Chapter 974: Chapter 998: The Elder in the Mine
Chu Linfeng nodded, and at that moment a guard clad in golden armor appeared. Seeing the middle-aged man, he respectfully called out, "Lord Nangong!" The middle-aged man smiled slightly in response.
Then he walked to Lin Feng and said, "Here is your mining tool, which is replaced every month. You mustn’t use brute force and martial skills; Immortal Stones are very fragile, although the Immortal Stone Mine is extremely hard. You need to understand this; otherwise, if you discover Immortal Stones only to end up with fragments, you will be punished."
Lin Feng glanced at the so-called mining tool, which turned out to be a Storage Belt. After inspecting it with his Divine Sense, he was somewhat surprised; inside there were at least hundreds of hoes, shovels, and other items solely for digging. Hearing that these tools might not be sufficient and are replaced monthly made his heart sink halfway down, this is truly a task not meant for humans.
Afterward, the guard left, and Lin Feng casually picked a cave to enter. The middle-aged man watched Lin Feng’s departing figure and smiled, "Such a genius appearing in my Hanjiang City is indeed joyful and congratulatory, having nearly Celestial Immortal strength right after ascent is no small feat. Your method of suppressing your strength is apparent to me; I hope you can offer me some surprises."
Lin Feng, unaware that his strength was already perceived by this middle-aged man, was now entering the mine cave. The mine was quite large; at least the size of several Martial Arts Training Grounds. From the mound of ores piled high in the distance, it was clear how vast the cave is.
The first hundred meters of the mine outside were still quite bright, but as he ventured further in, it grew increasingly dark. After walking for nearly half an hour, he found the mine had undergone a dramatic change. There was a single path initially, but now several paths appeared, each not very large.
Lin Feng randomly chose a passage to enter and found it to be very damp inside; however, every hundred meters or so, there was a roughly two-meter-wide secret chamber doorway, probably a place for resting.
Nonetheless, the light here was very dim, making it tricky to rest in such an environment. Lin Feng continued onward and soon reached the end. His eyesight was naturally capable of perceiving the surroundings, revealing a shocking scene.
At the end of this mine lay numerous skeletons, and the space was evidently wider, with large piles of discarded ores left unattended.
Lin Feng briefly counted the skeletal remains roughly around a thousand people, indicating that about a thousand Immortals had perished in this enormous mine. The strength of these Immortals was unknown to him.
Using his Divine Sense to inspect the mine, Lin Feng discovered a less cluttered area nearby, where no skeletons were present, so he walked directly over. But upon approaching, he found someone leaning against the stone wall of the mine—a person with disheveled hair.
The person’s hair covered his entire face, rendering him unrecognizable, but to Lin Feng, the sense was that this person was a more formidable figure than himself, and he could distinctly feel that this person still had an Aura of Life, not a dead man.

Seeing a living person amid a place full of skeletons indeed surprised Lin Feng. He thought he shouldn’t linger here and, considering the mine was vast enough, could choose another entrance and not need to remain in such an environment, especially with a peculiar person here who resembled neither human nor ghost.
Lin Feng swiftly turned to leave, but after taking two steps, he heard a raspy voice behind him, "Kid, since you’re here, do you still intend to leave? I’ve gone hundreds of years without tasting human flesh, today I can finally feast again; it seems heaven still favors me."
It was evident that the voice belonged to the disheveled person, who seemed to imply an intention to eat human flesh. Those skeletons might have been the aftermath of his consumption. Thinking of this, Lin Feng’s back tingled with fear.
Perhaps this mine wasn’t abandoned but had been forsaken due to the appearance of this monster, yet Lin Feng didn’t have the leisure to dwell on those matters; the crucial task now was how to handle this guy.
Stopping in his tracks, Lin Feng slowly turned around to see that this creature was just two meters behind. "Who are you? I have no grudge against you, why do you want to eat me? Besides, you’ve been here for hundreds of years without leaving; did you encounter a predicament? If you need my help, then perhaps I might consider it; resorting to cannibalism makes one speechless indeed."
"Kid, you dare speak to me like that, don’t you wish to live?" the creature responded.
"Since you want to eat me, how can I live? Who are you to be able to stay inside this mine for such a long time; it’s quite impressive. I suspect you have your difficulties, don’t you? Why not tell me, and maybe I can help," Lin Feng said.
"Help me? With just your Earth Immortal Realm strength, you think you can help me? To be honest, kid, I’ve been mute for hundreds of years, and today is the first time I’ve spoken this much; you should feel honored by your impending death," the creature declared.
Lin Feng’s heart grew ever more astounded; this figure could see his suppressed strength, indicating he was at least Celestial Immortal Realm, perhaps even stronger, as a Golden Immortal Powerhouse.
"Who are you, why are you trapped here? If you want to consume me, at least let me die knowing; I don’t want to perish without cause," Lin Feng said, undeterred by the opponent’s strength as he was certainly sure this figure would eventually appeal to him, just wishing to scare him.
"Who am I? Those who know my identity are all dead, do you think I’d let you live after revealing my name? Did you see those skeletons; they’re all slain by me. I slowly devour their flesh; you understand the taste of human flesh? It is indeed the most delicious food, too bad you won’t get to try it," the creature continued.
Feeling a surge of anger, Lin Feng countered the obstinate creature who seemed to consider himself unafraid, "Old fool, do you really think you can eat my flesh at will? Coming here, I was well-prepared, what does strong capability matter when you’re still confined to this insignificant place? Your enemy is outside, why don’t you venture out and seek vengeance, bullying the weak is just ridiculous, staying here for hundreds of years is truly speechless."
