Chapter 629: Chapter 515: Torturing Life Saber

"Venerable One?" After suppressing the female ghost on his body, Yang Xiao countered.

"No, today’s incident was a misunderstanding. Let’s not dwell on it any longer," Venerable Jile’s tone eased, persuading gently, "You know, you are the sworn enemy of the Wounded Door, and we from the Xiu Sect have also been at odds with them for a long time. The enemy of our enemy should be our friend, so we should be friends."

"No more fighting?" Yang Xiao put away his lantern and picked up a kitchen knife.

"No more fighting. Continuing would only lead to mutual destruction," Venerable Jile said, showing a kind smile, skillfully saving face for himself.

"Fine, but I still liked your untamed attitude in the beginning," Yang Xiao jutted his chin forward. "If you want reconciliation, first remove the female ghost from me, then sever an arm and a leg as an apology, and I’ll spare your life."

On hearing this, the smile on Venerable Jile’s face slowly turned cold, his voice deep and hoarse, "Yang Xiao, I offered peace not to see us both get hurt. Don’t push your luck and think I’m scared of you!"

Yang Xiao did not reply, but walked towards Elder Xiumu’s corpse, swung the kitchen knife, and chopped off Elder Xiumu’s fingers, then picked one and handed it to Lu Chenzhou.

This was a middle finger, tightly tied with a thin thread in the middle joint, the other end of which extended into the air, tied to a balloon.

Lu Chenzhou jogged a few steps, receiving the finger like a treasure, quickly untied the thread and tied the balloon to himself. As a strange feeling spread through his body, Lu Chenzhou finally breathed a sigh of relief—he would no longer be attacked by ghosts.

"Let’s end it on a good note, Yang Xiao. I, Venerable Jile, am not easy to provoke. Ask yourself, did you gain any advantage in our previous fights?" Venerable Jile scoffed coldly.

Yang Xiao pondered for a moment, then slowly nodded, "Although you are full of schemes, you aren’t entirely wrong. How about this: withdraw the female ghost from me, and I will not trouble you. We go our separate ways, how does that sound?"

"Can I trust you?" Venerable Jile questioned.

"You needn’t trust me if you’re hesitant; we can continue fighting." With the Human Bone Staff in his left hand and the kitchen knife in the right, Yang Xiao, just by standing there, exerted immense pressure on his opponent.

Eventually, Venerable Jile took a step back. Without noticeable movement, Yang Xiao felt the coldness in his body gradually recede, as if a cold corpse wrapped around him were slowly departing. The moment the female ghost completely left, Yang Xiao made his move, first aiming a blow at Venerable Jile’s face with the staff, then switching to the Soul-Capturing Mirror; his figure vanished in an instant.

However, Venerable Jile remained unperturbed across, as if he had anticipated all this. As Yang Xiao’s body appeared near Venerable Jile, a shadowy figure suddenly embraced him from behind, engulfing him in an even colder sensation than before.

Both harboring ulterior motives, the reconciliation had been nothing but a ruse. From the moment they identified each other, it had been a fight to the death.

When facing Yang Xiao’s attacks Venerable Jile resorted to old tactics; the remaining puppets blocked the Human Bone Staff, but this time Yang Xiao, despite the risk of being harmed by the female ghost, was resolved to finish him quickly. The staff could no longer be used—after switching to the Soul-Capturing Mirror during the last use, the staff began to disobey, the skin layer covering it felt as if it were sticking to his hand, and further use might fuse it permanently with his hand.

As they drew closer, with Venerable Jile’s fearful eyes visible beneath his mask, close combat was his weakness. Though revered, he was just a mage who threw skills from a distance.

The last puppet stood in front of Venerable Jile, but Yang Xiao, charging up his power, was confident he could kill both the puppet and Venerable Jile behind it. As spiritual power surged into the rusty kitchen knife, it unleashed a remarkable sharpness, splitting the puppet at the shoulder. But in the next second, Venerable Jile sidestepped strangely to the side, the blade grazing his right arm, drawing a line of blood but causing no serious injury.

Immediately after, the left arm hidden behind the puppet came into view with a well-timed Punch. The punch, powerful and heavy, sent the puppet flying and, despite Yang Xiao’s best efforts to dodge, still struck his left arm, accompanied by a "crack," throwing him back like a kite with its string cut, and he hit the ground, spewing blood.

Luckily, it missed his vitals; otherwise, a punch to the chest, even with the protection of the Drama Robe, would have cost him dearly. 𝒇𝙧𝙚𝓮𝔀𝓮𝒃𝙣𝓸𝒗𝒆𝒍.𝙘𝒐𝒎

Before Yang Xiao could get back on his feet, Venerable Jile rushed over. Seeing his opponent’s agile and tricky footsteps, Yang Xiao realized he had been concealing his skill. Not only were his magic artifacts strange, but his physical abilities were strong too, not top-tier but more than Yang Xiao could handle at the moment.

"Drink fine wine at leisure, Yang Xiao. Rest easy!"

As Venerable Jile’s hefty body began to run, generating a powerful momentum like a small mountain pressing down, at the critical moment, Lu Chenzhou picked up a clay figurine, aimed at Venerable Jile, and with the last of his spiritual power, fiercely snapped it between the figurine’s legs, screaming, "I’ll take you down with me!"

The next second, Yang Xiao clearly saw Venerable Jile’s reaction, as if hit in a critical spot, he abruptly stopped, staggering, clutching his groin, and howling in pain while Lu Chenzhou, taking a club from a nearby worker, charged at Venerable Jile, determined to exploit his opponent’s weakness to the fullest.
