Chapter 1654: Chapter 961: Chen Nang (Part 2)

"Brother Zheng, I’m here." Yang Xiao once again saw Captain Zheng in the same room.

"Hahaha, Younger Brother Yang, we were just waiting for you. We’ve completed all the transfer procedures. Just sign here at the top, and it’s done." Captain Zheng pushed the paper and pen toward Yang Xiao.

Yang Xiao carefully reviewed the contents of the paper to ensure there were no issues before signing. This matter was of great importance, not only concerning him alone, but also implicating the Jiangbei Province Office behind him.

Yang Xiao handed the signed paper to Captain Zheng. "Brother Zheng, I also need a favor. I need a venue to test the capabilities of this Chen Nang."

"No problem. Consider it done." Captain Zheng put the paper away and readily agreed.

After some waiting, Yang Xiao was soon taken to a relatively open venue, where he saw Chen Nang again.

Around Chen Nang, there were several guards, all wearing those silver special protective suits and helmets, obviously guarding against Chen Nang’s abilities.

Upon seeing Yang Xiao, Chen Nang’s eyes lit up instantly. He stood up from his chair, "Chu Xi! Chu Xi, you’ve finally come!"

He excitedly wanted to approach Yang Xiao but couldn’t, as the silver foot shackles fixed him in place. He could only move within the length allowed by the silver metal chain.

Originally, the prison wouldn’t have placed handcuffs and foot shackles on Chen Nang, but moving him out of residence required them.

Captain Zheng, in charge, was a cautious person. With Chen Nang being a hot potato about to be tossed out, he didn’t want any accidents at the last moment.

"Chen Nang, do you remember what I said last time?" Yang Xiao asked directly.

"You promised to take me out and let me work for you for three years. After three years, you would give me back my freedom!" Chen Nang blurted out.

Yang Xiao slowly shook his head, his tone unfamiliar and cold, "I don’t like your phrasing. I didn’t promise anything. I merely said I’m willing to give you a chance. If you seize this opportunity, you’ll come with me. If not, you’ll return to prison. Understand?"

"Understood!" Chen Nang nodded repeatedly, his years of imprisonment nearly driving him insane. "You’re the boss. Once I’m out, I’ll listen to everything you say. Brother Chu, please... help a brother out!"

"You performed well in the previous task. I’m not someone who neglects past bonds. Otherwise, you wouldn’t even have the chance to see me today." Yang Xiao stepped forward and handed him a silver briefcase. "There’s a good item inside. Someone entrusted me to give it to you."

"For me?" Chen Nang was taken aback. He knew exactly what was inside.

"If you want to get out, don’t ask too many questions. Next, follow my instructions, try to control this item, once stabilized we’ll have a confrontation so I can see what you’re capable of. If you pass, you can leave. If not, congratulations, back to prison you go." Yang Xiao said expressionlessly.

"Understood!" Chen Nang obediently lowered his head to look at his restraining handcuffs and anklet, showing a troubled expression.

"Someone, release his handcuffs and anklet!" Yang Xiao raised his head and shouted toward the direction of the surveillance camera.

In less than ten seconds, the door behind opened, and a staff member wearing isolation clothing ran over, handed a bunch of keys to Yang Xiao, then quickly left, saying nothing unnecessary.

Upon receiving the keys, Chen Nang quickly unlocked his own handcuffs and foot shackles, then picked up the briefcase, opened it, and found not a weapon inside but a crumpled short coat, black in color.

"What kind of magic artifact is this?" Chen Nang lifted his head in puzzlement to look at Yang Xiao.

"Put it on and try it out." Yang Xiao clasped his hands behind his back, adopting a mysterious demeanor, though he knew nothing either.

Chen Nang didn’t dare waste time, worried that if he angered Yang Xiao, the latter would walk away, and he’d spend the rest of his life in this underground prison.

He regarded Yang Xiao as his lifeline.

Quickly, Chen Nang donned the short coat, closed his eyes, sat cross-legged on the ground, activating his spiritual power to attempt controlling the item.

Yang Xiao furtively produced the Human Bone Staff from behind his back, trying to sense Chen Nang’s spiritual power fluctuations, probing his depth. 𝑓𝑟ℯ𝘦𝓌𝘦𝘣𝑛𝑜𝓋𝑒𝓁.𝑐ℴ𝓂

Within about ten minutes, Chen Nang opened his eyes, stood up, and stretched. He had already mastered the magic artifact.

Though clothes-type magic artifacts are generally easier to control and pose less danger, mastering it so quickly was unexpected for Yang Xiao.

Based on the feedback from the Human Bone Staff, Chen Nang’s spiritual power fluctuations were very stable, proving his strong capability in controlling spiritual power. For now, Yang Xiao was very satisfied with this future subordinate.

"What abilities does this item have?" Yang Xiao displayed a mysterious smile, as if he’d seen through everything.

"I plan to try it, but I’d like to mention it to Brother Chu first to avoid misunderstandings." Chen Nang was more obedient than during the task.

"Very well, you may begin." Yang Xiao was pleased with Chen Nang’s compliance.

The next moment, with the activation of spiritual power, Chen Nang’s figure instantly vanished, but in front of the Human Bone Staff, Yang Xiao could still confirm Chen Nang’s location.

"Invisibility, eh?" Yang Xiao felt somewhat disappointed inwardly, thinking this ability was decent but unworthy of Chief Zhou’s status.

However, he soon realized something was amiss. The Human Bone Staff’s sensing became increasingly weak, from initial clarity to now only a vague perception, allowing him to only roughly judge the opponent’s position.

Bear in mind, this space wasn’t very large. If the space were bigger, Yang Xiao suspected he might lose the target completely.

"Nothing impressive, come out." Without turning his head, Yang Xiao randomly stretched out a hand, pointing to his right side. The next moment, Chen Nang’s figure appeared nearly pasted against the wall.

"You... can see me?" Chen Nang was clearly surprised but hesitated to show it too openly, his expression was quite odd.

"It’s a pretty good item, Chen Nang. You should remember the benefactor of this item, but alas you met me. All changes are in vain, the beatings of thirteen years in purgatory cannot be fathomed by someone like you." Yang Xiao scanned Chen Nang with an eye full of stories, posturing as if he had lost touch with the world.

However, Chen Nang dared not disbelieve, especially since this person had found him with just one glance.

In Chen Nang’s imagination, Yang Xiao definitely had intriguing stories, and formidable methods, given his age and such authority within the Patrol Defense Office, releasing people with just a word was no joke.

"Brother Chu’s methods are formidable, I am impressed!" Chen Nang praised.

"Could you please pass my regards to the benefactor who provided this treasure, Brother Chu? This item is really nice. Though it can’t fool Brother Chu’s discerning eyes, it shouldn’t be difficult to avoid angels of the same level. Furthermore, I sensed it seems to have effects that isolate against spiritual attacks." Chen Nang looked down, inspecting the black short coat he wore, fully satisfied. He just needed something like this protective magical artifact.

Yang Xiao secretly envied inside, thinking this item could easily deceive not only angels of the same level, but without a targeted artifact, even the peak of Ghost Level might not detect it. Chief Zhou was truly generous.

Honestly speaking, Yang Xiao had his eye on the item as well, but with the Hundred Demons Coffin Clothes on his person, stealing it would be pointless; he couldn’t use it.

"How long can you hide using this?" Yang Xiao asked.

"Half an hour, absolutely." Chen Nang responded after a brief sensing.

"Very well, you have ten minutes to prepare, show me your skills." Yang Xiao had been waiting for this moment, eagerly anticipating.

"I won’t disappoint you." Chen Nang’s lips curled into a strange smile; while aware of Yang Xiao’s strength, he was equally confident in his own.

But the next second, Yang Xiao lifted his hand and pointed at him, leisurely saying, "I don’t like your smile; in my team, only I can smile like that."

Immediately, Chen Nang stopped smiling, tightened his face, returning to normal.
