Chapter 302: Chapter 262: It’s Coming
After the fight, Li Qingxuan chased after the denture-sporting old lady, hammering away at her, but he realized that no matter what he did, he couldn’t kill her completely. Despite her severe injuries, the old lady could run quite fast.
She rushed toward the stairwell and ascended, and Li Qingxuan hesitated for a moment before gritting his teeth and giving chase. He was worried that Mo Daidai, who knew nothing, would fall victim to the old lady’s evil.
He believed that Cheng Ya was already dead. If something happened to Mo Daidai as well, they wouldn’t even be able to make up the minimum number of people required for their task if they didn’t resolve it completely tonight.
As if drawn to the scent of flesh and blood, the old lady charged directly to the eighth floor. Naturally, the footsteps in the stairwell drew the attention of Mo Daidai and the ghost tenant in room 8026. What puzzled Mo Daidai the most was that he could actually hear Li Qingxuan’s voice.
"Stop!" Li Qingxuan, panting heavily, "Old timer, stay... stay where you are!"
Because of the distraction, Mo Daidai, who was carefully wiping the ghost tenant’s feet, took a hard kick on her shoulder, growing more irritable by the minute, "Get out and see, who’s being so restless in the middle of the night? If that thing is attracted here, we’re all going to die!"
After Mo Daidai got up, she bowed to the elderly tenant first, saying respectfully, "Sorry, please wait for me, granny. I’ll be right back."
Moving quickly to the door, fearing a ruse, she opened the door just a crack and caught sight of Li Qingxuan leaning against the wall, gasping for air. It didn’t look fake and Mo Daidai immediately panicked. If he was being held up by the ghost tenant and Li Qingxuan was not in the room, then who would be there to back up Yang Xiao?
"What’s happening, why are you here?" No longer caring about potential ambushes, Mo Daidai immediately opened the door to ask.
"Are you okay? I... I came to give you a warning. Don’t ever trust Fu Changxue, that son of a bitch, and also..."
Leaning against the wall, too tired to catch his breath, Li Qingxuan hadn’t finished speaking when an object flew at them, striking Mo Daidai hard in the back of the head.
"Mo Daidai, you damned fool, get over here and wipe my feet!" A furious yell came from the room, "And the one outside, too. Get in here and wash my feet again, hurry up!"
The object that flew over was an old, beige, tattered rubber slipper. Clutching her head, Mo Daidai quickly pushed Li Qingxuan out, warning in a low voice, "Get out of here, don’t worry about me. Go help Chu Xi, hurry!"
But the next second, to Mo Daidai’s astonishment, Li Qingxuan suddenly pushed him aside, kicked the door open, and rushed in. In a lightning-fast move, he grabbed the basin full of murky bloodstained water from the ground and slapped it over the old tenant’s head.
"For the disrespectful elderly," Li Qingxuan roared, "hard fist strike, Five Thunderous Heart Decree!" Li Qingxuan punched, knocking the ghostly old man flying off the rocking chair beneath him.
Mo Daidai: "!!!"
Mo Daidai was stunned. His first reaction was not excitement but fear as he looked at Li Qingxuan who seemed to be possessed by a deity. His legs went weak, and he suspected this man was a Source Ghost.
Li Qingxuan rushed over, kicked at the ghost tenant cowering in the corner until he could kick no more, then walked over to Mo Daidai, panting and supporting his waist, patted his shoulder, "It’s over, let’s go. We need to help Yang... take advantage of Chu Xi’s strengths to find the key."
Too horrified by what he had just witnessed, Mo Daidai hadn’t even noticed Li Qingxuan’s slip of the tongue. After confirming the crisis was averted, Mo Daidai quickly calmed down. Through careful questioning, he learned what had happened and understood that Li Qingxuan’s divine power was fake. Yang Xiao had discovered some hidden rules of the apartment through some means – that disrespectful ghost tenants could be attacked. This piece of information was incredibly important.
"Have you tried killing them?" Mo Daidai suddenly looked at Li Qingxuan.
"I’ve tried, but no matter how I attack them, these things seem to be heavily wounded but can’t be killed," Li Qingxuan said truthfully.
"Maybe you’re not being ruthless enough," Mo Daidai retorted.
Mo Daidai walked back to the kitchen, pulled a sharp, long knife from the knife rack behind her, and stabbed without emotion at the ghost tenant slumped on the floor.
The blade pierced accurately into the right eye socket of the ghost tenant who, in pain, struggled violently. But Mo Daidai, as if feeling nothing, even put most of her body weight on the handle to drive it deeper and kept twisting the blade. The ghost tenant’s screams were almost ear-piercing, and the blood that splattered over Mo Daidai’s face even reached the ceiling.
Mo Daidai quickly tried several other methods at lightning speed – slitting the throat, piercing organs, slicing open the chest – but none were effective. Finally, she pulled out the knife from the heart and sighed with frustration, "No use, they really can’t be killed."
This scene sent a chill down Li Qingxuan’s spine; he hadn’t expected this seemingly dull person to be so ruthless.
The two turned to leave, but as they reached the doorway, they suddenly noticed a new line of blood writing on the mirror on the wall—
"Be careful, it’s coming."
...
minutes earlier, Yang Xiao, who was worried about Mo Daidai’s situation, shifted his perspective back to Mo Daidai’s room, just in time to see Li Qingxuan beating up the unrighteous ghost tenant. But before he could give a warning, a chilling cold enveloped him.
The chill seeped in from behind, from the direction of the bed, as if some unknown terror was slowly awakening.
Yang Xiao didn’t dare turn around. He bit his finger as quickly as possible and wrote those few words on the mirror. Then he didn’t dare move a muscle.
