Chapter 1887: Chapter 1072: Ticket

This scene put immense pressure on Takagi Reina; she suddenly remembered Watanabe Gou’s flaw, "The key, he has the key, he doesn’t need us to open the door!"

What she didn’t expect was that after hearing about the key, the people outside seemed to visibly relax. At the same time, the intense knocking stopped, followed by a rustling sound, then the sound of a key being inserted into the lock, and with a "click," the door opened.

Seeing the key being used to open the door, Takagi Reina, hiding behind it, was dumbfounded. A ghost can use a key to open a door, how the heck are you supposed to play along?

Moreover, why did these teammates outside seem to have zero intelligence? Were they humans or those ghostly things?

After the door opened, standing outside were their teammates, at least they appeared to be.

However, Watanabe Gou’s outfit looked a bit strange today. He seemed very afraid of the cold, wrapped in an old-fashioned leather jacket, with the collar turned up and the sleeves long, enfolding his entire body.

Fearing conflict, the teammates didn’t immediately walk in after the door was opened but instead faced off against Yang Xiao and Takagi Reina across the door.

At the moment the door opened, Yang Xiao had already grabbed a mop stick in his hand, and Takagi Reina had picked up a wooden stool for protection.

Although they knew they stood no chance against the ghost, they absolutely couldn’t just stand there waiting to be slaughtered.

"Don’t be nervous, we are human, Watanabe Gou too. It was Miss Mimura Kaori who had an incident last night," Suzuki Takashi quickly explained.

"Chu Xi, Miss Takagi, I really am human; I even called you last night, and earlier... earlier was all a misunderstanding. I was worried you had issues." Watanabe Gou’s heart was relieved upon personally seeing the lively Yang Xiao and Takagi Reina.

Seeing the two unmoved, Watanabe Gou dialed a phone number in front of everyone, and immediately, the red phone in the office rang. 𝒇𝒓𝒆𝒆𝙬𝒆𝒃𝓷𝒐𝓿𝙚𝙡.𝒄𝓸𝒎

"If you’re Watanabe Gou, then what was the ghostly laughter outside the door at around 6 am?" Yang Xiao got straight to the point.

"That was me faking it." Watanabe Gou couldn’t help but smile wryly, then lowered his voice to imitate the deep, raspy laugh that sounded exactly like what Yang Xiao and Takagi Reina had heard before.

"Seriously, are you crazy, not sleeping at home early in the morning, but coming to pretend to be a ghost and scare the two of us?"

At this moment, Takagi Reina exploded, unable to comprehend the thought process of her teammates, especially when they had seriously analyzed the ghostly laughter earlier.

Looking back now, it only made them feel foolish, like clowns.

"Sorry, I didn’t mean to do that, but... but I also didn’t know what was happening with you. You didn’t answer the phone last night, and this morning you didn’t respond. There wasn’t a sound from the room. I was worried... worried that you might have also fallen victim, so I didn’t dare come in." Watanabe Gou felt somewhat aggrieved; he was also scared.

"We agreed on 8 am, and you showed up at 6. Who would dare open the door for you?" Takagi Reina wasn’t letting him off easily; she was very sharp-tongued.

"If I came at 8, it might be too late. If something happened to you, the others wouldn’t know and would foolishly come to meet up, and that would be troublesome." Watanabe Gou defended his actions.

"Wait, explain the pretending to be a ghost thing clearly!" Yang Xiao focused on the main point.

"Yikes, that was just a strategy. When I realized something was wrong inside, I also worried the ghost might open the door and kill me, so... I thought of this trick. I wanted to confuse the ghost." Watanabe Gou explained, "A long time ago, I heard a senior mention that in extreme danger, if you can do something abnormal, incomprehensible to the ghost, there’s a chance to escape safely."

"You’re full of antics, huh!" Takagi Reina angrily berated Watanabe Gou again, his spur-of-the-moment idea gave Yang Xiao and her quite a headache. Almost scared them to death.

But now things were finally clarified; it was indeed a misunderstanding, Yang Xiao and others mistook Watanabe Gou for a ghost, and he didn’t trust them either.

As the misunderstanding was cleared up and Watanabe Gou prepared to enter through the door, his arm was pulled back by someone who hadn’t spoken the whole time - Kato Shinjiro.

"What’s wrong?" Watanabe Gou stepped back again.

Kato Shinjiro looked at Yang Xiao through the door, seemingly trying to find a flaw on his face, then suddenly asked, "Chu Xi, why are you so suspicious of Watanabe Gou? You seem to instinctively believe something is wrong with him."

"It’s because of Mimura Kaori. Shortly after you left yesterday, I knew she was going to die." Yang Xiao didn’t hesitate and directly brought out the tape recorder, and as the heavily distorted recording played, everyone’s doubts were settled.

But at the same time, another question arose. Why was there no problem with this recording yesterday when they had also listened to it?

"It’s simple, because Mimura Kaori was present at the time." Takagi Reina felt drained by having to explain such a simple matter.

"To be precise, it was because of the ghost. The ghost was present; the recording seemed fine. It was influencing the recording, or perhaps... our perception." Yang Xiao added.

This was an obvious issue, nothing that required too much discussion. As the mood at the scene eased, Watanabe Gou began sharing his experiences from last night.

Everything started normally; after leaving the detective agency with Mimura Kaori, they headed to his residence as planned. It wasn’t far from the office building, about a 20-minute walk, to a rather old home.
