Chapter 1449: Chapter 895: Alarm_3
As the female ghost leaped out of the window, the eerie sensation that had been haunting Yang Xiao completely vanished. He survived, successfully escaping the female ghost’s pursuit.
However, the surrounding environment remained unchanged, indicating that the female ghost was not the Source Ghost but merely one of the many Chang Ghosts, albeit a particularly troublesome one.
Yang Xiao felt a bit regretful that he couldn’t retrieve the piece of paper from the ghost pocket of the female ghost. He instinctively felt that it might contain important information, perhaps even a will of some sort.
Before Yang Xiao could catch his breath, he heard a dull scraping sound coming from the hallway outside. The sound approached from the other side, drawing nearer.
After making a quick calculation, Yang Xiao realized that if he went out now, he could likely run into that entity. The current strategy was to take a gamble and stay put, waiting for it to leave.
He quickly moved, treading softly to the glass door. First, he closed the door gently, then locked it, and stood behind it, peeking through a gap only half a finger wide to look outside.
Amid the blur, Yang Xiao saw the source of the sound. It turned out to be... a pair of legs!
That’s right, no upper body was visible, just a pair of legs, slightly obscured by the dense smoke. The legs did not walk step by step but scraped against the floor, emitting a dull friction sound.
At the same time, Yang Xiao perked up his ears and heard a faint murmuring sound as if someone were muttering something in a low voice, but he couldn’t make it out clearly.
They were a man’s legs, dressed in slacks and black leather shoes. Although only half a body was present, the pressure it brought to Yang Xiao was no less than that of the female ghost in white-collar attire. As the ghost legs got closer, Yang Xiao retracted his gaze, leaned his back against the glass door, and held his breath.
He no longer had the luxury of creating new troubles; if blocked in the office, he would certainly meet his death.
The white-collar female ghost was merely temporarily dormant, not dead. Who knew when it might climb back up the rope? By then, with two ghosts attacking from within and without, it would be his turn to jump out the window.
"Screech——"
"Screech——"
The friction sound outside the door grew louder, and Yang Xiao’s heart leaped to his throat. Fortunately, the creature eventually scraped away, without pausing outside the door.
Taking a deep breath, Yang Xiao felt a strong sensation of escaping death. This ghost was also terrifying, and more concerning was the fact that it headed toward the other side of the hallway, where Zhou Mingxiao was, and which also housed the offices of Chen’s Strange Film Industry.
Yang Xiao once again placed his eyes on the door gap, adjusted the angle, and peered in the direction of the sound. What he saw sent a chill down his spine.
It was not just a pair of legs but a complete ’person’, albeit one whose body was broken at the waist, the upper half hanging back as the legs scraped forward.
The two arms twisted backward, tangled together, while the ghost head swayed side to side like in a seizure, its pair of scarlet Ghost Eyes glaring.
The ghost eyes emitted a glow through the smoke, and even at this distance, with a glass door separating them, Yang Xiao felt an imminent sense of being "seen," which scared him into immediately retracting his gaze, his heart racing wildly.
"Oh no..." was Yang Xiao’s instinctive reaction. The direction the Waist-breaking Ghost was headed was the office area of Chen’s Strange Film Industry, meaning it would eventually encounter Zhou Mingxiao.
Based on Yang Xiao’s judgment of Zhou Mingxiao, it would be difficult for him to escape this disaster.
It’s not that Zhou Mingxiao lacked skill, but that this creature was utterly daunting and it was impossible to tell from afar what it was. Only upon getting close would one realize the true danger of this ghost.
Once approached, if seen by the pair of blood-red eyes hidden at its back, it would be too late.
More troublesome was that it was now too late for Yang Xiao to notify Zhou Mingxiao. After all, the ghost was now between them. Moreover, taking any rash action himself would entail substantial risk, as he was not in optimal condition, making it a lose-lose situation.
Contemplating at length, Yang Xiao devised a solution: he decided to retreat for now, regroup with Wu Zhuo, and then contact a teammate with a mobile phone through a call and have them send Zhou Mingxiao a text message as a warning. Whether he believed it or not would be his problem, as things couldn’t get worse anyway.
Waiting until the haunting friction sound had completely faded away, Yang Xiao immediately took action, dodging the lingering dense smoke in the hallway, lowering his body, and moving swiftly forward.
He didn’t encounter any unexpected incidents on the way, yet the appearance of these two ghosts still left Yang Xiao with some thoughts.
Generally, ghosts appear as they did at the time of death, indicating that neither the female ghost in the office nor the recently-sighted Waist-breaking Ghost was burnt to death, nor did they die from inhaling excessive smoke toxins. They had died before then.
Furthermore, the way these two ghosts died reminded Yang Xiao of Chen Moting: the male ghost had twisted limbs, arms bent like pretzels, and a broken waist, while the female ghost also had a broken neck and spine, her arms unnaturally drooping. There seemed to be similarities in their deaths.
Yang Xiao boldly speculated that those who died with fractured bones were killed by the Source Ghost, the ghost that appeared during the day and killed Chen Moting.
Even more horrifying was that until now, no one had seen the true appearance of the Source Ghost, nor had they found any leads related to it.
Though it’s perhaps not entirely accurate to say, Chen Moting must have seen it, but she could no longer speak about it.
