Chapter 780: Chapter 780: Still Together
Matthew Quach didn’t understand what had just transpired and kicked a small rock in front of him.
"Do you honestly think men will like you if you behave this way?"
"Of course, many people are fond of me." Hannah replied nonchalantly, her hand fluttering a small fan, her eyes filled with confidence, "But it’s unfortunate, I’m already spoken for, I can’t offer every man a home."
Louis Snyder walked over, just in time to hear Hannah’s last sentence.
"What do you mean by ’already spoken for’?," he questioned, his tone innocent while he stared hard into Hannah’s extraordinarily bright eyes.
The words left his mouth heavy as if tied to a thousand pounds, but falling to the ground they made no sound.
He remembered Jackie Qualls’ words. The sudden fog of doubt in his heart made it hard to breathe.
"Of course I’m talking about..." She chuckled softly, her fan twirling a cool breeze, "...myself."
Louis Snyder’s smile froze, followed by a forced laugh, "You’re quite the joker."
Hannah rose and looked at him, tossing her fan into his arms. "You’ll find out whether it’s true or not soon enough. Did you finish arguing with Jackie?"
It was Jackie again, and Louis’s eyes flickered. He spoke quietly, "It wasn’t exactly an argument."
Hannah nodded and walked ahead, "I know, it’s just a friendly conversation."
Louis Snyder curled his lips and silently followed behind Hannah.
Matthew Quach, with a disgusted look, snorted coldly and grabbed Hannah’s hand.
*
After the night’s recording session, they all strolled back leisurely.
The moon replaced the sun, and occasionally they would encounter villagers hurrying home after a long day of farm work. Despite not understanding their dialect, there was still an unexpected sense of tranquility.
Jackie Qualls remembered what had happened during the day. "I heard you’re releasing a song?"
Hannah looked at the smooth road in the distance. Her face weary, but her voice laced with joy, "Yeah, are you going to help me promote it?"
She turned to look at the tall man next to her.
His hair slightly disheveled, seemingly more refined and scholarly than usual, which made him seem even more charming. His gaze displayed a soft smiling expression.
Jackie Qualls laughed, "I couldn’t resist."
But Hannah just shook her head, "Forget it, Mr.Qualls. You’ve caused me enough trouble."
A long silence followed.
"I didn’t fully consider the repercussions of my actions, I’m sorry."
Such a serious apology only highlighted the distance between them. He stopped, making no further attempt to explain.
Explain what?
Louis Snyder was right; he had been ruthless.
However, knowing Louis’s personality, if he had been aware of the truth, he might have taken even more drastic actions.
"Still together?"
The man’s distinct voice echoed once more.
Hannah played with the hanging pearl earrings, a slight chill spreading from her fingertips. She smiled lightly, "Mr.Qualls, it’s unlike you to be small-minded. What do you mean by ’still together’?"
Looking into her eyes, her smile was like a breeze that blew right to his heart. He explained, "My apologies, I was merely curious."
Curious if Arnold Simmons, such a man, could truly fall in love with a woman?
Just one woman?
Hannah sighed lightly, speaking softly, "It’s pretty much the same across the board. People, they always think that what they don’t have, others don’t have either. Or if they have something, they believe others lack that."
She paused, raising her head to meet the man’s gaze.
