Chapter 242: Chapter 242: Powerlessness

Reese Shaw took a glance and felt a strange chill running down her spine. Clenching her teeth, she walked away.

As soon Reese left, the cameraman inside the practice room also cleared out, leaving the room to the two people remaining.

Hannah didn’t so much as look at Jackie Qualls in front of her and headed straight towards the classroom door.

Just as she was passing the man, she felt a tug on her wrist.

Her thin, fragile wrist seemed as if it could break with a light squeeze and her skin under his palm was delicate, silky, and slightly cool to the touch.

Jackie’s eyes hardened slightly, but his face gave nothing away.

Hannah turned her head to look at him, raising the hand that Jackie held and asked, "Mr. Qualls, what do you mean by this? Do you also want to keep me as a mistress, like George River?"

Whether it was based on the plot or Tiffany Lynch’s words from last time, it was enough for Hannah to understand their relationship.

Her eyes curved like a crescent moon, but look misty to him, like a cloud gently floating in the sky. However, when Jackie looked at her, it seemed to squeeze his heart.

It felt as if his heart were being tightly coiled, his breath became gentle, "You know everything."

Hannah sighed, dropped her gaze as if hiding her disappointment, "Mr. Qualls, you and Tiffany Lynch knew each other long ago, right? You approached me for Tiffany, didn’t you?"

As she spoke, she suddenly looked up, her eyes as vulnerable as if they were shimmering with tears, "So, Mr. Qualls, are you here to defend Tiffany? Did you intentionally get close to me to make me think you liked me, and then cruelly hurt me?"

She paused before adding, "Or, do you, like George River, want to use me as a stand-in for Tiffany Lynch? Once you find me useless, you’ll abandon me. Maybe you’ll even give me a few million as a humiliation."

Her words were soft like a delicate spring but they were filled with profound sadness and self-mockery.

She exposed the unbearable memories of her past in front of the man and reopened her ugly scars to him.

Jackie hesitated, his grip loosening and her delicate wrist slipped from his hand like the wind.

"I..."

For the first time, the usually gentle and composed man felt helpless.

In his view, Hannah’s words may have been said in anger, or out of self-mockery, but they eerily coincided with what he had done.

How could he explain to her that he didn’t think like that, nor did he intend to do so?

However, he had indeed done those things.

He had never felt so conflicted before.

He had countless things he wanted to explain to her, but in the end, all he could manage was a single, regretful sigh, "I’m sorry."

He thought, this was what he owed her.

As his words fell, a soft laugh echoed in his ears like a fairy in the mountains, elusive and free.

"I have some things to take care of, I should go."

Hannah left.

The faint scent of her still lingered in the air, like a faint orchid in a secluded valley.

The fragrance gradually faded, just like the woman he could never hold onto, as he watched her walk past him time and again.

He couldn’t hold on to her, and all he was left with was pure heartache and helplessness.

He had always thought that if he could start over, he would treat that silly girl who adored him with her whole heart well. But when the opportunity came, he felt powerless...

He didn’t know how to get close to her again, and every time he saw her eyes, scenes from the painful past seemed to flood back.
