Chapter 1940: Chapter 1099: A Teachworthy Child_2

After all, everyone understands that in the coming days, similar Ghost Train musical chairs will continue to play out.

These new players with insufficient skills will eventually be eliminated, and by then, it will be an immortal battle among the kings.

Last night, Yandeta Chiyoda also grew suspicious of some of the ’passengers’ on the Ghost Train. Now she wants to use these teammates’ answers to verify her judgment.

But when the final result came out, Yandeta Chiyoda sighed inwardly; the answers these people provided were of no reference value, some obviously speaking lies with open eyes.

The only one she could confirm spoke the truth was Sakai Misaki.

Even her partner Watanabe Gou’s words could not be trusted.

Takagi Reina reported being in carriage No. 4, and Yang Xiao immediately followed, claiming to be in No. 6.

As for what roles they played, Yang Xiao and Takagi Reina had already coordinated their accounts last night, crafting it seamlessly. 𝑓𝘳𝑒𝑒𝓌𝘦𝘣𝘯ℴ𝑣𝘦𝑙.𝘤𝑜𝑚

After summarizing all the intelligence, Yandeta Chiyoda found herself with a headache, realizing she had almost no recollection of the passenger roles these guys provided.

It’s impossible for everyone to be acting geniuses; it’s just that everyone is mutually suspicious, unwilling to speak the truth.

Facing this situation, Yandeta Chiyoda had no choice—she couldn’t verify the details.

"There’s one more thing." Kato Shinjiro picked up his phone, "Last night I received a message from Ogawa Haruka."

This was a bombshell, and everyone instinctively looked at Kato Shinjiro’s phone, eagerly anticipating the clues to follow.

Kato Shinjiro didn’t keep everyone in suspense, turning on the phone and revealing the information, which was substantial.

In her message, Ogawa Haruka stated she was attacked by passengers disembarking from the ghost train; they couldn’t see stationary objects even if they were close by, and they sported strange water stains. She suspected the passengers’ deaths were related to Water Ghosts.

From the message’s information analysis, Ogawa Haruka survived alone at Netherworld Mountain Station for a considerable time and successfully escaped at least two attacks from ghost passengers.

The key point was that her feedback corroborated the mysterious people’s words.

Under the premise of insufficient clues, the mysterious people’s words pointed them in a direction. The core of their mission was to infiltrate Netherworld Mountain Station and ensure their survival while finding the lost radio at the station.

"Cut the crap, while there’s time, let’s continue finding clues." Although Watanabe Gou was a seasoned player, he didn’t completely trust those mysterious people’s words. He only relied on the clues he could get through hard work.

After a discussion, everyone decided to split into three groups.

The first group consisted of Kato Shinjiro and Sakai Misaki. Their task was to continue to stay at the Detective Agency, responsible for intelligence gathering, and more importantly, prepare to contact the mysterious people, extracting information from them by any means necessary.

This job required high intelligence and adaptability, and Kato Shinjiro had previously interacted with these mysterious people, making him a suitable candidate.

The second group was Yandeta Chiyoda partnering Watanabe Gou, tasked to bring photos and look for underground projects marked 14 and associated buildings.

The third group was the largest, with Yang Xiao, Takagi Reina, alongside Xiao Lin Zhengyan and Yamamoto Chunai, making four in total.

Their mission was to continue exploring along Renhe Road, ideally finding a way to infiltrate the Youjian Mountain Tunnel.

This was also preparing them for a last resort; if things became irreversible, they might forcefully enter the Youjian Mountain Tunnel to search for clues.

Of course, this carried significant risks, and those mysterious people had sternly warned them not to attempt such actions.

But if faced with life-threatening danger, who would care about what they said? Besides, Yang Xiao had never really trusted them from the start.

Who knows if this Ghost Station was their doing?

Yang Xiao and his party left the Detective Agency, greeted by warm sunlight, walking along the roadside, Yang Xiao and Takagi Reina shoulder to shoulder, their handsome-ness and beauty forming an attractive scene that drew admiring glances from passersby.

Yang Xiao initially didn’t plan to take Xiao Lin Zhengyan and the others, but the latter insisted on sticking with them, and Yang Xiao reluctantly agreed after explaining the pros and cons.

To Yang Xiao, following them in broad daylight today wasn’t the best choice.

Walking ahead, Takagi Reina cleared her throat, coughed once, and Xiao Lin Zhengyan immediately slowed his pace, signaling Yamamoto Chunai beside him to walk slower.

The two of them fell behind Yang Xiao and Takagi Reina by about four or five meters, maintaining that distance.

"Don’t follow too closely, Miss Takagi has things to discuss with Mr. Chu, things we shouldn’t overhear," Xiao Lin Zhengyan whispered to Yamamoto Chunai beside him.

After glancing to confirm Xiao Lin Zhengyan wasn’t following, Takagi Reina lowered her voice: "Hey, don’t you find Kato Shinjiro a bit odd?"

"Odd in what way?" Yang Xiao casually asked.

"I suspect he already knows Ogawa Haruka; otherwise, why would Ogawa only send him messages?"

"And think about it, in such a thrilling environment, where death might be imminent, Ogawa is still willing to risk giving him clues—doesn’t that seem odd?" Takagi Reina questioned.

"Not odd. If I were Ogawa Haruka, I would also message Kato Shinjiro, even if it indeed required braving a little risk. Being willing to do so only means she’s not foolish," Yang Xiao replied without turning his head.

"Reason?"

"Let’s break down your earlier questions; you actually have two questions there."

"First, why is Ogawa Haruka willing to risk transmitting information? Second, why is Kato Shinjiro her chosen recipient instead of someone else?"

"First, let’s address the former. The reason Ogawa Haruka is willing to risk transmitting information is simple, because she doesn’t want to die. She wants to live."

"This girl isn’t stupid. She already realized these ghost passengers chasing her probably relate to Water Ghosts, but she doesn’t have experience dealing with Water Ghosts, so she needs someone external to offer her guidance."

"However, she also understands no one would respond to mere questions, so she must first reveal unknown information to prove her value."

"That’s her thought process, and her actions reflect it."

"Among the survivors, those with direct experience facing Water Ghosts are few—only four people: you, me, Kato Shinjiro, and Sakai Misaki."

"Now your second question: why did Ogawa Haruka choose Kato Shinjiro over the other three candidates?"

Yang Xiao continued: "Sakai Misaki can be directly excluded; asking her is futile. So her real selection is between you, me, and Kato Shinjiro."

"But last night she knew you and I were chosen to ride the night train and judged that rashly contacting us was risky, hence she chose Kato Shinjiro, given last night’s plan had him staying safe at the Detective Agency." Takagi Reina was also a wise person, quickly grasping the reasoning despite being initially confused by excessive information.

"Exactly." Yang Xiao reached out to gently pat Takagi Reina’s head, speaking in a pedagogical tone: "Though your nature appears slightly dim, remember diligence can compensate for clumsiness, and there’s potential in teachability."

"Shut up, or I’ll sew your mouth!" Takagi Reina reached out unerringly, pinching Yang Xiao’s upper and lower lips into a duck’s mouth.

Their playful interaction didn’t escape Yamamoto Chunai’s gaze, her eyes rippling with amusement. "Mr. Xiaolin, look, Miss Takagi and Mr. Chu really get along."

No sooner had she spoken than Yang Xiao broke away and retaliated with a slap on Takagi Reina’s head, sparking a playful tussle between them in the street.
