If he wanted something, he had to have it; if he couldn’t, he’d have someone destroy it. I could do the same."

"I told him that since that’s the case, we should go wild one last time and quit messing with this nonsense. I said I would help him quit drugs. When I said this, Zhu Yunping was deeply moved and hugged me, crying."

"I had been planning for a long time and called over a classmate from the sports academy. The three of us were quite close. Last night, we went to Cloud Top Guesthouse and played all night. While on me, he actually called out Fu Wendan’s name. Do you know what it feels like to be mocked like that?"

"When dawn came, Zhu Yunping fell asleep. I used his phone to contact Fu Wendan, telling her that Zhu Yunping was very drunk and kept vomiting, hoping she would come over to take care of him. Fu Wendan agreed, and I gave her the address, then I dumped Zhu Yunping in another suite."

"Fu Wendan arrived soon, and she didn’t like me; I could see it in her eyes. I handed her a bottle of water because she must have been thirsty from the rush, and she drank it without suspicion. Then, I took her to Zhang Zhigao’s room."

"Of course, I had already fed Zhang Zhigao a blue pill, and he had been moaning under the blankets for a long while. Fu Wendan was caught off guard, but as soon as she entered the room, she felt something was wrong. She tried to leave, but how could I let her go? I injected her neck directly."

"Someone who had never touched that stuff, getting a dose like that, it’s indescribable to those who haven’t experienced it; they simply can’t resist. Seeing someone come in, what could Zhang Zhigao know? He grabbed Fu Wendan and got down to business."

"After they were done, I went in to check. To my surprise, that guy had actually used protection, but it didn’t matter much. Seeing Fu Wendan unconscious and having thrown up all over, my hatred overflowed."

"I roughly dug into Fu Wendan there and even bit her a few times. I wanted to do more, but I was too flaccid, so I just poked around her mouth, vented my anger, threw her clothes on in disarray, put on Zhu Yunping’s cap, dodged the cameras, and took her to the car."

At this point, Bai Xiangrong paused. Xu Dayuan, with his arms crossed, stared at Bai Xiangrong without urging him to continue, showing no interest and asking no further questions. His gaze seemed like his patience was running out and he might leave at any second.

Bai Xiangrong took a deep breath and shifted his position.

"I stuffed Zhang Zhigao’s used condom into the crack of the car door on the driver’s side, put a seatbelt on Fu Wendan, and after everything was arranged, I went to open the trunk. Wearing gloves, I strangled Fu Wendan’s neck with fishing line. But I didn’t check her breathing; I didn’t know if she was dead. I wrapped a scarf around her neck."

"After all this, I was somewhat scared, and I discarded the gloves and other items in a panic. I came back through the stairwell, going straight up to the eighth floor. I don’t know what time it was, just that I could smell the breakfast from the second floor’s restaurant. As soon as I got up, I went to wake Zhu Yunping."

"Zhu Yunping was still high from last night, and he was a bit groggy when I woke him. I had him drink some water, gave him the car keys, and told him Fu Wendan had said she was waiting in the car and that he should hurry down to meet her for breakfast."

Zhu Yunping laughed and ran, but I grabbed him, telling him to take the stairwell instead so the front desk people wouldn’t bombard us with questions. Besides, Fu Wendan doesn’t like the breakfast here. Hearing this, Zhu Yunping put on his coat and dashed down the stairwell.

I watched from the stairwell window as he went to the car. My heart was about to leap to my throat, but Zhu Yunping didn’t linger long. The car roared off, and I knew he had taken too much last night, twice his usual dose. How could he possibly handle that rush so early in the morning?

Back in the room, I thought about leaving, but I figured if anything happened to Zhu Yunping, they would naturally contact the school. I left a note for the instructor, saying we were at the Cloud Top Guesthouse. I guess he didn’t find it because you guys took forever to come, and I really panicked. I realized I couldn’t keep the phone.

So I broke the SIM card and threw all four of our phones from the eighth floor to the small road opposite. Around one, Zhang Zhigao woke up, and seeing that I couldn’t let this give us away, I hurriedly gave him another shot. He kept moaning, but I knew he wouldn’t die.

I flushed all the remaining drugs down the toilet, handcuffed myself in the bathroom, and soon after, you all arrived. Actually, when I cuffed myself next to the bathtub, I regretted it because that’s when I discovered the wound on my finger, but I don’t know when it happened."

Zhou Ning’s brow furrowed, lacking the ease of Liu Yongxin at his side. Although Bai Xiangrong’s confession was comprehensive, explaining the absence of their images from the surveillance footage,

But waking Zhu Yunping and sending him off with Fu Wendan while still in an excited state was not intending to let him live. After all, right out of the Cloud Top Guesthouse, one could directly get onto the overpass or the elevated expressway.

The minimum speed limit there is 60 km/h, not exceeding 120 km/h, and especially since Zhu Yunping’s car was a sports car, its windshield wouldn’t make you feel like you were driving fast or easily perceive the speed. So when Bai Xiangrong sent Zhu Yunping off in the car, he didn’t plan on him surviving.

Xu Dayuan shook his head.

"You’ve explained this much, yet you still want to argue? You knew perfectly well if he had overdosed and what the effects were. You hoped he’d die in a traffic accident, with the car and its driver destroyed. Who would then pay attention to Fu Wendan in the passenger seat?

If you were from an ordinary family, this might still be plausible. But your father is Bai Xinfeng, who followed Zhu Kelin to obtain Haichanglong out of nothing. All this isn’t as simple as you’ve put it — not just a love gone sour or an affection for Zhu Yunping. I think you desire Haichanglong even more and want Zhu Yunping’s life. Alright, sign the statement."

Xu Dayuan stood up and ignored Bai Xiangrong’s cries for attention.

The testimony obtained was sufficient to fit all the evidence. Killing Fu Wendan and the premeditated unsuccessful attempt on Zhu Yunping’s life left him without a defense. As for the rest, Xu Dayuan didn’t need to judge.

Zhu Kelin had grown Haichanglong’s strength, and he was no fool.

Just as Xu Dayuan was heading to the observation room, Zhou Ning’s phone rang, alerting him to four new emails.

Mr. Zhao rushed in energetically, with Mr. Yang following behind holding lots of takeout containers. It looked like lunch was ready. Seeing the expressions on everyone’s faces, Mr. Zhao blinked.

"What’s with that look? Did Bai Xiangrong not confess?"

Xu Dayuan didn’t respond. Despite obtaining Bai Xiangrong’s confession after the interrogation, he still felt somewhat irked, though he couldn’t quite pinpoint why.

Liu Yongxin poked Mr. Zhao and tilted his chin toward Yang Xuetong, who was behind him.

"Take the food to the office, then print out the reports. Director Zhou just got some emails; we’ll have a look at the report. If there’s no issue, we can wrap up and finish compiling all the materials."

Yang Xuetong quickly turned and ran, while Mr. Zhao sighed in relief and bumped Xu Dayuan’s shoulder.

"Come on, boss, the case is over, why the long face? We’re just cops, tasked with recreating the crime and finding all the evidence to prove the murderer’s acts. The rest is out of our hands. If you let every case get you down, there’s no point in living."

Xu Dayuan didn’t kick Mr. Zhao, while Zhou Ning nodded on the side.

"Right now, I just want to know the test results. I haven’t had a proper meal all day, and I’m starving."

Xu Dayuan patted Zhou Ning’s shoulder, knowing everyone was trying to cheer him up. But just as Zhou Ning finished speaking, Xu Dayuan’s phone rang. It was Mr. Bai, who had been left at the hospital. Could it be that Zhu Yunping’s surgery was done?

"What’s happened?"

"Director Xu, the doctor just came out to say that Zhang Zhigao didn’t make it through resuscitation and has died."
