Chapter 892: Chapter 892 How Can It Be_1
Tiffany Lynch was stunned, her eyes widening with some panic, "What... what do you mean?"
At this moment, the two of them bore no trace of having once deeply loved each other; even childhood sweethearts couldn’t withstand the ravages of time and the shifts of circumstance—things and people change.
George River sneered, as if thinking of something, then suddenly asked, "Tiffany Lynch, if you had come back to the country and I was just a poor boy with no money, would you still have loved me? If I couldn’t bring you any benefits or resources, would you still say you love me?"
At his words, Tiffany Lynch’s face turned deathly pale as she looked at the man in front of her as if he were a stranger, the past where she would coyly snuggle in his arms seeming like an illusion.
She instinctively stepped back, wanting to retort, but found she could say nothing.
There was no other reason.
What George River said was indeed true.
After her family went bankrupt, she had a rude awakening; she yearned for a life of luxury and to be above others, not to be someone who’s just concerned with life’s mundane necessities.
She did love George River, but that love was tainted with calculation.
The same was true for Jimmy Simmons.
George River twisted his mouth, his gaze upon Tiffany Lynch turning icy cold, "It seems I was wrong about you, you’re nothing more."
Having her true self exposed by someone who once adored her left Tiffany Lynch feeling both furious and embarrassed, George River’s words shattering her last facade.
"George River, you bastard!" Tiffany Lynch, momentarily dazed watching the man smile coldly at her, raised her hand to strike him.
But before her palm could fall, her wrist was tightly grasped.
It was a grip so strong it almost crushed her bones, causing Tiffany Lynch’s face to contort in pain.
George River, however, remained indifferent, showing none of the tenderness he once had for Tiffany Lynch, flinging her hand away fiercely, "Since you’ve chosen Jimmy Simmons, don’t flaunt yourself in front of me anymore. Hannah was right, I was blind back then."
Tiffany Lynch nearly fell to the ground due to the force of his shove, but ended up awkwardly steadying herself against a chair. Yet the man’s words struck her like hail, heavily and relentlessly.
"How can you treat me like this?"
Regaining her senses, she trembled all over, her face etched with disbelief—George River had actually raised his hand to her!
George River’s expression was cold and merciless, reminiscent of the way he had discarded Hannah Winter back then.
This scene replaying, Tiffany Lynch found it unbearable.
She had thought that even if they broke up, George River wouldn’t be so heartless towards her.
But reality slapped her hard across the face, her cheeks already streaked with tears.
Meeting the man’s icy gaze, as if he saw right through her hypocritical nature, Tiffany Lynch began to flee in near panic.
George River, though, did not give her a second glance, only feeling a sense of absurdity within himself, that only today he had truly recognized the true faces of those around him.
His life had always been smooth sailing, he was always seen as someone else’s enviable child.
He had the family background, money, and good looks; whatever he wanted was merely a word away.
The initial reason he went along with Jimmy Simmons’s troublemaking shenanigans was simply because he felt too repressed and needed an opportunity to unleash his true nature.
While others praised him, he accepted their compliments, but he knew well that it was all about his family background.
To put it bluntly, it was about one thing—money.
The first love of his childhood sweetheart years, and his sincere relationship with Tiffany Lynch, was also largely because she came from a similar background; at least she could understand to some extent that she wasn’t after his money.
