Chapter 1417: Chapter 886: Fire Disaster

Seeing Wu Zhuo disagree, Zhou Hai’s face turned bitter, and his heart instantly sank. He also considered going to Chen Nang, but he thought Chen Nang wouldn’t agree, and he was also afraid of his identity.

Unexpectedly, just as Zhou Hai was about to turn and slink back, someone called out to him.

"Zhou Hai."

It was a very clear male voice, coming from Chen Nang, who had barely spoken.

Zhou Hai turned his head in surprise, only to see Chen Nang looking at him with a faint smile on his face, "If you really have nowhere to go, you can come to my place."

"Okay, okay!" The surprise came too suddenly, and Zhou Hai nodded repeatedly after a brief moment of astonishment, "Thank you, thank you, Chen Nang!"

"Before you make your decision, there’s something you need to understand. Coming to my place might be more dangerous than staying alone, which might break the rules," Chen Nang said calmly.

Most of the experienced players present understood what Chen Nang meant and agreed. After all, based on past experiences, the keys each man carries are for them to move in.

Having a female partner is naturally best, and if not, one must muster the courage to stay alone.

If you don’t stay, there’s a chance of triggering some unpredictable consequences, ranging from missing some clues to having a ghost come directly to the door, all of which could happen. 𝐟𝕣𝗲𝕖𝕨𝗲𝐛𝗻𝗼𝐯𝗲𝚕.𝗰𝚘𝐦

Even though Chen Nang had clearly explained the pros and cons, Zhou Hai still chose to give up his room and stay with Chen Nang, and Chen Nang also agreed.

This was indeed something that baffled Yang Xiao and the others, because from their perspective, Yang Xiao would never agree. Agreeing to let Zhou Hai move in meant putting oneself in unknown danger.

Should a ghost indeed come knocking tonight, it would also be difficult for Chen Nang, who shared the room with Zhou Hai, to escape.

However, despite the risks, no one stood up to stop them. In this task, death is inevitable, and everyone wanted to see if staying out of one’s designated room at night would result in something terrifying.

But personally undertaking such a risky experiment was inadvisable. Now that there was this Evil Cultivator Chen Nang and the newcomer Zhou Hai willing to try, it was just perfect.

Thus, the night’s team arrangements concluded, adding a group of Chen Nang and Zhou Hai, leaving only Yellow Hair Wu Zhuo alone.

Finding a place to stay with only a key is difficult, but luckily, the end of each key had white tape with the corresponding district and building number written on it.

Yang Xiao’s key was for Happiness District, Building 5, Unit 1, Room 402, which would be the place where he and Jiang Qingluan stayed that night.

Everyone’s addresses differed, with no two people in the same district, so they agreed to meet at 8 a.m. the next day and then parted ways.

Yang Xiao walked a distance and found a grocery store at the street corner.

The shop owner was just about to close, pulling the roller shutter door down with effort. The old door was already heavily rusted, and its edges made a piercing sound as they scraped against each other.

The shop owner seemed like an honest old man, severely balding, with the shiny top of his head gleaming under the streetlight. He wore a white tank top, army green shorts, and a pair of flip-flops.

The back of his tank top was printed with the name of a mechanical factory, but because it had been washed too many times, the words had faded severely and were barely recognizable.

"Sir, please wait a moment!" Yang Xiao ran up quickly to stop the old man.

"Young man, are you here to buy something?" The old man put down his work and looked at Yang Xiao and Jiang Qingluan, who was catching up behind him.

"No, just some inquiries. Do you know why that building doesn’t light up at night?" Yang Xiao pointed to the pitch-black building behind them, which only had a small lit area.

"Not buying anything? Then I don’t know," the old man shook his head, not even glancing at Yang Xiao, and continued pulling down the shutter door to go home and sleep.

"We’ll buy. Sir, we’re just hungry and plan to buy some things to take back and eat." Jiang Qingluan pulled a ten-yuan note from his pocket.

The moment he saw the money, a sudden burst of energy seemed to fill the old man as he single-handedly lifted the already half-closed shutter door. "Come in, please, we have the most comprehensive selection here, everything for sale, good stuff at fair prices."

Soon, Yang Xiao and Jiang Qingluan chose some items, mostly food and several large bottles of mineral water.

Yang Xiao was surprised to find smoked chicken for sale in the small shop and pestered Jiang Qingluan to buy him one, as he had no money and Jiang Qingluan managed the funds.

The whole heap of goods cost 28 yuan and 70 cents. Jiang Qingluan handed over exactly 30 yuan, in three ten-yuan bills.

While Yang Xiao was waiting for his change, the shop owner, it turned out, didn’t intend to reach into the drawer for change. Instead, he handed Yang Xiao a small box of contraceptives from a box nearby.

"We... we don’t need this," Yang Xiao didn’t need it and wanted money.

The owner disapprovingly clicked his tongue and gave him a "you’re missing the point" look.

Yang Xiao didn’t dwell on this issue, as his primary goal was to find out if there’d been any disasters or violent cases related to that building in the past.

The shop owner took off his reading glasses, turned his head towards the building, nodded after a moment, and said, "You’re talking about Rongjin Building."

"Yes, there. It’s so strange; the lights are off at night, and no one works night shifts. Do you know why?" Yang Xiao asked.

"There was an incident there before, a fire broke out, killing many people. After that, weird things started happening frequently. We locals avoid working in that building, saying it’s cursed," the owner sighed.
