Chapter 1291: Chapter 1291: The So-Called First Love

His words were filled with bitterness.

Hannah looked up at the man in front of her, gazing into the depths of his eyes.

There was pure love and pure regret.

These two complex and intense emotions intertwined, making it particularly interesting.

He was so much like him.

She found it somewhat amusing and stopped the action of searching through her things. "Why would I want to take revenge on you?"

George River tugged at the corner of his mouth, his smile pale and weak. "Because you..."

Loved me?

A phrase that she could once declare with disdain now could not be uttered.

Had she really loved him?

"Hannah, whether you believe it or not," he paused for a moment, took a deep breath, and regained his voice. "I love you, that’s true."

Hannah just glanced at him, then shook her head, "George River, I’ve told you, I don’t want your love."

The anticipated answer still made it difficult for him to breathe.

He fell completely silent, and after a moment added, "You already know about the situation with the River Clan, right?"

Hannah looked at him, a bit puzzled, "Should I be saying congratulations now?"

George River tugged at his mouth again, complex emotions filling his eyes, his words tinged with bitterness. "I lost, does that make you happy?"

Hannah neither confirmed nor denied, simply smiling, "Seeing a scumbag suffer always brings a little happiness."

George River could no longer smile. His hands, hanging limply by his sides, were stiffened by the cold wind, as if they had lost all sensation, with only a burning heat at his fingertips.

But this pain was nothing compared to the tearing sensation in his heart.

He looked up, suddenly unable to face those pure eyes, only wanting to recklessly do what he desired.

His cold fingertips trembled slightly, his entire body seeming to have lost all strength. Standing here was purely instinctual.

"Hannah Winter, everything I did, I did for you."

Hannah frowned, her tone disapproving. "The downfall of nations and changes of dynasties should not always be blamed on women."

George River did not respond, simply continuing, "I always wondered if I were better than Arnold Simmons, would you come back to me."

"You don’t want me to come back to you," Hannah exposed him, calmly stating, "You just want to take by force, am I right?"

George River was silent, staring intensely into her eyes. After a moment, he self-mockingly chuckled, "You’re right."

He just wanted to take the person back.

But he was no match for Arnold Simmons. Even his proud grandfather repeatedly cautioned him not to oppose Arnold.

He did not understand why everyone feared this man.

Clearly, five years ago, he was just an abused and bullied illegitimate child, the most despicable existence, whom anyone could trample underfoot.

What was so fearsome about such a person?

He did not understand then, and he did not understand now.

But one thing he had to admit, when it came to business, he indeed was no match for Arnold Simmons.

Even the people around him discussed that the original plan for the south of the city was not something Arnold couldn’t compete with him on, he simply hadn’t seen any potential in the project.

"Hannah, we were together first. Before me, you had no other boyfriends, so I am your first love."

In just a moment, fine rain began to drift from the sky again, creating a thin, continuous curtain under the streetlights.

The moon still hung above in the night sky.
