Chapter 1211: Chapter 1211: The First Lackey

What will they say after this?

After Oliver Taylor had finished a string of compliments, he immediately resumed his standard smiling face.

Hannah sat in her chair, amused by him, "You sure have a way with words, Arnold Simmons will give you a hefty red envelope later."

Oliver Taylor quickly shook his head, clutching his chest with earnestness, "No, no, my words are heartfelt, sincere praise."

The others couldn’t muster a laugh.

You might be speaking from the heart, but what about the rest of us waiting in line?

After so many years away from the academic world, it took quite an effort to scrape together a few good words from my memory, and Oliver Taylor has used them all up; what are we going to say?

As expected, the few people following him struggled to find the right words.

Reading more is definitely necessary.

Oliver Taylor could see this message written clear as day in their eyes.

He used to be ignorant as well, but under Hannah’s "guidance," he had come to recognize the importance of reading and would also occasionally find time to read and expand his vocabulary.

Now, it paid off.

Oliver Taylor thought to himself, feeling immensely proud and gave Hannah another ingratiating, goofy grin.

Determined to secure his position as the number one lackey.

However, when everyone else had dispersed, he became restless.

Though it was a banquet, sitting alone with Hannah made him extremely anxious, as if scratching at his heart. 𝕗𝚛𝚎𝚎𝐰𝗲𝗯𝗻𝚘𝚟𝚎𝗹.𝕔𝐨𝕞

He didn’t dare to harbor inappropriate thoughts, after all, Arnold Simmons was still around.

But it was Arnold Simmons’s presence that made him panic.

Fearing any misunderstanding.

Thinking this, Oliver Taylor cautiously spoke up, "Miss Winter, would you like something to eat? I could get it for you?"

"No need." Hannah shook her head, propping her head up as she watched him, her lips curled into a shallow smile with profound implications.

Oliver Taylor felt so uncomfortable he was almost in tears, neither sitting nor standing felt right; he was humiliated.

A wealthy scion who strutted around outside, now he was reduced to a fluster by just a girl’s gaze, embarrassing to admit.

"Miss... Miss Winter, do you have something you want to talk about?" he asked cautiously.

Hannah didn’t beat around the bush, "I do have something to ask you."

Oliver Taylor breathed a sigh of relief, it was better that there was something, much better.

Just moments ago, he had almost thought Miss Winter was interested in him.

Although he didn’t consider himself especially handsome, he felt he had a bit of a dashing quality.

Hannah ignored Oliver Taylor’s sudden self-obsession, simply stating, "I heard that the River Family has taken on a big project?"

She had just recalled this issue and decided to casually inquire.

Without much thought, Oliver Taylor replied, "Some time ago the River Family did take on a south-of-the-city project, and it was said to be quite profitable in the beginning, but it seems to have run into some problems recently."

He was not quite sure what the problems were.

He only heard that the situation was quite serious, and the whole River Clan appeared to be in a state of disarray.

Oliver Taylor had also been interested in the south-of-the-city project initially.

He had just triumphed over an illegitimate family member and taken over his family’s business, and was eager to make a mark, when he heard about this south-of-the-city project.

The projected profits were so large that hardly anyone could resist being tempted.

However, Oliver Taylor had been cautious and consulted Arnold Simmons for his opinion. Seeing that he had no interest in the project was enough for him to understand.

There was undoubtedly something wrong with it.

Looking back, Oliver Taylor was still shaken, "Thank goodness for Second Master Arnold, or else I wouldn’t be sitting in front of you, Miss Winter right now; I would probably be bankrupt."
