Chapter 1186: Chapter 1186: Works

Bright red lanterns cast a warm glow over the long cobblestone alley.

Louis Snyder dared to follow only from a distance, until he saw Hannah enter the inn; only then did he find a corner to stand quietly.

*

On the day Hannah left the small town, the crew of the show came out to see her off.

Though she had stayed in the town for only three days, many of the locals also turned up.

Among them was the woman who had offered to buy her a meal on the first day, as well as Granny Liu and her old friends, Granny Amy was standing with Grandpa Wilson, and next to him were his chess friends.

The morning sunlight fell, and rainwater from the night’s downpour dripped down from the eaves, landing on the cobblestones.

After Lucy Taylor had finished speaking with Hannah, the landlady stepped forward.

Dressed in a plum-patterned cheongsam for the occasion of saying goodbye, she was as elegant as ever, like a soul crystallized from the small town itself.

"Hope to see you again, bon voyage," she said.

Hannah nodded at her with a smile, "Hope to see you again, I’m off."

After speaking, she waved to the crowd.

Among the crowd, Granny Liu wiped away tears from her eyes with some difficulty.

Granny Amy asked, "What’s the matter?"

Granny Liu shook her head, "Nothing much, just thinking that from now on, I’m afraid no one will be willing to listen to an old woman like me tell fortunes and beguile people anymore."

Sigh, such is life.

Granny Amy sighed, "We’ve been sisters for so many years, don’t you still have us?"

Granny Liu snorted, "You’ve got old Wilson now, will you even remember us?"

Grandpa Wilson happened to look over just then.

Granny Amy’s face turned red with embarrassment, and even at her age, she felt the shy blush of a young girl in love, "Stop it, why bring this up!"

Hannah had already boarded the car, her assistant was helping with her luggage, along with the special local products given by the residents of the town.

All gestures of goodwill.

The car started, rolling over the uneven cobblestone road, gradually heading into the distance.

Granny Liu squinted into the distance, clasped her hands together, and murmured a quiet prayer.

The car moved further and further away until it left the boundaries of the town, and only then did the scenery along the road start to become busier.

This was a small county, remote but bustling compared to the small town.

Hannah leaned against the car window, tiredly closing her eyes.

Two assistants, one driving, the other reporting on the next parts of the itinerary.

The three days had been squeezed into Hannah’s schedule, and now that they were over, the upcoming engagements had been arranged in rapid succession.

Magazine shoots, brand endorsements, advertising conferences, film shoots, and several important interviews.

Hannah herself was in great demand; she was not only a top-tier celebrity by popularity and online influence but also had the backing of her ultra-rich, domineering boss of a boyfriend, Arnold Simmons, through which she secured multimillion-dollar opportunities.

But she had set a goal for herself to go international and take the high-end route.

In this industry, becoming a popular "little flower" of the moment was easy—companies set up personas, issue press releases, manage fan comments, and finally hit the trending searches.

None of this was hard.

But precisely because it was easy, if you could do it, so could others. When the time came, you wouldn’t worry about maintaining your persona since new stars would have already replaced you.

Popularity is fleeting; to truly secure a spot in the circle, you have to rely on great works. Decades or even a hundred years later, people will only remember the actors with outstanding works.
