Chapter 1215: Chapter 1215: Unwilling to Accept
In the end, the facts proved he was right.
So, regarding Hannah, he was equally confident.
She had once loved him so deeply.
But now, everything...
Although he didn’t despise Arnold Simmons as much as he despised Jimmy Simmons, he still loathed his identity.
And he never took him seriously.
When Jimmy Simmons disappeared and the Simmons Clan was in chaos, Arnold Simmons single-handedly steadied the ship, even managing to surpass the River Clan within a mere two years.
Back then, he could still console himself that it was just because his heart wasn’t in it.
But when he truly stepped into the business world, hearing the people around him speak of Arnold Simmons with such praise and admiration.
How he created his own legend during times he didn’t understand.
Strangers casually commented that a person groomed to be heir since birth was no match for an illegitimate son who couldn’t be presented publicly.
George River couldn’t accept that.
He surreptitiously invested more funds into the south city project, all the while keeping it from his grandfather.
He didn’t believe he would truly lose.
Someone knocked on the door.
The assistant brought the latest information.
Now, the company’s main focus was almost entirely on the south city project.
George River raised his hand wearily to his forehead, preparing to look through the documents in hand, when he noticed the assistant still standing there.
He frowned and said in displeasure, "Is there something else?"
The assistant bowed his head, "Old Sir River called to ask why you haven’t been back recently."
People from the River Clan were in the company, partly to keep tabs on the business and partly to keep informed of George River’s recent actions, in case he acted impulsively again.
But these people had all been bought over by George River after Old Sir River had fallen ill.
He needed absolute authority and certainly didn’t want his every move reported back to his own grandfather.
That’s why the assistant had come to convey Old Sir River’s message.
An illness in early winter had taken a further toll on the old man’s health, now he scarcely went out.
Busy with his work, George River had no intention of going back, "Just say I’m busy with work, I’ll go back after some time."
He was also worried that his grandfather might sense something if he did go back.
The assistant nodded and left.
The south city project was progressing very slowly; some people in the circle had noticed something but it wasn’t appropriate to talk about it.
George River continued to be buried in work until Jimmy Simmons summoned him out for a meeting.
The two met alone again at a club.
Jimmy Simmons had been living at the club recently, in a world of debauchery yet repression, indulging himself carelessly.
He had originally thought to relieve his boredom, but seeing those women in front of him, flaunting themselves and deliberately imitating others in their dress, he felt only disgust and irritation, smashing things and driving everyone out.
When George River arrived, he happened upon several women fleeing in panic, each looking as if there were vicious beasts inside, their faces marked with fear.
Perhaps in their haste, one of the women even bumped into George River.
Seeing a well-dressed man, she thought he would be kind, but in the next moment, was pushed away.
The woman felt wronged, but seeing George River’s forbidding expression, she dared not entertain any further thoughts, apologized, and tried to leave.
But in the next second, George River stopped her.
Looking up, the woman’s eyes sparkled with joy, thinking she had caught his eye, "Sir, do you want me to stay?"
George River frowned, his gaze falling on the woman.
Her makeup and attire gave him an inexplicable sense of familiarity.
Only then did he realize that all the women coming out were dressed in red dresses of various styles.
