Chapter 236: Chapter 200: Remuneration
Worried about remaining cult members, Yang Xiao mustered his strength to raise his hand, aiming the gun at the safety door. Moments later, a few silhouettes dressed in black suits appeared.
"Bang!"
The shot went off course, hitting the safety door. "Don’t shoot, we’re on the same side!" someone yelled from behind the door.
Upon hearing his voice, Black Sunglasses’s expression visibly improved. He headed towards the safety door. "They’re our people, they’re with us!"
With their own people coming in, it meant the crisis was over, and only now were they truly safe.
Leaning against the wall, Yang Xiao was gasping for air. People kept coming over to check the injured, dressing wounds, while another armed team inspected the nearby rooms for any hidden stragglers.
Fu Qingzhu was severely injured and was carried away on a stretcher. After Yang Xiao had his superficial injuries treated, he intended to leave. Yet, before he could exit the safety door, he was stopped by several people.
"What do you mean?" Yang Xiao frowned.
"Take off your coat and open your backpack. We need to check." The man guarding the safety door said seriously.
"What right do you have to inspect my personal belongings?" Inspection was absolutely out of the question. The Drama Robe was Yang Xiao’s bottom line; the fewer people knew about it, the better.
"Sir, please cooperate. We don’t want any unpleasantness." The man was probably in his early twenties, fair-skinned with light makeup on his face and a silver earring in his right ear, the picture of a spoiled young master looking at Yang Xiao with arrogance in his eyes.
After the young master spoke, the other two men guarding the door also stared menacingly at Yang Xiao, one even reaching into his clothes, obviously hiding something.
Yang Xiao suddenly laughed, then, without warning, punched the young master in the face. Before the other two men could react, he drew his gun and placed it against the young master’s forehead.
In an instant, the young master dared not move, and his legs went weak. He had not expected the other to pull a gun over a trifling disagreement. "Sis! Sis, save me!"
Hearing the commotion, a girl who was busy handling aftermath rushed over, just in time to see Yang Xiao stepping on the young master with the gun pressed to his head.
After understanding what happened, the girl pleaded with Yang Xiao to lower the gun. This was their territory, and seeing the opportunity, Yang Xiao decided to withdraw. However, no sooner had he lowered the gun than the young master scrambled away to the girl, pointed at Yang Xiao, and loudly called for people to deal with him.
"Slap!" The girl raised her hand and slapped the young master.
"Such an embarrassment, you should never have been brought along. Get out!" Clearly, the girl held much higher standing in her family than her good-for-nothing brother. With her reprimand, the young master wilted immediately and shot Yang Xiao a glare before leaving dejectedly with his entourage.
"Hold it," Yang Xiao suddenly spoke up, drawing his gun again. "You still dare to glare at me?"
The young master ran off, not looking back.
"Mr. Chu, the child from our family is ignorant, don’t take it to heart." The girl apologized to Yang Xiao, then gestured to her subordinate to say a few words privately. Shortly after, the subordinate returned with a small black briefcase.
At the girl’s indication, the subordinate handed the case to Yang Xiao and presented it with both hands once opened, revealing a suitcase full of money.
"Mr. Chu, this is a small token, not meant as a sign of respect, but today’s help to the Qi family will not be forgotten." The girl bowed slightly to thank Yang Xiao, and nearby, the men in suits also bowed.
"Miss Qi is too polite, entrusted as a trustee, it is only right to act with loyalty," replied Yang Xiao, putting away his gun. He could feel their sincerity. Despite her young age, this girl was far superior in both personal capacity and manners compared to her worthless brother.
Seeing Yang Xiao accept the briefcase, Miss Qi’s expression softened somewhat, and she continued, "Mr. Chu, there’s another favor I need to ask. Later, we will need to inspect your backpack, but rest assured, there’s no need for a detailed search, just a quick X-ray scan, if you please." She bowed again.
"Well..." Yang Xiao began to admire the girl’s tact. Now that he had taken the money and they had given face, it would be rude not to comply with such a small request.
After a moment’s hesitation, Yang Xiao inquired, "Miss Qi, if I may ask, what are you looking for?"
"That Magic Artifact," the girl admitted straightforwardly. "It is very important to us and ties to many lives. I trust Mr. Chu’s character and believe you would not take advantage of the situation, but I still have to answer to my elders."
As Yang Xiao had guessed, the Resentful Eye was brought by the Qi family, so obviously, they were aware of its size and shape. They were worried it might have been taken by outsiders.
But Yang Xiao wasn’t worried at all. He knew the Resentful Eye had already been swallowed by the Drama Robe and turned into one of its embroidered patterns. Not to mention X-ray scanning, even if they took it out for a close examination, they wouldn’t find it—the pattern was visible only to him.
"Alright then, since Miss Qi has asked, I will comply; I always conduct myself with integrity," declared Yang Xiao, standing tall and righteous.
Sure enough, after the X-ray inspection, Yang Xiao passed without any issues. He picked up his backpack, declined the offer for a ride home, and took a taxi back to his apartment.
After locking the door and ensuring no one followed, Yang Xiao eagerly opened his backpack and took out the Drama Robe.
Indeed, one more paper coin had disappeared from the Nether Garment, and at the hem of the Drama Robe, alongside a Green Lantern, there was now an additional silver horsetail whisk.
