Chapter 360: Chapter 310: Friends_2

What made them even more vigilant was the discovery of a pistol on one of the bodyguards’ person; after removing the magazine, they found it was filled to the brim with bullets.

Beibei grabbed a bodyguard’s hand, only to see an electronic wristband tied around the wrist, displaying a heart rate dropping to zero and all bodily indices rapidly disappearing. Beibei furrowed her brows, "Not good, this thing could probably send out an alarm over the internet."

In other words, they had been exposed. What was originally a surprise attack now necessitated a full-on assault. Without hesitation, several of them quickly ascended the stairs. Just as Wu Zhengwu cracked open the door to the fire escape, the next second bullets zipped by, striking the metal handle on the door.

The firepower from the other side was ferocious, with at least 3 or 4 guns, including submachine guns. The dense hail of bullets momentarily pinned Yang Xiao and his group inside the fire escape. Moments later, a flurry of hurried footsteps echoed from downstairs, accompanied by women’s screams.

Before long, a woman dressed in a service uniform, carrying a tray, ran up in a panic. Her neatly tied hair was now disheveled, and she had lost one of her brown high-heels in her rush. The woman seemed to see a savior upon spotting the four individuals, but before she could get close, Beibei swiftly threw a dagger, hitting the woman’s throat squarely. She fell backward to the ground, life draining out of her eyes. The tray she was holding clattered to the ground, and a small black pistol hidden beneath it rolled down the stairs.

"Escaping with a tray in her hands, did she really take us for fools?" Beibei cursed. The fact that the woman was running towards the sound of gunfire was blatantly illogical.

"You guys stay here, I’ll find a way to get around!" Yang Xiao instructed before running up the stairs, armed with the Soul-Capturing Mirror.

Once out of the trio’s sight, Yang Xiao took out the Soul-Capturing Mirror. With his ability activated, he entered the Mirror World and found his way to the room where Mo Daidai had met with him previously. Through a reflective glass pane, Yang Xiao could see a person lying on the floor inside the room with a submachine gun beside them and a large pool of blood on the floor.

Most crucially, the clothes on the person looked familiar to Yang Xiao... they seemed to be... Mo Daidai’s clothes.

After confirming there was no one else inside the room, Yang Xiao exited the Mirror World and cautiously approached the body on the floor. He let out a sigh of relief. The body wasn’t Mo Daidai’s, but someone whose build resembled his to a certain degree. Half of the man’s head was blown away by a bullet, leading Yang Xiao to surmise he had stuck the gun in his mouth and pulled the trigger.

The body was still warm, obviously dead not long ago. Yang Xiao guessed that upon hearing the gunfire, the man had immediately killed himself. Brains and blood, a viscous mixture, oozed from the gaping wound at the back of his head, creating a horrific sight.

Without a doubt, this person was the scapegoat Mo Daidai had created. The submachine gun that had fallen to the floor was the same model he and Tong Han had used during their operation.

The gunfire in the corridor gradually became sparser, and soon enough, hurried footsteps approached. Yang Xiao moved towards the door, wary of friendly fire, and announced Beibei’s name several times beforehand. Then he opened the door, and as expected, Beibei and the other two had dealt with the trouble outside and rushed over.

Yang Xiao stepped aside and feigned a sigh, "We’re a step too late, the person has already committed suicide."

The fact that Yang Xiao appeared suddenly in the room didn’t surprise Wu Zhengwu, Beibei, and the others; they had already witnessed Yang Xiao’s ability to travel back and forth. If it hadn’t been for Yang Xiao distracting the Fierce Ghost that Beibei resented in the mall battle, they would have been in big trouble.

Wu Zhe stepped forward and quickly checked the body, coming to the same conclusion as Yang Xiao, "Just died, must have heard the gunfire and knew he couldn’t escape."

As the group dispersed to check the room, Beibei quickly located a metallic safe embedded into the wall, as tall as a person. The safe was disguised to look like an ordinary wardrobe, indistinguishable unless one opened it up close.

Wu Zhe, appearing to be an expert in technical matters, saw the safe and asked everyone to step back to wait for the technical department’s support.

True enough, with the arrival of the technical department’s professionals, it took a full half-hour to open the safe, which to their horror, was booby-trapped with a bomb. If opened incorrectly, the bomb would detonate immediately, with enough force to send everyone in the room to the heavens.

After the bomb had been disarmed, the contents of the safe were moved out one by one. There were indeed a lot of valuable items—several boxes of cash and gold bars, but the attention of Yang Xiao and others was focused on the innermost part of the safe, where there were two silver briefcases, one large and one small.

The smaller one was about the same size as the one in Yang Xiao’s home, but the larger one resembled a double bass case, only more structured. These were specially made cases for storing the Resentful Eyes, each one exorbitantly priced. Of course, more importantly, judging by the weight and feel, they still housed Resentful Eyes inside.

Yang Xiao really didn’t expect Mo Daidai to be so extravagant. To make the play look real, he not only cost several lives but also deliberately left behind two Resentful Eyes here.

However, with these two Resentful Eyes, they could now report back satisfactorily.

The technical department used a scanner on the two cases that held the Resentful Eyes. Then, turning to Yang Xiao, the person in charge on the scene, they nodded, indicating there were no explosives remaining and that it was safe.

Curious about what Mo Daidai might have left behind, Yang Xiao, after reporting to Nalan Shuo, put on gloves and opened the first briefcase. After unwrapping two layers of silver paper, inside was an exquisitely made and antique-looking teacup. Yang Xiao picked it up and looked it over for a while but found nothing unusual, so he put it back exactly as it was. This must also be a Resentful Eye.

Then he came to the second, larger case. Yang Xiao was very curious about what kind of Resentful Eye could be so large, but when he opened it, he was dumbfounded. Inside was a cane, jet black throughout, with the handle carved into the shape of a snake’s head.

It was the Staff Killing Elder’s Snake-head Cane!

A buzzing sound went off in Yang Xiao’s mind. He couldn’t understand how the item, which he had personally sold to the Peace Hotel, somehow... somehow ended up in the hands of Mo Daidai!

A terrible speculation slowly formed in Yang Xiao’s heart. Could it be that Mo Daidai was with the Peace Hotel? Thinking deeper, could the Peace Hotel be operated by his own family?

The sudden appearance of the cane completely disrupted Yang Xiao’s train of thought. He didn’t want to stay here any longer. He left the wrapping up to Beibei and the others, making the excuse that he needed to report back to Director Nalan, and he left first.

The operation was over. As he left the hotel and got into the car back to the public office, Yang Xiao’s phone suddenly vibrated—it was a text message from an unknown number with a very simple content, just three words: "Look to the right."

There were many cars here and the speed was slow. Yang Xiao looked to the right and through the car window, he could see that about 20 meters away on the side of the street was a cafe that wasn’t doing much business. Only two people were sitting by the window—a man and a woman. The man was Mo Daidai and naturally, the woman was Tong Han. At that moment, both of them were looking in Yang Xiao’s direction. Mo Daidai was leaning back in his chair, the picture of leisure, idly twirling a folding fan in his hand.

On the fan were written two characters in thick ink: "Thank you."

Upon noticing that Yang Xiao had seen them, Mo Daidai suddenly smiled and skilfully flipped the fan over, revealing four new characters on the other side: "My friend."

Thank you, my friend.

Seeing this scene, Yang Xiao did not feel the slightest bit relieved. On the contrary, he only felt oppressed. He couldn’t see through either Nalan Shuo or Mo Daidai, much less figure them out, yet they seemed to see him clearly. This feeling made Yang Xiao very uncomfortable. In front of these two, he felt like a monkey dancing naked, while he could only see their shadows on the ground.

They were like vortexes, and the moment Yang Xiao got involved even slightly, he would be sucked in, sinking into the unfathomable depths, never to return.
