Chapter 651: Chapter 523: Trust_3

He took a deep breath and found the reason. It was this sudden, inexplicable drowsiness. If someone affected by it slept, then all would be well. On the other hand, if they fought the drowsiness and won, congratulations, for the ghost would soon be knocking on their door.

Ordinary people lacked the spiritual power of an Angel Envoy and naturally found it hard to resist this sleepiness. Once a person fell asleep, the ghost would leave. 𝚏𝐫𝚎𝗲𝕨𝐞𝐛𝕟𝚘𝐯𝚎𝗹.𝕔𝐨𝗺

Though it was merely a guess, Yang Xiao found it very close to the truth. He took out two envelopes, both addressed to Room 701, Building 1 of the East Asia Mansion—the same address. This reminded him of what Lu Wencheng had previously mentioned. Lu Wencheng had found that one of the offices in Building 1 had served as the administrative office for the entire mansion.

Combining this with the letters in the envelopes, Yang Xiao confirmed that Room 701 was indeed the administrative office, which meant it likely concealed crucial clues.

However, the more critical the location, the greater the hidden dangers. Yang Xiao alone was not enough; he needed a partner. He approached the room’s landline, checked the connection, then dialed the number left by Lu Wencheng. After several rings, the call connected, but there was silence on the other end. After a few tense seconds, Yang Xiao spoke first, "Lu, it’s me, Yang Xiao."

The other end remained silent, but faint breathing proved someone was listening. Yang continued, "The number is different because I’m using someone else’s phone. The person is dead, killed by a ghost. I’ve found some clues about the administrative office in Building 1."

At this, the other side finally responded, their voice hoarse and guarded, "You’ve confirmed which room the office is in?"

"Yes."

"Which room is it?"

"I can’t tell you over the phone, you know why. Let’s meet first, and I’ll take you there," Yang Xiao also held back some information.

"Okay, let’s meet downstairs in 10 minutes," said the person on the other line before hanging up.

Although meeting face-to-face carried risks, Yang Xiao felt it was worth it since he had a way to verify Lu Wencheng’s identity, even without using the Ghost Lantern.

After hanging up the phone, Yang Xiao sighed in relief. His gaze inadvertently swept over the empty photo frame on the bedside table. Through the glass reflection, Yang Xiao saw a pair of blood-drenched legs standing on the bed behind him.

Without a sound, this sudden apparition made Yang Xiao leap up in shock. While mid-air, he drew out the Human Bone Staff and struck at the standing lower half, knocking it down with a splatter; but it soon stood up again. Yet, those few seconds were enough for Yang. He decisively used the Soul-Capturing Mirror, and his figure instantly vanished.

Hiding in the Mirror World, Yang Xiao’s chest heaved. Through the reflection of the photo frame glass, he saw the severed legs stiffly step towards where he had stood by the telephone, and then stop.

After a long wait with no movement, Yang Xiao finally let out a sigh of relief. This ghost was not the Source Ghost but a Chang Ghost formed after being killed by one. It likely didn’t possess the ability to enter the Mirror World, a fact Yang Xiao used to carefully observe.

Minutes ticked by, and two minutes later, the incomplete legs suddenly shuddered and then turned to walk toward the door.

Once out, it turned right and soon disappeared from Yang Xiao’s view. This reminded him, turning right led to the stairs; this Chang Ghost...was going downstairs!

Yang Xiao could no longer hide; he had a prior appointment with Lu Wencheng in 10 minutes, downstairs.

Unsure if the ghost had overheard their conversation and would meet Lu Wencheng, impersonating him, he realized it might bring trouble.

Lu Wencheng was a crucial ally who had helped him before; Yang Xiao could not easily let go. Still within the Mirror World, he too rushed out the door, planning to get downstairs before the Chang Ghost to intercept Lu Wencheng. To Yang Xiao’s surprise, as he ran into the staircase, he collided with a familiar face—an "alter ego" of his, limping and using the previous staff as a crutch to climb the stairs.

Man and ghost, one below the other, locked eyes, and the tension escalated instantly.

"Motherf*cker..." Yang Xiao, with Human Bone Staff in his left hand and Ghost Duster in his right, leaped five steps down.

"Damn it, don’t run!"

The Mirror Ghost, frightened, dropped his crutch and clambered against the wall, moving almost as fast as Yang Xiao with both feet.

Yang Xiao’s eyes bloodshot, his blood pressure soaring uncontrollably, he couldn’t care less about Lu Wencheng’s survival now. Today, the Mirror Ghost must die!
