Chapter 326: Chapter 317: The Supercar with a Golden Egg Yolk_1

"First go to the city bureau, I need to meet with Mr. Hu and talk about the details of this case. As for the remaining backlog of cases, I see several that resemble the previous white bone case in the Qidong District well, where the identities of the victims couldn’t be determined. Clear up some of this work these days; isn’t your software also due for an upgrade?"

Zhou Ning nodded.

This truly required a trip to Qin University. There were many problems found during the application of the software. As Mr. Qu had said, making changes would be somewhat troublesome, but it wasn’t impossible. If these could be improved, then the software’s application could be expanded further, such as in the field of archaeology.

"That’s good, then let’s head back to the city bureau first."

Liu Yufei edged closer.

"Can we take a few days off?"

Xu Dayuan smiled; Liu Yufei rarely initiated such requests. But everyone truly was exhausted recently. It had been less than two weeks, but the non-stop work during this period was too much even for an iron body, especially since Liu Yufei and the others had also been to Hushang City.

"Take a week off."

Just as he finished speaking, the car made a sharp turn, and everyone lurched to the left side.

Zhou Ning’s face was pressed against the car window, and from the corner of his eye, he saw a car whooshing past, cutting off their Iveco. The other car was turning its wheels one moment and slamming on the brakes the next, clearly engaging in malicious road rage.

The police car that was following them was a bit far from their Iveco, but at this point, it caught up as well. Mr. Zhao’s anger flared instantly.

"Damn it, is this how you welcome me back to Qindao? Come on, Mr. Yang, come here and film this for me. Let’s see how arrogant this guy can get. He just crossed over three lanes, from the very left to the right, without even signaling."

With the hazard lights flashing, Mr. Zhao slowed down the car, and Yang Xuetong quickly grabbed the camera, sitting next to Mr. Zhao.

As Mr. Zhao slowed down, the car in front also reduced speed, provocatively weaving left and right.

Zhou Ning looked up at the car ahead; he recognized the brand, having seen it during his long search for a car and heard about it from Mr. Zhao—it was a Lexus LFA Nurburgring, in egg-yolk yellow with three exhaust pipes piled in the middle. It looked great indeed, but the driver’s manners were not so fine. Mr. Zhao shouted to the car behind them.

"Check the plate on that car. The driver is not right; it’s not just the road rage—what’s he so fired up about when I have not even provoked him?"

Xu Dayuan threw his police device to Mr. Qu, who quickly searched, being fast with his hands, and as soon as he saw the information, he said urgently:

"The vehicle registration shows that the owner is named Zhu Yunping, with the ID number..."

That name startled everyone. They had just investigated a beheading serial killing, and Zhu Yufen’s eldest son was named Zhu Yunping. Could it really be such a coincidence in this world?

At that moment, the window of the Lexus LFA rolled down, and the driver flipped Mr. Zhao off before slamming on the brakes. Mr. Zhao, prepared for this, flashed his lights and steered into the middle lane.

The following police car, seeing the warning, also changed lanes. Seeing that he hadn’t managed to cut off Mr. Zhao and now stopping at the intersection, the driver became angry, rolling down all the car’s windows as a young lad poked his head out, unleashing a tirade at Mr. Zhao.

"Idiot, think you can play chicken with me driving an Iveco, huh? I’ll show you what kind of skills the young master has! A life not spent following me is a dog’s life!"

After his outburst, he didn’t even roll up the window. As the traffic light countdown reached three seconds, he floored the accelerator and shot out, just as a ready-mix concrete truck was crossing the intersection from the left side—at a considerable speed to beat the light change.

Mr. Zhao reached out to shout something but it was too late; the two vehicles collided with a bang.

The egg-yolk-yellow Lexus LFA spun like a top and was knocked into the air sideways, rotating twice before landing in its original spot. The impact caused the ready-mix concrete truck to twist toward the other side, and the rotating drum body, affected by the collision, came loose from the truck and rolled down.

Mr. Zhao reacted swiftly, driving the vehicle toward the right lane to avoid the debris, and the vehicles behind followed suit.

The drum body slid and slammed onto the ground, spilling concrete along with it, but it stopped when it hit the guardrail near where Zhou Ning and his group had just been.

Yang Xuetong, with the camera in his hands, pointed at the scene in front of him, speechless for a moment.

Zhou Ning looked over to see that the front of the ready-mix truck, due to the excessive twist, had flipped over and crashed down onto the body of the Lexus LFA below, with plumes of white smoke rising from the vehicle.

Xu Dayuan raised his voice.

"Zhou Ning, call the police and also get an ambulance here, 120. Everyone from the forensic and lab team stay in the car until I give the order. The brigade people, follow me to inspect the situation."

Zhou Ning knew he couldn’t argue with Xu Dayuan and quickly admonished him:

"Director Xu, just check and don’t rush; be sure to stay safe!"

Xu Dayuan nodded, then hurried out of the car. Zhou Ning quickly dialed the number and handed the phone to Mr. Zhao, who certainly knew the area better. Looking at Liu Yongxin getting out of the car, Zhou Ning promptly stopped him.

"Master, don’t rush. I’ll go down and check once I’ve reported the accident."

Liu Yongxin waved his hand dismissively.

"Don’t worry, I’m not going up there, just checking to see where we are."

Mr. Zhao also got out of the car but didn’t let Zhu Xingxing and the others follow. He handed his phone to Zhou Ning.

"This is the intersection of Tongan Road and Shiling Road in Tongshan District, just over a kilometer away from the Tongshan District Traffic Police Brigade. Someone will be here soon, and I’ve also called 119. I’m just worried the driver of the vehicle is trapped; I didn’t see Director Xu and the others do anything except stand around."

Zhou Ning waved his hand.

"Let’s go over and look. Zhu Xingxing, Sun Gaotie, and Mr. Qu are in the car."

As they said this, they sprinted toward the scene. The car that was smoking just now wasn’t smoking anymore. Getting closer, they saw Liu Yufei holding a fire extinguisher—perhaps she had put out a small flame. Mrs. Fei indeed was Mrs. Fei.

Approaching the scene revealed how horrific it was. The concrete mixer’s front was twisted and smashed onto the Lexus, and the Lexus itself, utterly distorted from the earlier rollover, had its metal parts intertwined with the concrete mixer’s—you couldn’t tell where one ended and the other began.

The cabin of the concrete mixer had completely caved in, the glass shattered from the collapse, and the driver was invisible, only his continuous shrieks resounding—a heart-wrenching howl that raised goosebumps on those who heard it.

Mr. Zhao, tiptoeing, careful not to step on any part of the wreckage, supported Zhou Ning’s shoulder and jumped up to look, his face turning pale.

"Damn it, the person is trapped. The steering wheel is flipped down, pinning the person directly under the seat, and the gear stick is stuck in his chest."

Zhou Ning didn’t speak; a conscious victim was actually a good sign, especially considering Zhu Yunping in the Lexus below showed no sign of life at all. Just then, the sound of police sirens and ambulance calls rose.

Several vehicles pulled to a stop, and a swarm of people rushed out: medical personnel, traffic police, and firefighters. Seeing the responsible person from Xu Dayuan’s traffic police team, they paused and saluted Xu Dayuan.

"Director Xu, what are you doing here?"

Liu Yufei cast a glance at the man and gestured to the firefighters.

"There’s a driver in the concrete mixer, constantly screaming in pain, trapped by the steering wheel, the gear stick stabbed into his chest, and there are two people in the Lexus. There was no response when we called out. We checked the information; the Lexus belongs to Zhu Yunping, the driver himself. As for the female passenger, we don’t know her information."

After that, the firefighters and traffic police approached to assess the force on the vehicles and discuss rescue plans. Xu Dayuan had already briefed him about the incident, especially introducing the Lexus driver’s connection to a previous case. The Traffic Police Brigade quickly nodded.

"Director Xu, don’t worry, we’ll handle it right away, we’ll do our best to rescue."

Xu Dayuan and others stepped back to make way for the firefighters and traffic police. With professional tools in place and a rescue plan settled, the pace picked up. Paramedics intermittently climbed up to give the concrete mixer’s driver IV fluids, as the Lexus below couldn’t be reached without moving the concrete mixer first.

Just then, groaning emanated from below; the Lexus driver woke up. Whether it was delirium from severe blood loss or he was just in a crazed state, he shouted out:

"Stupid cops, can’t you see me here? Save me first, I’m dying here. I’ll give you money, is a million each enough?"

His shouts paused all sound at the scene for a moment. Paramedics stepped forward, while Zhou Ning shifted his view, as a part of the concrete mixer was cut away, revealing some of the Lexus’s interior.

The car was completely crushed; Zhu Yunping’s lower body was not visible, his chest trapped by the steering wheel, blood gushing from his head, and with every roar, blood spewed from his mouth. Zhou Ning squinted his eyes.

This man had serious lung damage, likely rib and sternum injuries that had punctured the lung lobes. As for the lower limbs, the situation was probably even worse.

The paramedics administered IVs, which he tore off. His only mobile left arm kept hitting anyone who got close and rattling the steering wheel and car door.

Xu Dayuan had approached, his shout making everyone around shiver.

"Zhu Yunping, shut your mouth. If you want to live, stay still. If you disrupt the rescue workers, it’ll only delay your rescue time. If your legs can’t be saved, you’ll be useless. Don’t talk about who your dad is; with no legs, let’s see how arrogant you can be."

With that shout, Zhu Yunping froze and stopped struggling, which also sped up the rescue efforts. The steering wheel was cut, and he was pulled out, without screaming in pain.

Glancing at his legs, which the paramedics were carrying, they were fractured in multiple places, and despite the contortions, Zhu Yunping didn’t yell. There were traces of waste beneath his trousers, clearly indicating this was more than just a lower limb injury—likely his spine, lumbar or thoracic, was damaged.

Zhou Ning shook his head as the ambulance roared away. Xu Dayuan gestured to Zhou Ning, who quickly approached.

"The traffic police want you to take a look at the female in the passenger seat, to see if she is already dead."

Zhou Ning stepped forward, peeked through the space where Zhu Yunping was rescued, and saw the woman in the passenger seat. There were shards of glass and several metal rods embedded in her neck, colored like parts of the concrete mixer’s front, her pupils wide and no longer breathing.

Blood had splattered all over the passenger and driver seats, everywhere. Just as Zhou Ning was about to stand up, he noticed ligature marks around the edge of the woman’s neck wound.

Zhou Ning sighed.

"It looks like this can’t be left to Mr. Pang. Take her back, she was dead before the car accident!"

"What."
