Chapter 1301: Chapter 1301: Persuasion

Jimmy Simmons’ father also knew that Old Sir Simmons was dissatisfied with him, but considering Jimmy was his own son, and the future of the Simmons Clan would eventually fall into his hands, he let go of any complaints.

Until Arnold Simmons came along.

Jimmy’s father was very displeased at the time, but his targeting became less obvious in contrast to Jimmy’s egregious behavior.

So, under the assumption that Old Sir Simmons had already made it clear that the company would be left to Jimmy before his death, nobody expected Jimmy’s father to suddenly become so aggressive and so daring...

"This secret... I had planned to keep it for a lifetime," Uncle Chen’s features were etched with the marks of time, his voice sounding old and slow.

Yet, when he spoke of the past, he was still shocked.

As for the car accident of Jimmy’s parents, one can only say—they brought it upon themselves.

Because from the beginning, the deed they plotted was malicious, intending to eliminate Arnold.

They had hired someone to tamper with the car, not knowing it would end up killing themselves.

Sometimes, the truth of a matter can be extraordinarily dramatic.

That night, Jimmy stayed at the old family mansion until late.

The old Simmons mansion had been vacant for a long while, overseen only by old servants from the Simmons Family.

The Simmons family had a deep heritage, tracing back hundreds of years, although it had experienced decline, it was not until the generation of Jimmy’s grandfather that it slowly began to flourish again.

Jimmy’s grandfather had started well, but unfortunately, he did not carry it through.

The one who truly brought the Simmons family back to the pinnacle was Arnold.

After the Simmons Clan incident, many relatives and so-called elders of the Simmons family made calls urging Jimmy to apologize to Arnold.

Their words went back and forth, always the same.

"Bone and sinew may break, but they remain connected—why be so stubbornly defiant? We all belong to the same family. Jimmy, what you did was wrong. Apologize to your uncle, it’s for the good of the Simmons family." 𝗳𝚛𝗲𝕖𝚠𝚎𝚋𝗻𝗼𝕧𝗲𝐥.𝚌𝚘𝐦

"Jimmy, so much time has passed since your parents’ incident; it wasn’t your uncle who did it in the end, why hold a grudge against him? As the younger one, it’s not a big deal to apologize to your elder."

Apologize, apologize, apologize.

That’s all they ever said.

As Jimmy lit a cigarette, leaning back in his chair, his half-closed eyes emitted a dangerous glint.

It mattered little whether what Uncle Chen said was true or not—he still couldn’t stand Arnold.

He was nothing but a bastard. If it hadn’t been for his grandfather’s momentary lapse in allowing him into the company, how could the Simmons Clan have ended up like this?

He should have killed him back then.

Jimmy’s gaze grew increasingly vicious, and the intense taste of tobacco turned unbearably bitter in his throat.

He didn’t believe that the feats Arnold had accomplished were unattainable for him.

Driving alone, Jimmy left the old Simmons mansion under the cover of night.

The elderly butler, Uncle Chen, stood at the doorway, watching the receding taillights fade into the distance, and with a sigh, he lowered his head again.

The gates of the mansion closed once more, and in the vast courtyard, a single lamp could not dispel the solitude and desolation. The hustle and bustle that once belonged to the Simmons family had long since completely vanished.

The first rain of summer washed away the heat of the day.

After just a few hours, it felt as though it had returned to the chilly coolness of early spring.

Hannah stood in front of the floor-to-ceiling windows, gazing out at the stillness of the entire city.

The street lights were a dim yellow, neon signs flickered, all blurring beneath the heavy veil of rain, like an unfocused photograph. Between each point of light lay the myriad human conditions unique to those sheltered beneath eaves.

Gatherings, joy, laughter, and... farewells.
