Chapter 941: Chapter 941: A Family_Part 1

Hannah curled her lips and chuckled softly, "Are you here begging for shelter after winding up on the streets?"

George River’s gaze settled on Hannah’s eyes, intently observing her for a while before speaking again, "May I come in and sit for a while?" 𝗳𝚛𝚎𝚎𝘄𝕖𝕓𝕟𝕠𝚟𝚎𝕝.𝗰𝕠𝐦

The room was very warm, unlike the biting cold wind outside. Hannah was wearing only a long coat loosely tied at the waist, her clean, bare face still pure and beautiful.

Hearing George River’s words, Hannah made no move, only responded faintly, "George River, you know it’s not right."

George River’s hands slipped into his pockets, slowly clenched into fists, his smile tinged with self-mockery and full of bitterness, yet he again pretended not to care, "Yes, indeed it’s not suitable anymore."

In the quiet corridor, warmth filled the room, but outside, the cold was piercing.

The chill seemed to bore into one’s bones, tightly wrapping around the heart, turning the wind into blades that slashed one’s body with countless injuries.

Yet she, Hannah, had a smile blooming like flowers, like the gentle babbling of spring water.

With his hands stiff and frozen, George River looked down, reining in his smile, then said earnestly, "Hannah Winter, if I hadn’t broken up with you back then, what do you think we would be like now?"

This scene had haunted his dreams countless times at night, where he let go of his so-called obsessions and just peacefully guarded the person by his side who loved him.

"There is no ’if,’" Hannah met his gaze, saw the regret in his eyes, thought for a moment, and suddenly smiled again, "But perhaps, you would have had a ’home.’"

"Home..."

George River murmured as if lost in some beautiful fantasy, but it was only for a moment before he started laughing again.

Yet that laughter was laced with pain and regret.

Hannah saw through the thoughts in George River’s heart. She gave him the answer he wanted.

If in the original course of events George River really had done as he said, not abandoning Hannah Winter, and let go of Tiffany Lynch, perhaps they could have started a new family together.

Hannah Winter’s character might have made her a gentle wife, a good mother.

But how long would such so-called love, such a so-called home, have lasted?

Their social status had always been unequal, with George River being too self-centered and Hannah too timid.

People always want to regain something after they’ve lost it, never satisfied.

Love can be eroded over time until nothing is left, let alone such complex feelings based on regret.

Perhaps at that time George River might have thought, if he had chosen Tiffany Lynch in the beginning, would it have been better.

But to all this, George River wouldn’t think that way; he was simply reinforcing an idea in his mind, ultimately making a decision.

"Hannah, you’re not wrong," George River said with a particularly calm smile, his eyes slightly dim as he stepped forward, "We indeed should have a ’home.’"

A home of our own.

That was the real answer he sought.

Hannah’s expression remained unchanged, her gaze drifting past George River to the closed door across from them. She paused for a second, then withdrew her gaze and looked at the man before her with a smile.

"George River, whether you acknowledge it or not, I am already your uncle’s woman, your little auntie."

Her words pierced George River’s heart, but he only sneered, "Arnold Simmons just took advantage of someone in distress. If I hadn’t broken up with you back then, how would he have had a chance?"

Perhaps it’s not only girls who dream of princesses; boys too have dreams of being princes rescuing the princess in times of crisis.
