Chapter 1424: Chapter 889: Temptation
Originally, Su Xiaomin thought that Chen Moting was taking her away from here, leaving this floor. But unexpectedly, Chen was leading her deeper into the office, towards the area that had not been fully explored yet.
Su Xiaomin was terribly scared inside but dared not make a sound. Chen Moting’s previous actions completely intimidated her. She could feel the other’s harsh words were no joke. If she offended her, it could really be deadly.
Led by Chen Moting, the two passed through the dimly lit corridor. They paused when passing the pantry, from where the sound of running water emanated earlier.
The pantry door was slightly ajar. Inside was pitch dark, and nobody knew if something was hiding in the shadows. At this moment, Su Xiaomin’s heart was gripped by tension and fear.
With a crisp sound, Chen Moting decisively flipped a switch on the wall. The next second, the light in the pantry flickered twice quickly and then came on.
The frosted glass door left no eerie shadows; there should be no "people" inside.
Gripping a pen with her right hand, Chen Moting used her left hand to push the door open forcefully. This was a relatively cramped pantry with a small table and four non-backed chairs arranged nearby. On the counter with the sink were some snacks and packets of coffee coconut milk beverages.
But none of this mattered. As her gaze swept over the faucet toward the back, even the steady Chen Moting inhaled sharply in shock.
She cautiously entered the pantry after confirming it was safe, and indeed, she wasn’t mistaken; a deep black handprint was left on the faucet handle.
Nearby the handprint were remnants of scorched dark fragments and some ashes.
Lightly wrinkling her nose, Chen Moting could still smell the burnt stench of scorched protein.
Meanwhile, a terrifying scene flashed in Chen Moting’s mind: not long ago, a horrific presence, wholly charred, had mysteriously appeared here, turning on the faucet with the sound of rushing water.
"Let’s go, leave here." Chen Moting did not hesitate any longer and turned around to exit the pantry.
There had indeed been Ghosts haunting this place, creating much insecurity. Previously she chose to leave from the hiding spot in the office, stemming from her past experience.
It was her first task, leaving a deep impression on her. The Ghost back then had a very peculiar ability: within a certain space, as long as the hidden person did not move, they would be found within three attempts at most.
This was an experience summed up with blood. It might not always work, but prudence was necessary.
Chen Moting carefully advanced along the corridor while watching the rooms on both sides. She needed to find the next hiding spot quickly.
After all, at the end of the corridor was the vast, pitch-black office hall, which was yet unexplored and clearly unsuitable.
The most ideal hiding place would be a room with a light, hopefully spacious enough to accommodate two hiding spots, so they could hide separately.
Chen Moting had a feeling tonight’s attack would not be the last. The real crisis had yet to begin; they must prepare.
Soon, the two approached a tightly closed glass door, behind which the frosted glass was engulfed in darkness.
This door differed somewhat from the previous ones; the bronze-curved doorknob had a thin Red String tied around it.
It was an elastic hair band.
Seeing this, Su Xiaomin explained in a low voice that this was the room their team had mentioned before. She saw through the frosted glass wall that there were dozens of dead inside.
Of course, after a secondary confirmation, her eyes had deceived her; those were clothing mannequins.
"You were the first to see those dead people?" Chen Moting, who had been silent, suddenly asked.
"Not dead people, but clothing mannequins; we’ve confirmed that," Su Xiaomin replied softly.
"I’m asking if you were the first to see those things?" Chen Moting’s tone was slightly impatient.
Su Xiaomin instinctively shrank her head, nodding her chin, "Yes... it was me."
Suddenly, Chen Moting seemed to understand something, exhaling slowly. Su Xiaomin discovered the clothing mannequins, while she found the clothing designs in the computer—both had discovered "clues," which proved why they were chosen to stay for the night watch.
"So that’s it." Chen Moting understood; she knew what to do next time.
Su Xiaomin was puzzled and couldn’t help but ask, "What are you talking about?"
"None of your business," Chen Moting was not yet ready to share this information with Su Xiaomin.
However, she hadn’t been here before, nor was she familiar with the clothing mannequins mentioned in the information. Tonight was filled with dangers. She must eliminate these uncontrollable factors one by one.
Seeing Su Xiaomin’s astonished expression, Chen Moting carelessly licked the frosted glass, using saliva to wet an area. Then she hunched over, taking out a small flashlight, pressing it against the wet glass, illuminating it and peering through.
The flashlight was dim, only casting blurry shadows at the edge of the darkness. But it was enough to prove these clothing mannequins were indeed real.
But in the next second, Su Xiaomin, who was also peering in from behind, froze briefly, then her expression changed instantly, "No, this... this isn’t right!"
"What’s wrong?" questioned Chen Moting.
"There used to be dozens of clothing mannequins inside, but now... now there’s only a few left."
