Chapter 1296: Chapter 1296: Making a Wish

A fluffy, warm rabbit cradled in her arms.

The rabbit was restless, its ears twitched, its tail moved, and its heart beat quickly.

Hannah slowly blinked her eyes, as objects in front of her gradually came into focus.

It was Arnold Simmons’s tightly closed eyes and his lightly trembling eyelashes.

A smile spilled from her eyes.

A very light kiss, only lingering a few seconds longer at the end.

Arnold Simmons drew back slightly, reached out to gently pinch Hannah’s flushed earlobe, and whispered softly, "Silly?"

Hannah shook her head, slid her hand inside his jacket, clutched his clothes, and pulled him back, her voice soft and gentle as if she was whispering, "Can we do it one more time?"

She looked up at him, her eyes seemingly filled with a pond of spring water, her lips moistly red, her brows and eyes spirited.

As soft as a rabbit, as delicate as a rose.

Arnold Simmons smiled, lowered his head to gently rub the soft hair at the back of her head, his voice as tender as water, "Okay, one more time."

This time, it was no mere tasting.

Not until a meteor crossed the night sky again did Arnold Simmons finally let her go.

Under the night sky, stars fell like rain.

The crushed stars illuminated the entire night sky.

The two of them walked hand in hand toward the direction of home.

From afar, one could already see the bright lights.

There seemed to be few meteors left in the sky, occasionally one would streak across, as if nearing its end.

"Arnold Simmons, do you want to make a wish?"

Hannah stopped walking, looked up at him, the night breeze causing her nose to redden slightly.

Arnold Simmons bowed his head, pressing Hannah’s hands together in his palms, gradually dispelling the cold at her fingertips, "Did you just make a wish?"

Hannah nodded.

Arnold Simmons thought for a moment, then seriously said, "Then my wish is for all your wishes to come true."

"Wishes aren’t supposed to be said out loud," Hannah looked up at him for a while, then muttered, "Never mind, I’ll change my wish."

She had just wished for both Hannah and Arnold Simmons to be happy, but now she wished only for Arnold Simmons to be happy.

She made her wish again.

She smiled again.

Arnold Simmons looked down at her, his deep eyes touched by the moonlight, becoming warm and gentle.

If there truly were deities in this world who could hear his inner voice.

Then he only hoped that Hannah could lead a life of safety, joy, and peace.

He didn’t need to wish for them to be together forever.

Because he knew he would never leave Hannah in his lifetime.

He had to watch over her.

Watch over her for a lifetime.

...

A long time ago, Hannah made a wish under the starlight.

She thought she was happy.

She wasn’t greedy; she just hoped that this happiness could continue.

But then, on the day her home was destroyed. Aboard the starship, her father looked at her as if she were a stranger, or perhaps an insignificant ant, at the mercy of life and death.

And her mother... 𝘧𝘳𝘦ℯ𝓌𝘦𝒷𝘯𝑜𝑣𝘦𝓁.𝒸𝘰𝓂

Her mother’s gaze never lingered on her, and even on the rare occasions she looked at her, she would only tell her, "You look just like your father; he must love you very much, Hannah."

No one would love her.

Her life was an utter deception.

In the moment the world collapsed, everything crashed down heavily on her.

It was then that she realized, wishes couldn’t change people’s hearts.

They were just a beautiful illusion.

Making wishes to the stars, as the stars fall, only leaves a dust-covered ground.

But tonight, even if it was just a beautiful illusion, she hoped Arnold Simmons would be alright.

Even if that day truly came.
