Chapter 1790: Chapter 1026: Sacrificial Pawn

The previous screams were from Takeuchi Tomoya; it was obvious that the child ghost targeted him first.

On the other side, Beiyu Ye was in a situation similar to Tong Han back then, with his eyeballs trembling uncontrollably beneath his eyelids and his chest heaving violently; he was also dragged into the Ghost Dream, though he hadn’t been attacked yet.

But it was only a matter of time; after all, the female ghost’s attack comes quickly, unless the true way out is found.

Moments ago, Beiyu Ye and Takeuchi Tomoya almost simultaneously felt a dizzying spin, then collapsed onto the ground, unconscious.

Meanwhile, as the two slowly regained some consciousness, they found themselves in a completely unfamiliar world, facing a dilapidated little mountain village.

The sky was pitch black, cold rain slapping randomly against their faces, and everything further away was shrouded in a layer of amorphous fog.

Beiyu Ye quickly calmed down, crouched to observe his surroundings and soon confirmed, based on partial memory, that this place was Chao Wei Village.

Except it was Chao Wei Village from a hundred years ago, the fishing village from the female ghost Puchuan Xiaoman’s memories.

The place was deserted, not a single figure in sight, until he heard a human’s voice calling out.

The voice became distorted in the rainy night, but he was sure it was Takeuchi Tomoya’s voice, sounding not too far from him.

Following the sound, he quickly found the mud-covered Takeuchi Tomoya, who had apparently suffered a nasty fall during his panicked escape.

There were no wounds on Takeuchi Tomoya; it seemed the child ghost hadn’t appeared yet — these were important clues.

"Mr. Beiyu, save me, save me!" Takeuchi Tomoya was petrified, face indistinguishable between rain and tears, grabbing Beiyu Ye’s arm like a lifeline at the sight of him.

"Calm down!" Beiyu Ye attempted to soothe him but found it was utterly futile.

A rookie who hasn’t encountered such scenes, lacking psychological resilience, until Beiyu Ye punched Takeuchi Tomoya, which finally quieted him down.

Beiyu Ye dragged him from the mud, shook his shoulders firmly, "Shut up and listen to me. Do you want to live or die?!"

"I want to live, Mr. Beiyu, I want to live! My family is waiting for me to go home!" Takeuchi Tomoya seemed obsessed with the word "live," becoming excited.

"Good, if you want to live, listen to me. Do you see this path? You run along it, don’t change direction, run as fast as you can, and remember one thing: no matter what happens, don’t look back and don’t change direction, understand?" Beiyu Ye asked.

"I understand, I understand!" Takeuchi Tomoya turned to ask, "Then...what about you?"

"I have things to do, you save your life first, I will break the situation!" Beiyu Ye promised, "I will find you, I promised we would live or die together!"

"Okay, okay, I’ll be waiting for you, waiting for you, Mr. Beiyu!" Takeuchi Tomoya, infected by Beiyu Ye’s spirit, also believed that with Beiyu Ye around, it wasn’t necessarily a dead-end; this was a formidable guy.

"Da da da..."

A sound of footsteps came from a nearby dark alley, moving fast, splashing countless droplets as it stepped through the muddy water.

"Run! Quickly run!" Knowing the child ghost had arrived, Beiyu Ye pushed Takeuchi Tomoya hard, shouting at him.

Takeuchi Tomoya, naturally hearing the splashing sound, hesitated no longer, turned and ran in the direction Beiyu Ye had advised, moving swiftly, not daring to look back.

On one hand, he trusted Beiyu Ye’s judgment; on the other hand, he feared seeing something terrifying, afraid it would paralyze his legs making him unable to run anymore.

Takeuchi Tomoya’s escape path was one Beiyu Ye had designed early on, leading directly away from the coast.

Earlier in the day, Beiyu Ye sketched out the village roads. Though the village layout had changed, he could still roughly determine directions based on some markers.

And indeed, as he expected, as Takeuchi Tomoya ran the opposite direction, the child ghost immediately chased after him, within Beiyu Ye’s limited vision, stabbed Takeuchi Tomoya’s behind fiercely with a compass while he was running.

Takeuchi Tomoya screamed in pain, instantly sped up, wishing for eight legs, but the child ghost was closer, continuously harming him, hoping to "persuade" him to change course, onto the right path.

Knowing Takeuchi Tomoya couldn’t hold on much longer, Beiyu Ye also began to move, running toward the opposite direction, aiming for the coast.

Due to the rain, the road was slippery and muddy, coupled with limited visibility, Beiyu Ye had to stop for direction correction every certain distance.

The roads in the village didn’t run straight; the buildings were disorderly, sometimes a house or a fence popped out from nowhere blocking the way, forcing him to detour and continue running.

This wasted a lot of his time and energy, and gradually, the rain became fiercer, he also heard footsteps coming from behind.

The child ghost was catching up, Beiyu Ye’s heart tensed, realizing this meant the female ghost had targeted Takeuchi Tomoya, and his life was at its end.

No, no, Takeuchi Tomoya was already dead, there were only four living people on this mission.

It was because of them that they came here, capable of breaking the nightmare, releasing these trapped pitiful souls, so in a way, saying he saved Takeuchi Tomoya wasn’t wrong; thinking so relieved Beiyu Ye a lot.
