Chapter 589: Chapter 589: Stop Clinging to Me

With that, she suddenly paused, meeting the man’s almost frostbitten face with a shake of her head. "You should visit the beauty salon more often. Don’t be shy; nowadays many men are using facial masks. You need to get moving."

As she turned to leave, George River reached out to grab her but Hannah deftly sidestepped him.

She lifted her gaze to him, her eyes no longer bearing the humbleness of unrequited love. Her light coquettishness, pure and clear made her hard to resist. "Look at you, resorting to physical confrontations when you can’t win verbally. How petty can you get?"

George River pulled back his hand, clenching it into a fist. Coldly, he retorted, "Since when did I try to get physical?"

Hannah responded, "Just now. I saw it with both eyes. Don’t deny it or I’ll cry sexual harassment!"

Last time, just a mere twenty minutes with George River was enough to tip over the jealousy jar of his Mr. Simmons. If Mr. Simmons knew that George River had touched her hand, then...

...it would be catastrophic.

George River gave her a stern look. "You... You are impossible!"

Hannah displayed nonchalance. "As long as I’m beautiful, I don’t care about your judgements. Stop bothering me, you should instead try figuring out how to comfort your Miss Lynch. After encountering me, she must be upset for quite some time. Don’t be jealous. She will have plenty of chances to cry in the future because I don’t like her."

She didn’t mask the malice in her eyes, yet her smile somehow remained irresistible.

George River furrowed his eyebrows, just as he was about to respond, Hannah had already left.

He started after her, but stopped midway, watching as Hannah hopped into a sports car parked by the side of the road. That slender figure, with no hesitation or attachment, lingered in his mind for a long while.

Hannah left, but George River remained.

The inadvertent dive earlier that day was caused by someone throwing a cigarette butt on the lawn. Fortunately, help arrived timely and no internal damage was caused to the mansion.

Sitting back in this familiar environment, George River finally discovered why that conversation felt so familiar.

He recalled comparing Hannah to Tiffany, just as she compared him and Arnold Simmons now.

"...Even though you bear some resemblance to Tiffany, it’s far from enough. No matter how hard you try, a faux will always be faux. In this world, only Tiffany and I are the perfect match. Stop dreaming about claiming someone who doesn’t belong to you."

Time seemed to fly, yet also crawl. Sitting here, everything felt so lucid even though half a year had passed.

After that day, he thought he would never step foot in this place again but he kept the key.

Perhaps, he had feelings for her all along.

He just didn’t want to admit it.

All alone in silence and darkness, the people he once cherished were already long gone.

Once absent in heart, now absent in presence.

Fearing to bring items back to the Mid-hill Courtyard, Hannah decides to return to her apartment first.

By the time she came back, it was almost midnight.

The villa’s lights were off.

She carefully closed the door and changed into her slippers, planning to sneak upstairs without turning on the lights.

After a few steps, she stumbled onto something and held back a cry of pain.

At the same time, the lights came on and a low, cool voice asks, "Where are you going?"

Hannah bit her lip, taking a moment before turning around. She saw Arnold Simmons, sitting on the couch. 𝕗𝐫𝐞𝕖𝕨𝐞𝗯𝚗𝕠𝘃𝐞𝚕.𝐜𝗼𝚖

He gazed at her somberly, wearing only a loose nightshirt, the corner of his mouth curled up in a smile that felt chilling rather than warming. She couldn’t bear to meet his gaze directly.

Without facing him, Hannah, like a well-behaved child, blinked her eyes and said, "Will you believe me, if I say I got lost?"
