Chapter 1798: Chapter 1029: Probing_3

If it weren’t for Sato Shouta, replacing his partner with any seasoned player of strong mental fortitude that night, it would have been Yang Xiao who got dragged into the Ghost Dream.

And based on the clues they had at the time, he would hardly have had a chance of surviving.

So while it’s true he saved Sato Shouta, Sato Shouta in turn saved him. Yang Xiao had thought more than once that perhaps this was fate, a destined meeting filled with a sense of inevitability. 𝑓𝑟𝑒𝘦𝓌𝑒𝑏𝑛𝑜𝘷𝑒𝘭.𝒸𝘰𝑚

Putting himself in Sato Shouta’s shoes, Yang Xiao would also hope someone would come to help him be liberated and tell him the truth.

While Yang Xiao was lost in thought, suddenly a not-so-obvious cry caught his attention. He immediately stood up, searching for the source of the sound.

A moment later, he quickly raised his head, pinpointing the location of the sound. Indeed, it was right above them.

Yang Xiao immediately woke Sato Shouta, telling him to go downstairs and get help, while he opened the door and rushed out, heading up the safety stairs to the eighth floor.

Following the sound, he stopped in front of a secluded guest room door, from which a series of abrupt cries were continuously emanating.

The cries were filled with restraint—it was Heize Lin, no doubt about it!

With Heize Lin here, Qingshui Cangjie must also be present, yet Yang Xiao didn’t hear Qingshui Cangjie’s voice from outside the door.

Considering the opponent had a gun, Yang Xiao simply knocked on the door, loudly inquiring, but received no response. The nearby rooms were also silent.

Meanwhile, Jiu Shan Sha Yue and her group arrived as well, and without hesitating, everyone took turns ramming the door. But this time, the feedback felt distinctly different.

"They’ve moved something to block the door!" Jiu Shan Sha Yue confirmed.

"These damn bastards!" Yang Xiao knew in his heart, these two didn’t leave themselves any escape route. They were convinced that the Ghost Dream posed no threat to them; what they truly feared were their teammates.

Qingshui Cangjie was too cautious, afraid that Yang Xiao and the others would become desperate and target his body, which was caught in the Ghost Dream.

"Keep ramming, break the door down!" Yang Xiao ordered. Sato Shouta gritted his teeth, taking turns with Yang Xiao to ram the door, finally managing to create a small gap.

Jiu Shan Sha Yue rushed downstairs, fetched a crowbar-like tool from the maintenance room opposite the seventh floor’s service room, and inserted it into the gap to pry it wider.

Finally, they managed to open a slightly wider gap in the door. Strangely, it was pitch black inside, with no lights on.

Such a gap was too small for an adult but might barely fit a child. Unfortunately, the space beyond was blocked, and they could extend it no further.

To fully dismantle the door would require more time, and clearly, Qingshui Cangjie and Heize Lin couldn’t hold out that long.

Although the fate of these two was essentially sealed for the night, to prevent any unexpected variables, they needed to enter the room while the Ghost Dream was underway to reach their side.

In the worst-case scenario, if they sensed the opponents indeed had a chance to break free, then they would have to resort to extreme measures, possibly even killing them.

Letting them go would surely bring endless trouble; this was something Jiushan Cangxuan had explicitly instructed before coming.

Better the mission fails with everyone perishing, than allowing the deceased to return to the real world.

Yang Xiao continued to kick the door forcefully, striving for a last chance. But then, under the shocked gazes of everyone, Jiu Shan Sha Yue nimbly dislocated several of her joints and slithered inside through the gap like a boneless snake.

A few seconds later, a "click" sounded from inside, and Yang Xiao’s face changed instantly; he recognized it was the sound of a shotgun being cocked.

"Miss Xin Yuan, were you in such a hurry to enter just to take us down?!" Heize Lin’s roar followed.

Yang Xiao finally realized what had gone wrong—these two guys were never caught in the Ghost Dream. This was a trial run.

"We’ve fallen into a trap..."
