Chapter 1756: Chapter 1009: Human Pillar
Yang Xiao wasn’t the first to arrive at the scene. When he brought Sato Shouta over, several people were already there. Tong Han was guarding outside the room, while Qingshui Cangjie was hastily arriving with Nishimura Yuna not far away.
The incident was on the 5th floor, and since Yang Xiao’s and Qingshui Cangjie’s groups lived on the 7th and 3rd floors respectively, it’s understandable for them to arrive a bit late because of the distance.
Cries from inside the room came one after another, but the frequency wasn’t very urgent for the time being. Based on last night’s experience, Yamada Kengohei should have a few minutes left to live.
"Break the door open!" Qingshui Cangjie ordered and took the lead.
There were four men present at the moment, and they took turns ramming the door. It must be said that Yamada Kengohei had a knack for choosing rooms, for this door was exceptionally sturdy. After trying dozens of times, they finally broke it open.
However, Yang Xiao could clearly see that this wasn’t entirely the door’s fault but rather everyone holding selfish intentions, none willing to be the last hero to break through the door.
As expected, the one with the thinnest stature, Sato Shouta, ultimately managed to break open the door. Before he could catch his breath, he was forcefully shoved from behind and stumbled into the room.
The person who pushed him was naturally Hasegawa Hideji, and a second later, a scream from Sato Shouta echoed from inside the room.
Yang Xiao and the others cautiously entered the room, while Tong Han reminded Nishimura Yuna and Takagi Sayo to stay outside, as the limited space inside the room could put them in a passive situation if anything unexpected happened.
Entering the bedroom, Sato Shouta sat paralyzed on the ground, looking terrified, clearly not yet recovered from the shock earlier. Meanwhile, Yamada Kengohei lay sideways on the bed, eyes closed, without a blanket or shoes, his body stained red with fresh blood.
He wasn’t dead yet, still screaming occasionally, as if trapped in a nightmare, but his body barely moved, and the noise from the door-breaking did not wake him.
"Mr. Yamada! Mr. Yamada!" Yang Xiao stepped forward, trying to awaken Yamada Kengohei, but it was useless until he reached out and lifted his clothes.
In the next moment, Yang Xiao quickly retreated, while Qingshui Cangjie, Hasegawa Hideji, and the others were likewise shocked, nearly turning back to flee.
On Yamada Kengohei’s back, new blood marks continued to appear, as if being carefully carved out, as though an invisible blunt knife was slicing into his flesh.
With each slash by the knife, Yamada Kengohei let out a scream.
Yang Xiao and the others stared fearfully at Yamada Kengohei’s vicinity, but there was clearly nothing there—it was empty. Yet the reality told them that somewhere close to him, a ghost was lurking, mercilessly torturing Yamada Kengohei right before their eyes.
It was the first time Yang Xiao encountered something like this, the pressure of being close to a ghost nearly suffocating him, and it wasn’t just him; the others felt the same.
If not for the unfavorable position, someone would have fled long ago—losing Yamada Kengohei meant little, but they couldn’t afford to be ensnared themselves.
Moreover, there was another critical point. They were all veteran players, anxious about losing control of the situation, uncertain if escaping might draw the ghost’s attention hence shifting focus.
Seizing the right moment, Qingshui Cangjie flung his coat towards the bed and quickly retreated, yet the coat simply fell to the ground as if it touched nothing.
Yang Xiao understood his intention; he was testing whether something invisible existed by the bed, but clearly, he failed, although it was an exceptionally bold attempt.
"Sato Shouta, run, the ghost is targeting you!" Hasegawa Hideji urgently urged, needing a pathfinder.
At these words, Sato Shouta flinched, but Yang Xiao’s words steadied him, "Don’t move! Stay where you are!"
Sato Shouta, though inexperienced, wasn’t dumb; he immediately realized Hasegawa Hideji intended to use him as a scapegoat, pushed in by this bastard two minutes ago.
Sato Shouta admitted to being quite timid in life, but a rabbit cornered can still bite. If he were to die, he’d certainly make sure Hasegawa Hideji paid for it, that dog bastard was too wicked.
In his anger, Sato Shouta grabbed the tissue box beside him and hurled it fiercely at Hasegawa Hideji, catching him off guard as he had underestimated Sato Shouta’s ability to retaliate.
The strike didn’t hurt, nor caused injuries, but the landing sound broke the room’s balance, leaving everyone unsure of what followed. Hasegawa Hideji dared not move, his face pale.
"Don’t move!" Yang Xiao growled; even he hadn’t expected Sato Shouta to fight back so fiercely.
The room fell into dead silence, save for breathing sounds. Strangely, no new injuries appeared on Yamada Kengohei’s body, his rapid breathing resembling a dying struggle.
This eerie calm persisted for at least half a minute, just as they speculated the danger might have passed, Yamada Kengohei suddenly screamed again like a zombie resurrected, this time the sound was piercingly sharp.
"Ah! Aaah!!" Yamada Kengohei’s eyes were tightly shut, his body trembling violently as though enduring immense pain, yet weirdly, no new scars appeared on him.
There was no doubt, Yamada Kengohei was currently being harmed, and the pain surpassed even the previous torment.
